RC4 upgrade

Featured Replies

Hello,As I've been reading this forum and visiting the RC website I would realy start using this great product now. My question is if I buy version 3.1 now, can I upgrade to 4.0 when it is available by paying the price difference between the two (if there is any) or can I better wait until RC4 is available? Regards,Huppel

If you buy RCv3 now you will be given the opportunity to upgrade to RCv4 at a reduced price from the new user cost. It will not be the difference between the to. Your best option would be to wait for RCv4.

Thanks for your answer!I'll try to keep myself from pressing the 'buy' button untill RC4 is released ;-)Huppel

Press the button now.I held off waiting for version 3 and regretted it - I could have had version 2 running and the benfit of using it for several months. I don't think the release of Version 4is imminent.Andy b

RC 3.1 is absolute great. But there is one thing: It's unable to "interact" with AI a/c. And -- IMHO -- that's a real show stopper if you are using such addon's like Ultimate Traffic or MyTraffic. So I'm awaiting RC4 very eagerly.Regards, Tom.

>Press the button now.>>I held off waiting for version 3 and regretted it - I could>have had version 2 running and the benfit of using it for>several months. >>I don't think the release of Version 4is imminent.>>Andy bI'll second Andy's remarks. I asked the same question and had the same internal debate in March. I pushed the button and have had nearly 3 months of enjoyment so far. It boils down to whether the money is an issue. For me, the cost was the same as a half hour of real flight time that I think nothing of spending, and RC will give me many more hours of enjoyment. The fact that no news has been shared on the beta being complete and no announcements on release dates to me means that they could still be weeks or months away from release. I could be wrong, and it could show up tomorrow, but I think "summer" was the last time frame mentioned. That could be a month from now, or 4 months from now. -Neil

There is partial interaction with AI in the sense if you enable it in the options (Interact with AI) you will be warned of target conflicts. Version 4 will have major control of AI rather than just recognition. In the meantime I'd suggest getting V3.1. Investigate using it with the freeware version 1.0 of AISmooth. Visit their forum on flightsimmer.com to read about some gotcha's. You might wish to look at a thread I started with the subject of too much AI holding backup (stacking).Another possibility is using AI Traffic Seperation by Ken Salter which takes a different tact.Either utility creates holes in dense traffic situations allowing you to eventually take-off from a backed up take-off cue and integrate with landing traffic.I the risk of getting flamed for repeating myself, I always have a TCAS gauge in my panel, either a GA type such as that comes with Ultimate Traffic or some freeware versions, and for larger aircraft it is often integrated with the EHSI display such as in the Reality-XP payware Jetline gauge suites. There is also Eric Marciano's freeware F-16 gauge and others to try. By knowing the AI situational awareness, I can adjust speed and direction (especially landing in NOTAMS mode of RC) to maintain seperation of air traffic ahead of and behind me on final. Also investigate Ken Salter's freeware FS Configurator (I think that is what it is called) that provides the long awaited AI taxi speed fix as one of its features for FS9 that gets the AI in front of you off the runway faster to avoid go-arounds at busy airports.I have been extremely happy with RC3.1 and started using it with FS8 due to its ATC shortcommings, and I find it still a necessity with FS9 with its ATC improvements. It makes quite a difference and worth getting for all IFR controlled flight.

HiI am also trying to wait for V4 but its difficult. Are you saying jd that we are still a few months away from release of V4?Any clarification on the present development and release date would be helpfull for a future customer. Many ThanksTony

It's my impression RC4 is not coming soon but is several months away. Do I understand you correctly?

i'm not going to commit to a date. i'm not going to release something because the calendar says it is such and such a date. i know what needs to be done before release, i'm going to work on a plan to finish it, and when a date is in sight, i'll let you know.jd

Please do not misunderstand us when we want an indication of this release. You must know that for any developer to announce that a new version is coming out then it is natural for everybody to start asking about a release date, especially if the program is so good like yours. I also know that you prefer to release it when you are sure that everything is OK, we understand that. Just bare with us, anxious and impatient people.Stelios

no sense of anger, truly. and it was uncharacteristic to even say v4 was going to be released in 2005. i felt i owed it to everyone to know what was going on. i'm glad your anxious and impatient. it keeps us all goingjd
