Flying in China

Stoopy, What is the best SR-71 available now?

I only own the Blackbird Sim SR-71, not that other "Archangel" but they look to be quite different beasts; if you want something that the dev has put a lot of effort in to be very authentic and challenging I'd say the Blackbird Sim would be the one to get.  However the dev is quite clear that it is in Beta state.  However however, it is deeply discounted accordingly.  Be prepared for lots of reading and taking it one step at a time - all that said, I have found it to be very rewarding and addicting... even bought the book by Col. Richard Graham that's recommended in the manual!

I had the OrbX "Himalaya and Central Asia" mesh on MSFS2020 and I have also activated it in MSFS2024. I believe there's at least a part of China that is covered by that mesh, but I don't know how much better it is compared to the pure default MSFS2024 mesh...

I had bought that product after seeing one of those youtube channels where people just stick a camera on top of their cars and go ride the most beautiful roads here and there, and that one was specific to China and nearby regions. One of the videos was showing a region close to the lake Qinghai with some breathtaking landscapes, so I wanted to visit them in the sim 😄

Sadly, in MSFS2020 it's not really looking good at all, and I get a slightly better result in MSFS2024, but nowhere as impressive as it is on the youtube video...

Was also thinking about the orbx Himalayan mesh.

Is  it updated for 2024 ?

Thanks

Mike

It's good now check out airports on Orbx I have most of them.

I don't think it was updated, it's still the old mesh from 2020, but I think it's compatible with 2024, no ?

Thanks all.  Glad to hear there is an improvement.

I'm more interested in hearing about the general scenery.  As no point in going to a beautifully handcrafted third party airport that's surrounded by FS98 scenery.  Harbin was a particularly bad offender in MSFS 2020 a year or so ago.

Maybe time to take a look for myself.  Thanks all.

Yeah, it's much better now than it was a year ago. No more big patches of default farmland scattered through the landscape. I fly in China a lot and It was unusable before without the map replacement mod. Now I fly with the base sim scenery and it looks great - see screenshots.

I also have thought about flying in China - nearly finished my circumnavigation of South America ( some great scenery there - also some very average stuff) - now the question I want to ask is are there any others out there who use the professonal version of Map Enhancement 2024?

Now in the available servers it says that there is a choice for "China HD 2024" - again my question is there anybody out there who has used this choice? And if so is the scenery available better than your usual Google/Bing stuff?

The satellite photos are awful, but there are a lot of very good sceneries for China from WFSceneryStudios, so it's worth flying there if you use airliners and fly high up anyway. SamScene airports are also solid, at least the more recent stuff

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.
