March 25Mar 25 and the guy admits it 🙂 Which is the Blonde, which the Brunette? Make your guesses... I have 4... March 25Mar 25 PJ needs to get X-Camera, simHeaven X-World and XPlane map enhancement. This would answer most everything he bought up in comparison. As far as remarks about default aircraft, well, they are default aircraft. I think they are pretty good and a couple of them measure up to some pay ware I have in P3D. Since adding the above addons I can't see any advantage in trying any other sim. Edited March 25Mar 25 by Patco Lch Vic green

March 25Mar 25 I always loved brunettes. They may be a little less eye-catching, but often have more substance. Edited March 25Mar 25 by Murmur "Society has become so fake that the truth actually bothers people".

My take is he's genuinely sharing perspective and not lecturing or even preaching.
March 25Mar 25 Well, he spends most of the video talking about the good stuff in XP and even how it's been steadily improving and has improved significantly even in just the last few months. Most of his criticisms are of things many/most of us agree with, and even then, he liberally sprinkles in very positive commentary: He's in love with the new X-Crafts ERJ Has great things to say about lighting, weather effects, default airport scenery, and though he sees little difference in overall flight models, he talks about how landings in XP are "a lot more fun" than in MSFS. His biggest gripe seems to be the Default aircraft not being up to snuff vs MSFS (and in some regards, he ain't wrong...). He even talks about how the ground scenery is adequate/fine and calls out how much he likes the default trees and all that other stuff. I mean, for someone who openly prefers MSFS, he's positively gushing with praise for XP. It's GOOD for guys like this to be out there making these types of videos. In 12 mins, he makes a genuinely good case for someone to try XP instead of limiting themselves to MSFS. And he does it in a consistently positive manner. I mean, heck, just compare to the usual A330 Driver video... 😉 !

March 25Mar 25 Author I find that in most of his videos, MSFS or XP, Peter does not adhere to "professional standards" as other youtubers like BlcakBox 711 and A330 driver that are professional pilots, although Peter James is or was for a long time a professional pilot too, flying turboprops, bizjets and commuters AFAIK. But then again, Austin in the few videos where he is seen demonstrating Xp / flying one of the default aircraft does it in a rather "free mode", using sometimes huge control inputs that make the poor models joggle around wildly 🙂 Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

Because I was quite surprised by his landing pattern work - he definitely went up near 250kts, with the flaps down, and was still up around 200 on base, and probably 1,000ft too high on short final. And the landing...I mean it was like a flashback to that Delta CRJ that crash landed into Toronto a few months back...! Not that I'm expecting a textbook pattern following exact IRL procedures and techniques, but c'mon - what the heck was THAT mess?!?! 🤣
March 26Mar 26 I guess someone dipping his toe into the X-Plane water is always a good thing, but I have to think of the millions of potential customers watching the show and then stuff like "Oh, and this camera system I simply don´t get..." or "I haven´t figured out replay...." make it sound like X-Plane is lacking or being overly complex in those areas. Which is ludicrous, because on of THE strong areas (over the competition) is the camera and replay system. I also guess it´s fine if these statements come with moderating caveats ("I have not looked into how to set this up, I heard it works great when one does..."), but if I "showcase" a software to potential other users, it makes me (as someone preferring/knowing/working on it) cringe when I hear things that do not correctly present it, especially in areas where it shines. Then again, for many of these "My channel is totally geared for MSFS users, but hey, lets pretend to have an open mind and try X-Plane - so we can find out that MSFS is so much better, so please click like and subscribe if you enjoy me pointing out how it really isn´t any better in any area" videos I am not in the target audience.

I see your point Jan, an I agree with what you say above, but regarding this, I really don't think Peter has an "agenda". He's a flight simulation enthusiast who brought to use, some moons ago, Flight Unlimited 2 and 3. I loved playing both back when MS FS and even XP were far from providing that level of scenery and even of "feel of flight" ... Laminar really put a lot of work into it and on my recent test flights, I found it not too far from the ToLiss experience anymore with a few minor complaints at best. It’s not a marketing piece. this is how people really talk to each other. This is “buzz”. This is GOOD.
