AzurPoly Rafale: not just a pretty face

Featured Replies

Let’s get ready to SUPER CRUISE! 😎🇫🇷

Looks like the video embargo has lifted - releasing this week.

Will be (almost) the most expensive .mil jet in the sim at about US$45. 😮

(The most expensive has been the $50 BAe Hawk by JF - lovely jet, but wait for a sale - usually 40% off)

Given at least some level of official support from Dassault, as well as the Jet Fighter Experience group, as well as a looong list of substantial features, this may well be worth the cost!

Systems fidelity seems to be very high, and from what I can see so far, graphics modeling is Tier 1.

Anyhoo, here we go:

90 sec intro:

11 mins overview:

I note that Kenobi above is being refreshingly transparent above - letting on that the totally custom flight model struggles with crosswind landings. 👍

55 mins:

Beckett doesn’t usually dive deep beyond the cold n dark start up, but he gives a thorough look at the addon

Steve’s not a technical guy, but he makes up for it in enthusiasm:

Still have to go deeper, but at the mo it's at the top of my list for modern mil jets in MSFS. Sitting in this cockpit makes me feel like i'm sitting in an $80 jet in DCS World for the First. Time. Ev

Definitely has that Fly By Wire sharpness to it, but not excessive as is my perception of the IFE and other addons.

The landing speeds seem ridiculously low, but it is a canard delta with less than 50% fuel, so who am I to judge? 😁

There's some type of auto approach mode, too, which is cool, but i've got to read up more on that.

It also has the VERY cool AoA On-Speed symbology similar to the Mirage 2000, which is a little touchy to get those 3-ish symbols aligned on base & final (probably better to get it settled on downwind):

It took me a few laps around to get it, and I'm still probably 10kts too slow here and the nose should be down a few more degrees, but it's close enough for a soft touch down and i didn't scrape the tail, so there's that!:

AP1GczPQj1yHBo6qKj5l1DxmoxaNlD_FIXu9SVPh

Here's what it looked like outside. Again, should have had a bit more speed to get the nose down, but even at this high AoA there's plenty of tail clearance and the HUD symbology is in the green as above:
(note the fully articulated canards! :) ):

AP1GczPXCURxzrjvVgE9eaMGH82FMDgZCHR8gvEO

(typical Florida afternoon weather: thunderstorms on one side of the airport and fluffy blue skies on the other!)

This is the AzurPoly house livery - i kinda like it:

AP1GczOwKxWsfyBABD7IdaSdSttYMg9NaCtXRxqb

Added that speed and this seems a more reasonable attitude:

AP1GczMbGnLsFgw1UjPxtwSGbKnu2SHsQMiSGWmN

Note that like other full Fly By Wire jets, there's no dedicated airbrake - the control surfaces articulate to maximize drag (note the flaperons are fully up here even tho we're rolling out with no back pressure), as well as the canard being angled (tho I figure it should be down once we've got WoW?):

AP1GczOR3GVuXXf70gmbUT_foC5l1E5QSu1E7qNa

The glamour shot - detail IS excellent!:

AP1GczNBNaj23J20gmQ3_K-XTvImzNbIs5Rw1Qjz

So, I think we've got a good jet here. Have to put it away - for now! 😁

Hello! If it's not too much trouble, could you please check whether it has an Indonesian livery? Also, does it have functional weapons? Thank you!

I like AzurPoly - they take their business very seriously, and their product support is excellent. I won't be buying the Rafale, however, as my old brain and reaction times struggle with fast jets. The JF Hawk and Dave Garwood's Hunters are just about on the edge of my personal envelope. I'll stick with their slower stuff, like the Tracker that's under development - that's a definite purchase for me.

Anyone try this in VR yet? Waiting for confirmation there are no major issues before I pull the trigger.

As a fellow Old Guy: don’t sell yourself short.

this jet is FAR easier to fly than the Hawk!

The Fly By Wire protects the flight envelope, and the HUD gives you all the information you need to fly - without ever needing to look down at the Six Pack.

I terms of handling, it’s perfectly smooth and steady - if that’s how you fly it.

Give the Default FA-18 a try to see what I mean. While it’s not Hi Fidelity in systems, the general handling and HUD usage are good samples

In short, if you can handle the Default 737 MAX, you can handle the Rafale 😎👍

P.s., I’m really looking forward to that Tracker, too! Should be fun to take it out to the aircraft carriers just for old times sake 😎

Hmmm...still not sure if it's my cup of tea, but I'll bear your thoughts in mind. It does look beautiful though!

I fly combat in DCS World, so I'm not likely to carry more than fuel tanks on this one. 👍

This video from my OP gives a demonstration of a couple air to air engagements in Rafale:

The Hawk is still one of the best modeled aircraft in the game, and the Rafale is definitely in the same league 👍

Does this include a Croatian Air Force repaint? I need another fighter jet like I need a punch in the face, but this one sounds pretty awesome and after visiting Croatia a few years back I have a real soft spot for that country…I could see myself buzzing around the beautiful scenery and mountains in this.

Well, so far i'd say it's worth taking a hit to have this one in your collection 😁

Awesome thank you, it looks like resistance will be futile for this one!

Thank you sir. I'll absolutely get this one (and hopefully the spark lasts longer).

I owned VRS Tacpack on FSX days, I have waited so long for this day to come

Yes, I'm looking at screenshots elsewhere, like Sim Outhouse. I must say, AzurPoly has done a fabulous job with the model and textures. Maybe my resistance will crumble.
