  1. >I think They were headed up the east river,Didn't want to>contact LGA tower for transition, and tryed to do a 180,or>cross over manhatten to head south on the Hudson. And with the>wind out of the east, Blew the turn?:( Hi,While we don't know what their intent was, nor what they wanted to do, one thing has cleared up in at least my mind as a Pilot.I went to the maps.google.com for the area, and then compared the crash site with the TAC (Terminal Area Chart) for NYC. Match up the Island (FDR) in the East River with 70th street, and 72nd street, and then compare the location to the TAC.It appears they busted air space, as it looks to be 7000/SFC (Surface) for that area over the east River near LaGuardia. Unless they were in Contact with LGA Controllers, which is required within 6 miles of the airport below 2000'.That may or may not account for the turn as maybe they realized they busted, or like said above were trying to get over to the Hudson.Who Knows.....The TAC for NYC is in the Avsim file library here, and is a 2004 edition. The 7000/1100 appears to be for the Hudson river, and extends to about the shoreline for NYC, where SFC Then applies. The East River is clearly SFC at the point where they allegedly tried to make a Turn, and where the Crash occured. That area of the River acts in many ways like a Shrinking Canyon, not a very smart place to be, and two California Pilots, flight instructor or not, apparently didn't plan their flight very well, regardless of what their intent was, their decision to fly up the East River is a contributing factor in at least my review of what has happened and what we know thus far.Regards,Joe
  2. Looks like a Cirrus SR-20, NBC4 New York says it was registered to Yankees Pitcher Corey Lidle, and his passport was found in the street. Not a whole lot of room to maneuver around the East River there with the requirements.http://www.wnbc.com/news/10053779/detail.htmlSad day for Aviation and Yankees fans. ALso heard there was a medical center on the lower floors of the building.Joe
  3. Ok, now that was a funny post. Well done.I also went by the Best Buy without going in, as their were sveral VW Beetles outside with Guys with sunglasses casing the lot. They had to be in on the Raid stuff.
  4. Do any of you really have a clue?????Just asking for context here.I went to my local wal-mart, where they had FSX-Standard on the shelf but not Deluxe.I asked the manager there if they had deluxe and she said not yet, and then I asked her why this was on the shelf when the release date was the 17th.Her response was this. PARAPHRASED*" We do not have the same requirements as we have for Music DVD's, and we can place it on the shelves when we get it."So all this stuff about fines and all. Are you all 100% fact driven that these stores have to honor PC Game release dates, or is it only a suspicion of yours.I ask this because I thought it was interesting that a wal-mart person would specifically say they don't have to honor it, without me prompting for that response. Now technically, yes this is a DVD release, but unless someone posts the actual agreement, can't you all just be happy and go buy the new version. If it's out near you, great, if you have to wait another week or two, big deal, as IMHO, it really isn't going to affect your life over that time frame is it, unless you get ulcers awaiting its' release.Regards,Joe (Still don't have it, and can wait a couple weeks too)PS- I really don't care about release dates, as once it is in the system, everyone should just sell the thing. I'm not really big on marketing ploys, and I can practice delayed gratification very well, especially if it saves me a few bucks.

    Who is AIR SIMMER?

hehehe...Probably a lot of people wondering that. Looks like a "rent a model", which you see at different types of shows. They have a website here:http://airsimmer.com/Looks like an Airbus flightsim developer new to the arena. Not clear if they are Freeware or Payware, I'm guessing the latter.Regardm,Joe
  7. Hi all,Not sure I have an opinion either way on this. I mean, I enjoy reading about FSX, but still fly FS9. (and the demo a little)With the release coming sometime next month, those that retain FS9 will undoubtedly have to use the search feature for specifics. We've waited quite a while for a new release, and now that it is so close, the management here chose a course of action they felt would best represent the community.(although it is their site, and they get to choose, don't forget)BTW - Don't forget the conference is this weekend, so that may be why there is not a more reasoned response from them. Although they did state their reasons previously I think. As stated, there is a tips section, but with a new product comes change. It is always good to vent so Mgmt knows how you feel, but surely one can adjust, even if you don't agree with the decision.I just file it under things you can't control, and now I'm off to go flying.Maybe that is the answer. When you get frustrated, go fly a flight in your fully functional FS9, or if you haven't already, go grab the demo of FSX, and do a little island hopping.Because as was stated by many, once FSX is on the shelves, this forum will be inundated with FSX questions, problems, (perceived or real), as well as your general I don't like this, or why didn't they fix this remarks. And then you will have to use the search feature here to find a FS9 thread.I'm off to go flying.CYA.Joe

