Well that actually could be a good idea right now since MS Store has 20% off the cost of MSFS2024 even though I am not sure if I need it but one day I guess there will be no support for 2020.

The only 'problem' I can imagine is that my MSFS2020 is installed on a 960 Evo NVMe ssd drive which is much faster than a 'normal' ssd drive and I only have space for MSFS2024 IN on a 'normal' (6 gB/s) drive tand wonder if running 2024 on a 'normal' ssd drive will be noticeably slower than if on an 960 Evo NVMe drive? Any ideas?

2024 is pretty small, actually. It's initial download is about 10 gigs.

No, not only not noticeably. But not at all. Transfer speed of any ssd will be more than enough. Just check MSFS file transfers via taskmanager and you'll see how slow they are.

I took advantage of the discount that Steam had and installed '24. It seems to be as stable as '20 and I seem to be getting a smoother flying experience overall.
My tipping point was reading about GSX's roadmap and how development would continue for '24 as it offered a better path forward. If Virtuali, who has been incredible in providing continuity and updates with no charge to the customer, is stating that development for MSFS2020 is becoming an issue and most devs stating outright that they will not be including '20 in their plans, that was my trigger.

FYI (sorry if someone has already suggested this and I overlooked it).

I 'resurrected' the icon by Launch the Xbox app making sure I was logged in, select MSFS2020 using right mouse click, select Manage and there is Create Desktop Shortcut.
