  1. >Hi there,>>I have a rather simple question. I will be over at my in-laws>for the next couple of days and will purchase FSX there. Is>there a problem if I'd install it on my in-laws PC, delete it>when I leave next week and then re-install on my PC?>>I know this sounds weird but I won't have anything else to do>at my in-laws and my wife 'allowed' me to take my Yoke/Pedals>with me :-)>....must be flightsim addicted ;-)>>Cheers,>Pete>>http://members.aol.com/pzsoulman/myhomepage/logo.gif>AMD64-3400,1GB/3200DDRAM,WinXP(SP2),DirectX9.0c,Geforce6800(128MB)(Det.84.21),>CH Yoke/PedalsPete,Read your eula, it does not mention PC, or Computer per say, it does mention device, of course, device is defined ONLY as the device you use the software on... (You is you, I think) :-)So follow the eula, and if they give you grief, recite the eula, and take a look at how it reads. You can't share it between device, but hey that may mean both copies running at once on two device, you can't be in two places at one time, can you?So you have to decide that one on your own. Me, I'm not in your situation, but it doesn't say you have to uninstall, only you may uninstall...Talk about ambiguous.... Courts don't like vague contracts they tend to throw them out quite a bit, IMHO...
  2. Wow, we should all read the eula...That article is misleading, IMHOHere is the link to the Article:http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/927007Which, IMHO contains items contrary to the eula on our hard drive....With regards to the activation scheme of FSX, I have a real problem with that article and what reads in the eula on my hard Drive...The Article states:Q4: How many times can I activate the product?A4: You can activate games for Windows two times. Removing and then reinstalling the game will not affect the game activation quota as long as you have not changed any hardware components on the computer.Q6: Can I install the game on more than one computer?A6: Microsoft Product Activation verifies that a software program's product key has not been used on more personal computers than the software's license allows. The product key can be used only on one computer. To run a game on two or more computers, purchase additional copies.FALSE...FALSE...FALSE... No where does it say anywhere in the eula ONE COMPUTER.... Are they for real???? This is in direct contradiction of the eula on my hard drive. No where in the eula in my directory of FSX does it say I can only activate two times, or on one computer. It specifically uses device, not computer...The eula Deluxe Version states the following:a. Licensed Device. The licensed device is the device on which you use the software. You may install and use one copy of the software on the licensed device. IT DOES NOT SAY COMPUTER... Guess what, I designate the device which by definition becomes the device when I use the software on it.. Get it... "8. TRANSFER TO ANOTHER DEVICE. You may uninstall the software and install it on another device for your use. You may not do so to share this license between devices......What..... Doesn't say one, as the eula says I MAY, (Don't have to, IMHO) uninstall and then install on another device.... Pretty vague, I don't think that one would hold up, IMHO.... As far as sharing between devices, it says I can transfer it, and then it says the device by definition is the device you use it on... HUH?????1) b. License Model. The software is licensed on a per copy per device basis.......Yep, got that, per device, and of course Number 8.2) a. Licensed Device. The licensed device is the device on which you use the software. You may install and use one copy of the software on the licensed device......5) SCOPE OF LICENSE. The software is licensed, not sold. This agreement only gives you some rights to use the software.......8. TRANSFER TO ANOTHER DEVICE. You may uninstall the software and install it on another device for your use. You may not do so to share this license between devices.