Inibuilds A350 cockpit looks gigantic

Featured Replies

It feels 2x bigger than when I'm in the PMDG 777 cockpit.

I've never been in an A350 cockpit so I wouldn't know for sure.

But how do the cockpits of the 777 and A350 truly compare.

A350 is pretty darn spacious up front. You can get a good sense of it here

Yes, it’s a very big flightdeck , much bigger than the 787 or 747, I think the 777 might be slightly bigger than the 787 but the A350 is certainly the biggest of the lot.

Good to know. I just wanted to be sure that this was in fact true😆:)

I’ve done a fair bit of positioning with my airline on the A350 and usually go up front for a chat and a look around on the ground. It’s one of the things that always hits me when I walk in, is how roomy the flightdeck is.

I don't think so. I have sat in all of them in VR (back in P3D in the QualityWings 787) and the Dreamliner clearly has the bigger cockpit than the 777.

I think Jon was referring to the real world.   The Qualitywings 787 from P3D may not be as accurate an authority on this 😉

@jon b , who is currently qualified and current on the 787, and I, who previously flew the 777 and 787, agree that the assessment is correct regarding cockpit size. The ergonomics and quietness are different, for sure. What we had on P3D at the time, especially in VR technology, is quite different from what we have today in the PC environment.

I just reviewed the FCOM and noticed that the 777 is approximately 15 inches wider. Nothing spectacular, of course, but numbers and perspective are just that.

For some reason and it may just be me. I always find the A350 cockpit much more cluttered than the 777, so in the real aircraft I have always felt more comfortable in the 777. It may be a me thing, but all the glass in the A350 and the sheer volume of keyboards, keypads and buttons makes the A350 seem overfilled and somehow less spacious. On the 777 by comparison, there is actually some nice clean fascia between all the displays and a much more less cluttered pedestal. So feeling less wall to wall crammed, the 777 has always felt much more spacious to me.

This coming from someone who is a software dev in my day job and has no less than six monitors around me in my workspace as I type!

It's probably the windows size that makes all the difference in perception.
