Disconnected Jetways

Featured Replies

Any idea why Asobo / aftermarket devs have still been unable to fix the issue of jetways not connecting to parked, static airliners at airports? Somewhat of an immersion killer to taxi in at a major airport and see 30 jets sitting at their gates, all with the jetways retracted.

My only guess is that it may be a resource management issue...

It is a good question. I have wondered this myself for a long time.

I explain it to myself that it's like the part in Hitchhiker 's Guide to the Galaxy where Arthur Dent hitchhikes onto an interstellar transport ship that has everyone on board but in suspended animation and still hasn't taken off, because they're awaiting delivery of lemon-scented napkins before the flight can depart.

They wake everyone up every 100 years to announce their imminent departure as soon as the napkins arrive.

With AIG TC, the jetways will dock to AI aircraft. Just not with BATC, FSHud etc...

I think ultimatly it depends on the injector. If the AI Aircraft are injected into the sim and left to be controlled by the internal AI Traffic engine (as is the case with AIG) then the aircraft models are indeed detected as AI Traffic and the jetways etc connect.

For other apps such as BATC, SI and PSXT, the AI models are injected just as "models" and moved around by the injector itself as opposed to the sim. In such instances, the SIM doesn't actually know or recognise the model as an AI Aircraft (because its not controling it) and thus jetways don't connect.

Interesting. I did not know that. I use BATC. I guess I need to reach out to them. Thanks.

We can't do anything unless Asobo adds the possibility of triggering jetways through their API. It's been requested months ago and I don't think it will happen anytime soon.

That's disappointing. It's a major immersion killer that's been present since Day 1. You'd think Asobo could devote a bit of time to addressing it. I don't even care if they skip the animation and simply teleport the jetway entrance to the side of the aircraft.

Do you have any sense why Asobo won't grant your request?

Because they think that it hampers performance. Like the landing gear culling idiotism...

If it did, then wouldn't we have the option of not having working jetways just like so many other things that may hamper performance?

That's complete bull.

If that was the case, than no aircraft at all would be able to trigger jetways.

But AI aircraft using the default AI system, I.E., asobo's live traffic, FSLTL and AIG, can trigger jetways.

Plus obviously, player aircraft can also use jetways.

He was asking why Asobo does not open the API for it, not why jetways do work for the internally controlled AI traffic vs external AI traffic.

It’s not that they’re unwilling to grant our request, they simply haven’t responded at all. I assume they receive a large number of requests, many of which likely go unanswered. It's probably not a request that would be high on their list.