********************It DOES NOT Say I can only activate twice, nor does it limit the number of devices I desire to install it on..... It says install on another device for your use...It also states:11. ENTIRE AGREEMENT. This agreement (including the warranty below), and the terms for supplements, updates, Internet-based services and support services that you use, are the entire agreement for the software and support services. So is there now a LEGAL supplement to our License within one week of release, that states only two activations and is MSFT pulling new terms as they move along. And I have a couple other beefs with this license and activation scheme.....WILL MICROSOFT be charging for a DX10 Update as alleged new functionality is added by way of a feature update.....The License says this:"3. ADDITIONAL LICENSING REQUIREMENTS AND/OR USE RIGHTS.a. Additional Functionality. Microsoft may provide additional functionality for the software. Other license terms and fees may apply"Note the words FEES Folks.... Just like SOME add-on developers are charging for alleged feature updates, MSFT has now given themselves the out to charge you down the road. Doesn't mean they will, but it's there, isn't it ....Oh and one more for you.....4) "You acknowledge and agree that Multiplayer Play may not be consistently available or operate error free, and that Multiplayer Play may be discontinued by Microsoft or its agents at any time without notice to you."That's right they could decide that multiplayer is so screwed up, they MAY just turn it off without any notice to you. Maybe someone keeps hitting the switch which is why folks apparently keep getting booted from the gamespy network....Folks your responsibility is to the eula, and that article is blatantly contradictory to the eula, in my opinion....I think I can make as many hardware changes as I desire, uninstall it, reinstall whatever, and no where does it state in the eula that I am limited to two activations....The way I read it, someone is attemtping to reap Vista Type license schemes on FSX.....So, why is MSFT putting these NEW items in an article when it does not match up legally IMHO, with the eula.... Why the contradiction?????Why the alleged two limit activation, and why is it not in the eula if it allgedly applies so badly they put in in an additional article....I appreciate the FSX folks coming in, and this is no dig at you good folks who develop this. This has to do with the policy folks and this license scheme..I am enjoying borrowing the software thus far, but that article is simply not factual in nature nor does it read as the eula does, IMHO.Comments....Thanks,Joe
  3. Hi all,If anyone besides me is pretty sure they won't be desiring to log into Gamespy anytime soon, there is now an alternative.FSHostClient 1.0 BETA has now been released.Get it here:http://www.chocolatesoftware.com/fshost/NOTE:1) BETA Expires November 30th, 2006 (He states there will be a newer version up by then)2) It is a BETA, you know much like FSX in some ways... :-)3) If you have problems with it, tough beans, it's a BETA and better than the alternative of Gamecrook...3a) If you do report problems, maybe tell the good folks at Chocolate in their BETA Forum here:http://www.chocolatesoftware.com/forum/index.php4)***If you expect perfection, don't download it, it's not called BETA for nothing... But you can help if you find any anomolies and let them know.5) See FS2002 and FS2004 Players as well as FSX. How's that. :-)6) There is also a To-Do List he has for other options.7) Revisit their site often for what is sure to be occasional updates.Hope This Helps,Joe
  4. FSHost has a BETA good until Nov 30th, 2006.This is their first version. Go here and read upo, and decide if you want to give that a try.http://www.chocolatesoftware.com/fshost/Regards,Joe
  5. The first is very basic,By Duantlesshttp://www.dauntless-soft.com/PRODUCTS/Fre...mchecklists.asp***************Unbelievable site Below***************Now the Nirvana for the 767 and of course also 100% Free is here:http://www.smartcockpit.com/Just click on the Boeing 767 on the left hand side and start digging. You won't find a better Free Source anywhere IMHO. Lots of PDF's.... :-)Enjoy..... :-)Regards,JoePS - They also have the 737.
  6. >Well, here's a radical suggestion...>>...why not press Help/Learning Center in FSX and try reading>the manual? ;)Another uncalled for remark with no help attached....How about this instead....In the learning center, under Index, Choose M, then Menu, it states:To display/hide the menu barPress the ALT key. It DOES NOT however, state that when you press Alt Key to display the menu, it is immediate, but on some systems when you press the ALT key to Hide the menu, a quick hit will not work like it does when opening it, and there is a minuscule delay and one must hold down the ALT key on some systems longer, my case about a second. And others are experiencing the same concern. So maybe next time, you will acknowledge that others experiences with the program may actually differ from your ALLEGED perfect FS world.Nothing in the Learning center alludes to his problem that I found, and he already stated he hit the ALT Key to display it.So if one were to do such a radical suggestion as reading the manual, in this case, it is uncalled for, much like your comment.
