January 10Jan 10 what the f-ps I always thought I needed the highest, best, latest DLSS 4.5 presets to enjoy MSFS2024 to its fullest extent. little did I know that even a lousy RTX 4090 with an equally old fashioned Pimax Crystal can produce 90 fps, it felt incredible so that I was wondering what's going on here, no kidding. I had never ever seen anything better than 50 fps, let alone 90 fps in VR: here the fine print, extracted from above screenshot, again all 3 screenshots were in VR mode: ok, I confess, that was with Preset K instead Preset M with the latest DLSS 4.5 and Performance Mode in MSFS 2024, but even QUALITY mode results in usually around 60 fps in my Citation GA flying under IFR today, mostly mixed ULTRA and HIGH settings. (ignore the 30 fps from Asobo in developer mode, they are just here to check game "render" resolution and upscaled VR "post" resolution). NVidia app in the heads-up top line says 60 fps. Who am I to disagree with NVidia - when they say 60 fps they mean 60 fps! 😀 for me 60 fps outweigh the slight degradation in glass cockpit clarity by far. btw: the slight fuzziness in the screenshot is from me holding the Pimax in one hand while pressing Print-Screen on the keyboard with the other. it looks much better in the cockpit than on the screenshot. I think from now on I will leave TAA and Preset M to the airline pilots. Can only use it in VR, otherwise in 2D with FrameGeneration turned on, you'll get pink flicker, but only on your 2D monitor, fortunately not in the VR headset. January 25Jan 25 With bad weather 1/2SM visibility, yeah I routinely get over 60fps too. One of the benefits of flying hardcore IFR: free extra fps... But seriously, I treat MSFS2024 as a serious IFR practicing/training tool and cannot overstate how much it helps my real IFR flights. A big plus is SimBrief EFB integration - filing IFR within 2024 to use SayIntentions is so smooth and nice. 9950X3D / 64GB / RTX5090 / Pimax Crystal Light / Win11
January 25Jan 25 Author I find it so extremely rewarding to land in CAT III conditions, something we could never do just with only our eyes which we usually tend to trust more than anything else, except that would end deadly in severe IFR. I enjoy the new found extreme high fps since NV 4.5 Smooth Motion, the best that has happened to me since MSFS 2024. check this thread and my LIGHT SHAFT comparison screen shots, need to have them OFF in low vis IFR: LIGHT SHAFTS OFF LIGHT SHAFTS ULTRA AMD 7800X3D, Windows 11, Gigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX Motherboard, 64GB DDR5 G.SKILL Trident Z5 NEO RGB (AMD Expo), RTX 4090, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 2 TB PCIe 4.0, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 1 TB PCIe 4.0, 4K resolution 50" TV @60Hz, VR: Pimax Crystal Light + HP Reverb G2 @ 90 Hz, Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant, be quiet 1000W PSU, Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black air cooler. 60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking. very nice.
January 27Jan 27 @turbomax How do you get so many FPS? What's your magic? I am running MSFS2024: - 7800X3D - GeForce RTX 4090 - 32 GB DDR5 RAM - MPG X670E Mainboard - Pimax Crystal OG with OpenXR toolkit @ 90 Hz, Pimax Play 1.4.36 - DLSS 310.5, Preset J, "Balanced" - Latest Nvidia drivers with Smooth Motion ON - Win 11 That said, I think I have a very similar setup to yours (besides the RAM). In MSFS2024, I have everything on High settings (except for the clouds which are on Ultra), trees and grass are medium etc. I think there is no setting within MSFS which really costs me a lot of frames (besides the clouds, but I love them). So there must be something outside of MSFS... Hardware Acceleration is ON, Resizable BAR is OFF... what else could have an impact? My system is not overclocked. The Pimax Crystal OG should have a slightly better performance because of the Dynamic Foveated Rendering which the Lite does not have (although I have turned it off, because it makes the image jump a little bit in MSFS2024). I am running the headset on full resolution. In MSFS2024, I am getting about 40 to 45 FPS (according to OpenXR's framerate counter) in a C172. Same goes to the Fenix A320, which is really smooth on performance. Is there something I am missing? I should note that the latest Pimax Play update was rolled out to me yesterday. I was excited about their announcement regarding Smooth Motion not working which should have been fixed with this update. But I do not see a gain in FPS, but in smoothness. I am surprised myself 😀 I was a hobby magician when I was a young boy, maybe that explains it? seriously, all I did is activate SMOOTH MOTION in NVidia APP with DLSS 4.5 (no Pimax Smooth Motion, OpenXR, STEAM VR or whatever) and FOVEATED RENDERING in MSFS 2024 under VR settings with 50%. those high 70-90 fps I only achieve in low density areas and smaller airports that I prefer instead of EGLL etc. and in IFR or night environments. otherwise 45-70 fps. hokus pokus fidibus 62 fps, (Asobo fps counter does not see the SMOOTH MOTION interpolated "fake frames" but only its "real" 30 fps. Hi I think it's your DLSS version. It has to be DLSS 4.5, the latest one which has only recently been released. This is the game-changer bit. post script - I'm probably just getting confused.
