300 mph... anyone?

The Yangwang U9 (and its U9 Xtreme variant) accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (0–62 mph) in just 2.36 seconds. This electric hypercar utilizes four electric motors to produce over 1,300 horsepower, offering rapid, "cannon-like" acceleration while also setting a production-car top speed record of over 300 mph.
Key Performance Highlights:
  • 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph): 2.36 seconds.
  • 0–60 mph: Expected to be under 2 seconds, with official figures highlighting 2.36 seconds.
  • Top Speed: Verified at 496.22 km/h (308.4 mph), making it the world's fastest production car.
  • Power: 960 kW (roughly 1,287–1,306 horsepower).
  • Motor/Battery: Four-motor, 1200V platform.
The Yangwang U9 represents BYD's entry into the high-performance electric market, targeting speeds previously unheard of for production vehicles. The car uses a 1200V architecture to handle its, at times, near 3,000 horsepower (according to some sources' special editions) to deliver intense performance.

I would love to see someone take it up to 300 mph/483 kph on a closed course.  Has this been done yet and is there a video of it?  I assume it's a weeeeeeee bit expensive.

That's the one that can detect potholes and jump over them, right?

Speed Racer's Mach 5.  Without the wonderful styling.  Speed and Trixie not included.

Officer:  "Do you know why I stopped you?"
Driver: "Because I let you."

"How far can you run at 300 mph?"
"On a good day? About a mile and three quarters."

"A closed course" implies that the road will curve. At 300 mph this beast is a little like the SR-71 at speed:  its turning radius is approximately three states.

PS. Edit to add:  Above a certain speed, a closed course means going straight ahead until you arrive back at the same place (after about 25,000 miles). This option is not available to flat earthers.

Wouldn't Indianapolis be enough? Indy cars go over 200 mph in turns, but they don't have any active suspension to help.

Oh, you brought me back memories of this series when I was younger 😁

They're currently hitting 240 at times. Last I heard, years ago, it was 220.

I'm not sure I want to try 300 mph.  Maybe at Bonneville.

Uhh…no thanks.  Imagine you’re going that fast, gripping the steering wheel and all of a sudden you sneeze…

Yep. I guess the manufacturers of such care see it as a selling point. A USP. At what point does it stop, though, 320, 350, 400, 500 mph? Nobody needs that sort of top speed.

Our Mercedes ML-500 is apparently governed at 140, according to my son.  That seems appropriate, but I wonder what the actual top speed would be.

The Amish in Southeast Pennsylvania seldom rob banks. They have no need of high speed getaway vehicles.

Everytime Amish is mentioned I remember my favorite scene in the movie "Kingpin".  It's about a washed up bowler who finds an Amish guy who is a great bowler, and takes him to Reno to enter a tournament.  Along the way, he "corrupts" him by introducing him to the outside world and alcohol.  After a wild night out, the Amish guy discovers a tiny tattoo on his chest, saying he sinned by desecrating his body.