  7. Here is what I did. Finally picked up FSX at Circuit City on Saturday. Paid $47.99, $51.71 with tax.Went back and opened up my Tin Box of FS2004 COF, Looked at Receipt, and it read Costco, August 8th, 2003, Paid $46.99. Over three years ago...So FSX Cost me exactly $1.00 More for the new verison than I paid for the last new version. Bwahhahaha.... Now that was funny to me at least... What a Bargain... (BTW - No way I was paying full retail...)Anyway, I came home and did the following.I completely Uninstalled FS2004, COF, using the MS Suggestions for removing if you have the patch. (This includes removing all registry settings).BTW - The manual remove instructions are here for anyone interested...http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888846I then installed FSX, and I am withholding my full judgement until I get a few hours in and check out a few things. If I do decide to reinstall older aircraft, I'll do that later. I know the Multiplayer is crap, IMHO, after getting booted a few times from GameCrook... I am keeping tabs at FSHOST, as they will be issuing a newer version for FSX, and all will be fine in my Multiplayer world and I won't have to use GameCrook...The sim seems much smoother, but my older system is not up to full snuff. I am considering a New AGP card, possibly the ATI X850 Pro 256mb to get me through until my next system. Here is what I have thus far.AMD AthlonXP 3000+ Barton o/c at 13 x 182 = 23662gb Corsair Value RamSapphire 9600xt 256mb o/c to 536/330FPS were what I expected considering what I have.*****************And Now on to your post*****************As for the whining, SO WHAT......If people want to whine let them, this post of yours is really you just whining about them, and you are exhibiting the same behavior you are opining about.I see it as people's rightful opinions the same as your rant here. For every person that complains about something that does not meet their expectations, someone else tries to diminish their opinions. Why not accept that others have opinions and leave it at that. You say you are amazed at these opinions.I am not amazed, I expected them, and I feel many others who have been around a long time here expected them as well. 9or they are in denial...)I will say I am happy that this site (Avsim), at least does not Censor peoples opinions and in fact allows them to opine about their disappointed expectations. As consumers, all people should be able to express their discontent about ANY Product they pay for.I call it FREEDOM of Expression, and well, others like you I guess call it whining. So relax, take a few flights, and don't let others opinions amaze you as much. So, IMHO, Tweak your sim, take a flight, and realize your expectations are met, but try not to pass judgment on what others own personal expectations are when they spend their money.IMHO, they have every right, and in some cases, even a responsibility to point out their perceived flaws, whether you experience them or not.Have a nice day,Sincerely,Proud Avsim Member,Sonar5(Not whining, only observing)
  8. Here is a good Video as well.. Pretty funny too. BTW - My Wife laughed and liked the commercial she saw on The Military Channel last night.
  9. hehehe....I had the same problem, until I held the ALT Button down for longer than a second. Then it goes away.Maybe there is a setting to lower the time it needs to be held somewhere out there.
  10. Well, here is mine. It says mine is in the top 5%. Guess that 2gb Ram helps out. Also the 9600xt is a pretty decent card back in the day.Athlon XP 3000+ Barton Core o/c to 2.315ATI radeon 9600xt 500/2972 gb RamWinXP Prohttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/158922.jpg
  11. I ran that thing last week and I was full right. Running it is one thing, sliders are another. :-)Oh yeah, it says you have to use IE as well.Keep in mind, I see this tool as a Marketing tool at best. Point, I have a 256mb 9600xt, and I don't see that vid card as an off the chart performance FSX Card, hmmm. ;-) Regards,Joe
  12. Hi Larry,I'm hoping for a similar experience once I load mine up. I plan to buy it this weekend. After running the demo, I feel a bit confident I'll like what I see also based upon the type of flying I do in real life. I do plan some computer upgrades, but I'm not sure the direction I plan on going.Right Now, 2gb ram, ATI 9600xt 256mb o/c, Athlon xp 3000+ o/c slightly to 2.403.I plan on a dual install, FS9 and FSX, so I can keep flying my favorites, and then I'll see which ones I want to migrate over.Good to hear it works for ya, I'm hoping for the same next week.Regards,Joe
  13. Pete, With Vista, It's not speculation as they have released their license agreement. Go read it for yourself, and take note about the ONgoing Validation, and what happens to the OS, when it fails for whatever reason. No Revalidation, it will allow only limited acces to Vista. And guess what.. With Vista, there are limits, and that is a FACT, not speculation.Regards,Joe
  14. I think people should have the option of knowing a license agreement before they buy a product.Even Taildragger was not clear using words like MAY Reactivate, thus leaving that open to interpretation, by whom, MSFT of course....And I also am of the opinion that FSX will not be a problem with reactivation, but the door is open, and the future we see is the scheme for Vista. The question is how many inconveniences is one willing to put up with before it becomes an intrusion. And of course using words like MAY instead of WILL is about the biggest spin move I've observed in a while. And I also don't think there is anything wrong with questioning these schemes. So when you say what is wrong with people, I say what is wrong with questioning tactics one may not agree with?Oh and by the way, at least the EULA's are now avaialble before purchase.Gave me a whole new approach to Installing the VISTA RC. Decline for now.
