South Florida Eastern Coastline

Featured Replies

I just flew up the Florida east coast starting at Fort Lauderdale airport and the coastline looked like a nuclear holocaust. I was in the Bonanza G36 Mod, MSFS 2024. I am using the SU5 Beta. The only Florida addon I have is the Samscene Sightseeing Miami amd it is placed near the bottom of the package reorder list. I have photogrammetry on.

There were no real looking buildings. I was at about 2000 feet altitude.

Does the Florida eastern coastline really look that bad? If not, suggestions of what I may have set up wrong?

Thanks.

I agree- I think the worst looking scenery that I ever see is the Florida eastern coastline.  I think it’s not helped by the total flat terrain but it always looks terrible.

You're saying the buildings are low resolution?  What TLOD are you running?  Would recommend at least 200...but I try to use 400 if I'm flying a slower aircraft

They are not low resolution, they barely look like buildings. They look like autogenerated failures. And I have photogrammetry on. I am going to try the exact same system in su4 to see if there’s any difference.

What airport are you near?  I'll see if I can get a comparison pic

I start at Ft Lauderdale airport, head to the water, and start flying north up the coastline.

I will have to try to see what’s going on with my system then. I will remove the Samscene sightseeing Miami add on and see if there’s any difference.

Rob,

This sounds like a rolling cache issue or you need to re-install USA region.

Just a thought.

How would I reinstall the USA region? I already deleted and recreated the rolling cache.

Access your content. Search for USA. Disable. Then enable. It's been a few months since I tried v 2024. Maybe someone else can chime in. Most scenery is streamed in 2024.

I'm still using MSFS 2020. It allows you to delete areas and re-install.

The good news is that it doesn't take long to re-install 2024.

I used to live down there (many moons ago…).

Just used the YF-23 to cruise from kfll up to Boca, then back down to MIA Beach at less than 1000 ft, just offshore.

All looks as I remember from IRL - very representative.

fwiw, I’ve got a mid system, tlod at 200.

I pretty much never fly down there, so it definitely streamed in live.

OK, I've done some more testing. First I ran the sim with an empty Community folder and nothing was any different for me. Then I ran the sim with Photogrammetry off and then everything looked normal. But with Photogrammetry on, the trees along the beach look like stone blocks. I was flying pretty low (like 600 feet) so is that the problem? I will try again at a high altitude and see what the same area looks like. For this testing I do not have any addons adjusting the TLOD and OLOD. Just setting them initially (200 and 100) and running with that.

Is it just an anomoly because I am flying quite low with photogrammetry on? At 2000 feet I can't see the trees as well. At first I thought it was the buildings making everything look weird but now I see that at 600 or 700 feet AGL, most of the trees on the beach look like stone blocks and if I turn off photogrammetry they look normal again. If that's the issue, below what altitude do you think photogrammetry needs to be turned off to look normal?