  9. Oh come now, CBS making errors......."Editor's Note: A previous version of this story included a graphic of the Japanese flag instead of the Chinese flag. We regret the error."How about shame on them for not properly researching a story in the first place, more status quo at that place, I guess....
  10. Yep, You all better dump that dog stock (EADS) of theirs too, this is going to get a lot worse before it gets better, IMHO.http://iracs.isg.de/eads/2005/chart_en_2005.htmhttp://quote.morningstar.com/Quote/Quote.aspx?ticker=BADoesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out this trend....Boeing is going to clean up after all this is said and done, but hey that's only my opinion, and not fact. :)I will add I had a very Pleasant flight from LAX to Calgary and back for a week on business. WestJet 737, with all leather, and seat back TV. Nice. Oh and the Golf Course and suites at Kananaskis simply rock.Regards,JoePS- Grasshopper ok.....PSS.... Alexander Keith's Rocks...PSSS.... Kokanee's can get you really drunk when you drink a bunch of it.....
  11. Ooohh..Good Point,Next complaint about frame rates gets the link to this one, eh? ;-)
  12. Before anyone actually clicks on the above post regarding the concorde. It is a Link to make a Paper Airplane, not a Freeware FS9 Aircraft. :-)
  13. BTTT as I've seen a few new ones added....
  14. I've asked Mike MM, to compile a list.Regards,Joe
  15. >Yes the terrain is in there, and yes it it also limited to>the area of the AOPA version. Thanks david, appreciate the response. :)
  16. Does this release include The Chelton Flightview MFD Terrain option, and if so is the area limited like the AOPA version?
  17. Well the glass panel screen shot on f1's site looks the same pretty much with what we have with the AOPA Commander.Looks like the same plane to me. Except you can dial back to guages if you want.Be interested to hear if the Cheltons were of limited use area like the AOPA one or if they included the data for a greater area, or excluded it altogether. The Chelton Flightview MFD Terrain that is.
  18. Hi Alex,Great job on the video. Very Well done. Thanks for doing it, my kids thought it was cool too. :)Regards,Joe
  19. >>10 years for me - How long has it been it been for you? How>long have you been Microsoft Flight Simming?>>RHNow we're going back.I haven't been a loyal customer, I just went with who I felt had the better product at the time.FS 5.1 in 1995-1996, first sim, CGA computer, I thought it was cool stuff for the time. Then a Hiatus and I bought Pro-Pilot 99 a few years later, in which I used to help earn my PP-ASEL. :) (That and a studentpilot website) I still remember making posts about my progress and asking questions. After that, my next sim purchase was Fly! II, which was awesome for the time. It was then that I joined Avsim too, I believe the manual had a link for it or something. My next purchase was MSFS 2002 pro, since the Fly series was no more. :(Then on to FS9 where we stand now.I still wish there were (real) competition to help spur along everything we want, but I'm grateful to fly what we have. The recent six day RTW race which Avsim won over Flightsim.com and sim-outhouse.com really brings out the positive aspects of what FS can do. I was able to fly 5 legs and three Berlin Airlift legs in the race and had a blast, along with many participants form the three websites.I'm looking forward to buying FSX when it is released, and I'm quite sure I'll be stopping at Costco to pick up my copy that day. Thanks Microsoft, you've broadened my horizons, helped me to be a more proficient pilot, and brought millions into a Hobby we all hold dear to our hearts. And thanks for the thread, great memories have been jogged.Regards,JoePP-ASEL
  20. Bob Hoover takes the cake as far as his flying goes. Great stuff to watch as an observer. His flights I saw at Oshkosh over the years still bring back memories. Thanks,Joe