  15. Murray, there is a huge change and that change is gaining huge momentum over the last few days since MSFT released their Vista Licensing Scheme. I encourage you to read up on it in the Hangar Chat Thread here:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho..._id=28765&page=So no need to speculate, go read the license scheme. It will shut you down.
  16. I would not assume FSX License is even close to Vista. They are a totally different licensing scheme.Vista will basically shut down with an invalid validation, and only allow web browsing for about an hour from what I have read.Read that again, Vista will only allow limited use with an invalidation, and it even says from time to time it will call home, and validate on its own. This thing is going to blow up huge unless MSFT addresses it and soon. With 6 different versions of Vista, and multiple licensing schemes, one really has to read them to understand they have us over a barell..Big Time.....
  17. Yep, I also saw some things on that.IMHO, since DX10 Hardware is so far out, and DX10 software is upon us, the masses an dthe software dev's ar enot willing to wait for technology hardware to catch up.With this coming, maybe there is no need to get Vista in its 650 different variations. ;-)
  18. >You are allowed to install FSX on two PCs. When you activate>your copy the software looks at your hardware configuration.>If it ever detects a drastic change it will prompt you to>reactivate. (Note that common tasks like swapping video cards>or adding memory should not cause a re-activation.) If an>activation attempt is unsuccessful you can all a support>number and explain your situation and they may grant you a new>activation.MAY GRANT YOU A NEW ACTIVATION....With all honesty that is the rub.No one defines drastic change by specific component....hard Drive.....Vid Card.....MOBO....Same MOBO, newer Processor, think Socket 939.....I see FSX Much like WInXP... Pain in the backside but a necessary step when upgrading to call them and re-activate. I feel sorry for the pour soul on the other end if they ever deny me if I upgrade hardware, cause they will get an earful. ;-)I think the real concerns will be in a few months when Vista hits the street. I know that is beyond the relm of what you can comment on, but if you can get someone from Vista Team to comment on the Hnagar Chat Thread about Vista, it may belay some concerns others like me have with regards to buyiong FSX, and then upgrading our system to Vista, and then DX10 card, New Hard drive, etc.....To be honest, as I read somewhere else, my advice would be to tell the MS Activation guy you had a hardware failure every time you upgraded. Heck if they can't seem to discern an exact definition of "DEVICE" as it relates to a license scheme, I have no problem considering any upgrade I do a Hardware Failure every time. And if a component of my system fails to run a program to my satisfaction, I will reocncile that in my head as a hardware failure. In other words, I'm not worried about FSX at all, but Vista.... Thoughts,JoeHangar Chat Vista Thread: http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho..._id=28765&page=zdNet Blog, real concerns here: http://blogs.zdnet.com/Bott/?p=156http://blogs.zdnet.com/Bott/index.php?p=158And allegedly, a Vista Team Blogger will write something on the license scheme as pointed out here:http://www.windows-now.com/blogs/robert/ar...ng-Shortly.aspx
  19. Maybe a clarification coming as pointed out here.....http://www.windows-now.com/blogs/robert/ar...ng-Shortly.aspx
  20. >Hi Randall,>>Yes, I can reinstall 100 times (just pulling that number out>of the air) on my current machine. Then I can upgrade my>computer and install 100 more times on that machine. Then I>upgrade my CPU and motherboard. That counts as a third machine>and the install will prevent you from activating again. I>think? That is the answer I'm waiting for. I'm hoping I'm>wrong. I wouldn't like the idea of having to re-purchase>another key at full price to go though the process again.>>Now, granted some here will happily run their FSX on only one>or two "machines" during the life of this version. I>understand that. But there are others who upgrade their>equipment on a fairly regular basis and this could be a>problem. Especially coupled with the possiblity of Vista>having the same activation scheme.....Umm, Windows Vista has a totally different License SCHEME, and yes it is a scheme after my review of the License. We have an interesting thread about Vista over here in Hangar Chat:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho..._id=28765&page=I suggest you all read it, as well as follow some of the links in it. (Please keep in mind the license scheme for Vista is VERY Different than FSX)I would also be very surprised to see any comment from MS on this.