Fortunately, that's just your opinion.

Oh golly you're so on the ball here.

There's nothing hidden about it: stop making bathrooms and start spending those digital resources on better cockpits. Stop wasting (v)ram and c/gpu cycles on things that only xboxers and tr0lls whine about and then 100% ignore.

Booo. Such conflation, much hobbyist. I said nothing about not experimenting and pushing boundaries, now did I. A bathroom model is hardly boundary-pushing. Nor is an airport lobby.

Think? I'm pretty sure you know. Also certain that you weren't the first to discover those art assets. That you somehow think you were, is the problem. Not everyone has the time to roam around discovering 100% of the sim's offerings.

Looks real! I made the correct choice. Xplane it is!

Sure but where are the limits and priorities? It's the xbox and tr0ll crowds that drive the need for these higher fidelity terminal and cabin models. What a waste of time and developer effort. Though

LR is exploring solutions, like TAA for example

TAA isn't going to solve it, it doesn't solve it in MSFS ... but they have a rather odd "TAA" setting that switches to SSAA above 100 (according to the information cue next to the setting).  SSAA looks much better.  I really would rather get the option back to use SSAA and suffer the performance hit or wait for more powerful GPU like AMD RNA 5.

SSAA is not restricted to forward or deferred rendering, it's just that one gets a performance hit (most noticeable at night with geometric lighting and not baked lighting).

Going 4K or 5K or now 6K is fine, but one is just trading performance with end result being similar.

Agreed - I think ultimately these problems will be attacked from multiple sides, people getting better hardware, X-Plane becoming more performant (we have seen a first step with 12.4) and Laminar coming up with better AA solutions.

I am using 4K with a 9950X3D and a 5070 and aliasing or performance is not a problem for me - however everyone has a different sensitivity to aliasing artifacts and this is in no way a suggestion that "everything is fine as it is". 🙂

Got any tips?

And why is xOrganizer and xToolbox separate tools when they really should be a single product?

But I must admit, I haven’t made time to read all 59 pages of xOrganizer manual … I’m sure it’s detailed and excellent, but 59 pages for scenery ordering (that alone should be obvious flag of opportunity to improve XP for LR)?

EDIT: oh and 33 pages for xToolbox. 😉

Sure - what kind of tips? The key for me was fixing a specific area centered around a specific airport, and using the profiles to work through the layering order.

In re the manual: no I didn't study the entire thing, but I did review it. In general, I find that studying the ToC and 1st page of each chapter does absolute wonders for breaking in to software.

Yeah, not sure why those 2 titles are different software, but the guy must have a reason. I'll tell ya, tho - they're probably the best $30 total I've ever spent on XP. Should've bought them sooner!

LMK if there's anything specific I can look into for you and I'll be happy to help!

How do you think he found out? 🙂

Well - I mean to US, not the devs 😉

That's a "you" problem then. X-Plane has lots of nifty little details or jokes only waiting to be discovered.

I think somewhere in the X-Plane community, there is an old screenshot of mine that shows nothing but an urban park with its trees, benches, lanterns and waste baskets, all courtesy of the XP12 default scenery. Which I discovered by idly messing about with the free camera. While I would not hold up as a modern city sim or GTA clone, it was nothing short of impressive for a flight simulator.

I'll have to talk to my boss about giving me plenty of extra paid time to fart around in free camera mode in a flight simulator. Thanks!

Curious - do you get that odd "shimmer" effect in the cockpit around the 3D objects on the instrument panel? It's like "silver lining" on the edges of almost everything...

Some addons have it bad enough that i don't want to fly them, but some have it barely at all (e.g., the JF/Thranda BAe 146).

Just curious given your high specs, etc., or if you happen to know the cause?

I get that odd shimmer in cockpit with some add ons, some more, some less shimmer effect in 4k. I think that is related to what is called "motion vectors" and to be fixed who knows when. I think Ben said it will be fixed but no estimates yet.

for my area, SFDG ends up giving far more believable buildings!

still using GF, and still using ortho. Great combo 🤙

If you're familiar with the various scenery libraries, you can bring custom objects from them into Simheaven X-World to generate alternative buildings for the area where you fly by modifying the library.txt in layer 6. Don't ask me how because it's been too long and it took me a few days to get the hang anyway, but works fine where I fly in North America. In log.txt you'll undoubtedly get notices about "bad gamma" but the sim ignores them and carries on and there's never a problem. Hopefully the next gen scenery won't remove the ability to use these old libraries because I've got too much time invested populating custom airports with them and they're coordinated with SH buildings so things are homogeneous, but I'm making sure to save all iterations of XP and those libraries just in case.

I've seen that same issue around AI aircraft ... I believe this is an AA issue related to sharpening and/or bloom (but could be other things) ... errors as a result of edge contrast determination.

WOW - that's interesting enough that I will probably give it a try at some point! Thanks for the specific pointer - I'll start there 🙂

Meanwhile, I'm genuinely pleased with the result of using the "ancient" SFDG in XP. I hadn't used it in literally years and since XP 11.

Get a cockpit, you two.

7950X3D + 7900 XT + 64 GB + Linux | 4800H + RTX2060 + 32 GB + Linux
My add-ons from my FS9/FSX days

All manner of "you problem" in that one. But hey, at least you're taking a break from Blender by doing something other than....Blender.
