May 22May 22 Hey there... Check this out... 3DGrass XP12-3DGrass-12Any thoughts? Considering picking this up, because it looks nice in the video. Just not sure how much this will tank the performance... so kinda have my reservations about it.
May 22May 22 You can set cull distance. Its reall for nice screen shot. Only appears at set distance around plane.

May 22May 22 Commercial Member Opinions on the X-Plane Discord were not favourable:Costas — 19/05/2026 15:58Don't even think about it. I bought and tried it this morning.3d Grass review: 1) Limited to a range about 20-30m around the viewer's position (with maxed out settings), 2) Extremely CPU demanding (cut my FPS in half when maxed out, which is the only reasonable setting), 3) Based on billboard objects, not 3d ones, 4) [THIS IS FALSE - It actually works with orthophotos - by bad] Does NOT seem to be compatible with orthophotos (and/or custom meshes that disable/exclude autogen?!), 5) Plantation rises gradually from the ground up, and then dives again back in as the plane moves along, 6) You will barely see and grass or bushes at the edges of the taxiways (due to the 20-30m radius of drawing). The photos are totally misleading, all taken from the ground level; from the cockpit level grass is barely visible and fades out (dives gradually into the ground) at a very close to the aircraft distanceand it also does what Laminar explicitly says not to do:JustSid, Laminar Research — 19/05/2026 16:09If only LR had said over and over again that the vegetation system that works for trees is absolutely not suited for grass. Can’t believe they would just let this happen…Sorry to hear that it’s not working well for you, I appreciate you warning others. May 22May 22 Las opiniones en el servidor de Discord de X-Plane no fueron favorables:y también hace lo que Laminar dice explícitamente que no se debe hacer:I was just about to click “buy” – you saved me at the last minute...
May 22May 22 Laminar Research is acutely aware of the desire for "3D grass", but they have not found a method to implement it yet with the acceptable compromise of looks and performance. I think this should be warning enough for anyone tempted, there is a saying that something seems "too good to be true".Now it has happened before that a third-party dev accomplished something that Laminar could not (for whatever reason), or did not want to do, and a certain third-party addon caters to a special preference in some users...but every time this happens, I would be wary and carefully check reviews, especially if it is payware.

May 22May 22 But the next gen scenery will have grass, right? If they do have grass I hope it won't pop up in front of the aircraft! Looks pretty bad with that lawn mower scene, can only imagine the pop in going on when moving faster in an aircraft. Why no low flying aircraft in that video?