(Vista Scheme). I don't think they want milions of hobbyists who do upgrades like we do to run their product understanding their licensing scheme. But we're a smart bunch eh?BTW - if you think the licensing scheme with FSX is goofy, (which I think it's actually fine and mimics xp to a certain extent), wait until you get a load of Vista's license with the word DEVICE Occuring 67 times, and then good luck defining device as it relates to you changing certain UNNAMED Compononets which may require you to BUY ANOTHER BOX OF VISTA...... Oh and Two procesors, too?????Try that one on for size.....Regards,Joe
  21. >Another good>article,http://blogs.zdnet.com/Bott/index.php?p=158This gets uglier and uglier...That and the thread about FSX being installed twice does not excite me in the least.I think what it comes down to is this suggestion which I read somewhere else.."Paraphrased"If you have to call Microsft everytime you buy a new "device", hard drive, vid card, memory, motherboard, processor, etc... Just tell them everytime it was because of a hardware failure.I see lawsuits in their future with regards to Vista, if they deny reactivating someones OS. Or FSX for that matter.Choice or no choice, they need to respect the LEGAL consumer. It's bad enough they think six versions of Vista is a good thing.... That is about the dumbest idea I have read about their impending release of Vista. It's bad enough they release FSX and imply it will run better on Vista with a DX10 card that cannot even be bought yet. Guess what, that may be a second device, who knows. Next....Yeppers, hardware failure will always be my line. if they want to screw around defining "device" as they have, I can surely screw around right back by my own definition of harware failure when I upgrade.Thoughts???Regards,Joe
  22. >In FS2004 I used to fly in multyplayer mode on FSHOST>servers. In FSX it seems that I can only connect to Gamespy.>Or am I wrong? (I hope)>>Jozef K. >>I found the thread over at FSHost that addresses this topic.http://www.chocolatesoftware.com/forum/index.php?topic=546.0While I don't have FSX yet, this topic is of great interest with regards to the annual RTW (Round The World) Race between the three forums race teams.I have read a few threads regarding multiplayer here, but I don't plan to chime in fully until I buy FSX Deluxe and have the opportunity to see what we need to do for this years race.I'm sure it's on others minds as well across the three forums that participate, as a couple things I've read do not exactly excite me thus far. (Not being able to change planes without pausing, etc...)Relying on Gamespy as a server does not excite me in the least, as keeping the kiddies and trouble makers out of the MP will be a challenge if that session is listed on GameSpy Network, etc.... Stay tuned on this one I guess...Hope this helps,Joe
  23. Hi all,I read the whole thread, and I don't think losing car keys and replacing them applies here. I don't feel we are talking about losing our Vista DVD disks here. Nor would car inspections apply, IMHO, as you don't have to get a new inspection when you change your alternator nor purchase new software for your car because you changed both your alternator and bought a new car battery. (Picture more amps and starting power) Same with Choice. Yes I have a choice, but when MS relases a product that will allegedly run more fetures on DX10 cards which are not even out now, if Vista comes out first, and I upgrade, and then I upgrade further to a New Vid card or HD, or MB, or Processor, my only choice is to keep inferior hardware to avoid a new license. That concerns me a little. Here is what I am concerned about. And maybe there is no cause for concern, I'm not sure.I am concerned when the MS License which is here:http://download.microsoft.com/documents/us...1a72651b7a3.pdfWhen it talks about "DEVICE". The word device occurs 67 times in that license. Here are some of the interesting ones:1) "b. License Model. The software is licensed on a per copy per device basis."2) "2. INSTALLATION AND USE RIGHTS. Before you use the software under a license, you must assign that license to one device (physical hardware system). That device is the
