September 25Sep 25 I was trying to search for a mod on flightsim.to and got a popup ad window that is holding the content for ransom, stating I must first view their short ad in order to gain access to the sight for 24 hours.Unfortunately I am unable to paste a copy of the ad image. I even have my ad blocker turned off for their site and still they want to push ads. Pitiful, imho.Edited for update: I went back a while later and did not get blocked by the same or similar ad. Then, coming back a third time I received the same "view the short ad to gain 24 hour access to the site" popup that blocks access. Not sure what is going on but to me, it is rather sketchy. September 28Sep 28 I run two extensions on every browser I use, mostly Chrome but I'm switching over to Firefox on older PCs and Laptops for the performance boost:AdblockplusUblock - or Ublock Origin if you can still get it, unsureNever paid for either, although both offer a paid version, the free version of each works well enough, provided you run both at the same time.Haven't seen an ad on Youtube or banner/sidebar ads or pop-ups in a while. Even with the recent Youtube changes to try and circumvent adblockers, both of these work. Mobile is another beast, but on desktop, these are my go-to. September 30Sep 30 People here recommended ublock origin light for Chrome (if you use Chrome) when this has come up in the past. It works great for me, I never get a popup about any adblockers or have site issues. I installed it and haven't thought about it since, it just seems to work (for now anyway). ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
October 3Oct 3 I have seen the "You must view a short advertisement..." message before there. What is worse is that if you actually click on the ad it tries to force you to allow it to install an addon that modifies your browser settings and installs additional software.
