Water Textures

Featured Replies

Anybody else update in SU4 lately that the water textures, at least around Key West, South Florida, are very blurry? No waves or nothing.

Key West has been this way forever.  It's annoying because the Caribbean has water masks that look great.

If you don't mind spending 15, Taburet seems to have a product that fixes this

Unfortunately, the add-on doesn't work with a TAA setting. Which is hard to understand. ASOBO did an outstanding job with most of the Caribbean watermasks and they look great with TAA.

The water in the KEYW area is not blurry on my system, but water is set to the highest setting.

I would not purchase this right now.  The blending with default is pretty poor and there are very blurry areas that either don't load in right away, or don't load at all.

It could be a SU5 beta thing because that's what I use.  But I also noticed there is a LOD issue... where part of the mask disappears with a moderate zoom level.  But I cranked my TLOD to 400... so that speaks volumes at the current quality I'm seeing in the sim

Here's some pics

Looking East at Key West (that's confusing lol) - it's terribly blurry... it almost seems like it's not loading at all

Over Marathon (KMTH) at about 6000 ft  - also very blurry.  One can sort of see a crisper reef below what appears to be default masking.

You can view the rough blending but at least in this area (just south of Ocean Reef Club 07FA), the watermasking and detail is fairly high end.

I'm a bit north of KEYW here, and you can again see the product sitting "under" the default super blurry masking.  I'm not sure what's going on.  It's difficult to tell from the 1990's era preview pics at Simmarket if this is expected.

And then here I believe is a LOD problem...  at a regular zoom level the further aft mask completely disappears!  So, as you fly along these things pop in and out of view.  Distracting to say the least.  The product cost me under 15 USD.  But I'd steer clear for now.  I'm going to email the developer and see if these results are intended , or if something is conflicting, or if its an SU5 beta issue.

Good heavens, that looks rubbish. There is no way that I would be able to fly around an area that looks like that

Maybe a year or two ago there was a dev livestream where they talked about watermasks, or rather the lack of them. Jörg mentioned that they had assigned a team specifically to work on watermasks and estimated it would take about three years to cover the entire planet. I don’t think they ever provided an update on that, and since they no longer do those livestreams, there’s no way to ask them about it directly anymore.

Watermasks from Miami to Key West have been neglected by ASOBO for years.

Now they are busy working on a  this new sim. I doubt that it's in their list of things to do.

I purchased, but wish I didn't also.  Even without it I can overlook it.  Some real fun flights available from Key West and MK did a great job with the airport.

The colors are much better now. I prefer that over a dark blue default color.
