January 8Jan 8 For those who have purchased it, are you having any issues with activation, radios not working or anything else? I’m reading comments over on their discord (including from FSS that they’re actively working to fix these reported issues). In some cases people are having issues with their -200s after installing the -100. I love the -100 (such a neat looking stubby rocket) and will buy it, but am debating whether to jump in now or wait for a patch. I’m just not sure how widespread these issues are. Such a porky little airplane! I can't wait for the painters to start working on the 727-100. Lots of rare paint jobs especially in Alaska's fleet. I remember this very plane well way back in the early 90's. My dad was in the fish business and would literally charter this whole plane with fresh copper river salmon. When the plane arrived we would go down to SEA and literally walk out to the aircraft on the cargo ramp and check out the payload as it was being off loaded. Back then it was a well worn workhorse. One time on a different trip I was in the airport and spotted this plane taxiing out for takeoff. When it took off all the windows in the airport were shaking and you could hear the rumble. Those were the days! We need more classic airliners in MSFS. I think something is a bit off that we are not seeing more of them. Today I am going on a few errands (real life stuff) and will come back and fly the 727-100 from SEA to PVR. Might be a bit of a struggle with a full load of passengers but we shall see?

Remembrances from before the “Salmon Thirty Salmon” 737…🙂… Yes, without more classic airliners like this 727 (or 737) early variants, the SIM would feel incomplete…
January 8Jan 8 Author On my way to PVR from SEA. A distance of 1800+ NM so it will be a stretch. It has been a while since I flew the 727 so I sort of forgot how it all works. I realized that on the tablet book thing you have to load fuel and passengers separately. I did not do this yesterday during a brief test flight so today it felt a lot heavier. Takeoff run was long and climb out was still slow but not as bad as the 200 version. Fuel burn looks better than the 200 version by about 200 lbs per engine. Should help stretch those legs a bit! Only thing I have noticed that will need fixing is the front nose gear door tends to be ghosting when in exterior view even when they are up. I am sure this is not a difficult fix and interestingly I did not notice it yesterday so maybe its just an anomaly. So far everything is working at it should be. Settled in at FL250 just to burn a bit of fuel off but shortly will climb to FL290. Overall pretty happy with it!
January 8Jan 8 This is almost as much money as a PMDG product. I'm really on the fence with this one, I love the 727. After reading the somewhat mediocre reviews of FSS 727 for 2020 is this plane any better this time around? $100 bucks Canadian is a lot for any plane, I just want to make sure its worth it, I've been let down before. I am hardly a professional reviewer and it might not be state of the art pushing the limits of what can be done in MSFS these days but its fine for what it is. Textures look pretty good. They got the center #2 intake correct. Its more of an oval shape compared to the more round intake on the 200. The non hush kitted engines look really nice (200 models pretty please). It does seem to lack the clam shell style reversers I believe were more common on the 100. I will need to research this to know for sure as I can't exactly remember. It seems to taxi nice but even at a high gross weight it seems to want to move a long pretty good and I had to constantly hit the brakes. Maybe this is how a real 100 is? I heard the 100 was a totally different animal over the 200 as far as performance. Even at higher gross weights it feels a bit over powered. Again maybe the way the 100 is. Its certainly more powerful than the 200 version FSS offers. I noticed at slightly reduced thrust the smoke affect it is pretty intense and cool. Seems to hand fly fairly nice minus the slightly excessive positive trim. Cockpit detail from what I remember on the 200 and 200 Super 27 seems to be lacking slightly. It has been a while since I have fired up the 200 so it may actually be much the same so I will need to check on that. Overall its pretty cool and fits in with the other FSS 727 products. I am sure after a few patches they will resolve what minor issues I have noticed so far. A more professional review will certainly help more than I can. My dad flew the 100’s for UAL. Said it was his favorite airliner because of the power (he was prior-USN, so he cared about that!). IDK about ground speeds and riding the brakes. Someone more knowledgeable will have to weigh in there.

It sounds like there's some significant navigation issues and some people haven't been able to activate? Did it mess up your -200 install as well? Hi Mate, Yes, it's a known issue for quite a few who purchased from Contrail. The radios work, however the freqs won't change when using the pedestal dials. I worked with Tom from FSS on this when it was released and we couldn't fix the issue so they are hard at work trying to get an update out that will fix it. In the meantime you can fit the 750 and use the COM and NAV freq changes there in order to make the changes. Hopefully the update will come out soon however FSS are aware of the issue. Jase
January 8Jan 8 Oh that's great, I actually quite like using the TDS 750 in the -200 aircraft anyway so if that takes care of the biggest issues I'm a happy man. Despite the opprobrium FSS have bought upon themselves with there E jet releases, it must be a different team working on the B727 series because they have fixed and patched quite regularly while also improving the product. The aircraft is not an automated, FMS, follow the magenta line type of aircraft that most people are familiar with today and consequently requires a bit of patience to understand it's old school approach. Things like manually selecting radios on and selecting NAV not GPS when using auto glide slope. I'm not saying there weren't problems with the initial release and indeed the handling was well off with excessive pitching but many of the issues were user related as a result of not reading the documentation that came with the model. Things like the crew manager not working, the EFB (well a clipboard anyway), not working properly, lighting issues, sound issues and texture gaps were all issues that FSS has plugged, fixed and improved. At the wishes of those mostly familiar with newer aircraft means of navigation, FSS have provided options for a range of GPS aids that can be selected to the point that there is nothing fundamental (except the inoperative radar) that would destroy your desire to fly the aircraft. So a lot of issues you may have seen have either been fixed or are being brought up by people not reading the documentation completely or not setting up their control options correctly especially in relation to fuel cut-off levers and using the CIV-A INS. Not saying it's perfect. Just as the winglets are a more modern option, I would love to see a classic option with clamshell reversers. There is still some issues with starting the APU that requires the test alarm to be activated twice. Perhaps they have fixed this in the latest update or maybe I'm missing something? But the aircraft is a good looker, systems are well modelled (without failure options though) and it fly's really well and importantly, it keeps your interest. Still some niggles but there is nothing major that would make you regret the purchase especially as you say, you love the B727. Go for it. No. No, Mav, this is not a good idea.
