September 20Sep 20 New high end system with Ryzen 7 9850X3D CPU and Nvidia RTX5080 GPU. Old monitor is 8 years old and was high end in 2018, Acer 16:9 32” 4K LED.I use TrackIR and am completely confused whether a wide and curved monitor would be best or maybe a larger 16:9 4K screen with HDR.Any suggestions? I want to improve the experience with FS2024. Edited September 20Sep 20 by neil0311 Update
September 21Sep 21 Does your current 4K monitor have G-sync or any kind of VRR? Best regards,Luis Hernández Main rig: self built, AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D (with SMT off and CO -50 mV), 2x16 GB DDR4-3200 RAM, Nvidia RTX 5060Ti 16GB, 256 GB M.2 SATA SSD (OS+apps) + 2x1 TB SATA III SSD (sims) + 1 TB 7200 rpm HDD (storage), ID-Cooling SE-224-XTS air cooler, Viewsonic VX2458-MHD 1920x1080@120 Hz (G-sync compatible), Windows 11. Running P3D v5.4 (with v4.5 scenery objects as an additional library, just in case), FSX-SE, MSFS2020, MSFS2024 and even FS9! Lossless Scaling for all my sims but 2024, which uses the in-sim one.Mobile rig: ASUS Zenbook UM425QA (AMD Ryzen 7 5800H APU @3.2 GHz and boost disabled, 1 TB M.2 NVMe SSD, 16 GB RAM, Windows 11 Pro). September 21Sep 21 Good question Luis Hernandez.I don't know anything about your current monitor, but I'm still using an ASUS PG279Q, 27", 1440p monitor and it's still a very good monitor. It's 144 Hz, with hardware Gsync that works GREAT. Were I to have a more robust PC might I like a new monitor...quite possibly, but I most certainly wouldn't rush into a replacement without some serious study of current models to learn what they might provide that is so much better that I would spend $1000+ to get one.Honestly I would use your current monitor and spend the next 3-6 months trying to figure out a superior replacement and what it will cost, or whether it even makes sense to replace it. i7-6700k • Gigabyte GA-Z170X-UD5 • 32GB DDR4 2666 • EVGA FTW ULTRA RTX3080 12GB
September 22Sep 22 16:9 form factor is what I would recommend, with or without a head tracker (probably with). I went with a 48" OLED, up from a 32" 1440p monitor, so retained basically the same resolution (pixel density). For my money, it was an LG OLED48B65LA. This has everything - OLED, Gsync, VRR, HDR, 144Hz. It's also a damned good TV even if I stop using it for flight sim. Expensive, though (£1K). September 22Sep 22 Moderator @neil0311 , is 32” the largest your room can accommodate? That size has the highest number of 4K monitors.I bought a BenQ 32” 8 years ago and it’s still a superb display. I’ve turned off VSync and with Steam Lossless Generation app can sustain 58fps (29*2) at all but the most demanding airports in P3Dv5 even with FSL Concorde which is my most demanding aircraft. They have two both extremely good.BenQ MOBIUZ EX3210U 4K Gaming MonitorOr if you fancy OLED there’s the EX321UZ|31.5” 4K 240Hz BenQ MOBIUZ OLED Gaming monitor Ray (Cheshire, England). September 22Sep 22 Author No, 32” is not a limit for me. It’s what I have now, and 8 years ago was the sweet spot for cost/performance.If I could add HDR to what I have, I’d probably be content. I’m just trying to get clarity on whether a wide or curved monitor is a good choice for FS or not, and whether Track IR is obsolete.

Put the question to Google and refine it when prompted. The more detail you give it the better the results it delivers. You’ll have a far greater choice from fiat 16:9 monitors than any other size or type. Ray (Cheshire, England). September 23Sep 23 If it's mainly for flight sim, then you want the biggest monitor you can accommodate. I've been using a 48" TV as my main monitor for the last five years. It's OLED, variable refresh, 120HZ so image quality is really good.
September 23Sep 23 on variable fresh would make sure you get the specs on the low end of how far the sync goes. Gsync ultimate will go super low and still maintain smoothness. But some of the Gsync screens really only work above a certain minimum frame rate. Meaning if you fall under that in the sim you will see stutters. The gsync ultimate monitors actually have a a physical chip installed and are not just a software function. 5800X3D, 4090FE, 64GB DDR4 3600C16, Gigabyte X570S MB, EVO 970 M.2's, Alienware 3821DW and 2 22" monitors, Corsair RM1000x PSU, 360MM MSI MEG, MFG Crosswind, T16000M Stick, Boeing TCA Yoke/Throttle, Skalarki MCDU and FCU, Logitech Radio Panel/Switch Panel, Spad.Next
