  1. Somehow I lost the puff of smoke from the tires on landing. Somebody Help! Thanks.Abe
  2. Hi Carl,I posted many times in reply to LARGE LCD concerns. Here I am again praising the LARGER sizes. I have a Westinghouse 37" and a Dell 27" running at 1920x1080 and 1920x1200 respectively. I have a 47" LCD westinghouse which will replace the Dell or it might be added as a 3rd monitor. The view is unbelievable, the panel distortion is very MINIMAL.Go for it.......Abe
  3. Alex, good to hear that camaraderie should exist between us simmers.I should have explained early on how I use my monitors. I never had less than 2 monitors for a very long time. I started with two 19", progressed to two 21" then added a 3rd smaller, 17". Now I have the 37" and the 27".My flight scenarios vary. Long and short scenic trips, adventures, difficult landings, challenging mountains....etc.... I've been a geography buff ever since I was a little boy and that continued onto my adulthood. Got my private pilot license many moons ago. My aspirations to be an airline pilot were dashed because my eyes could not qualify. So, for the best thing I could do, was join TWA as a purser then Service Manager on mostly L1011's and 747SP's. That allowed me to fly where the airline pilots fly.Back to earth and simming. I use the larger monitor (now 37" progressing to a 47") essentially for one view only my aircraft in spot view, I add the panel view to it at the same time, or display each separately. Of course I do other views depending on my whims. On my 2nd monitor, I put a potpourri of things. An essential map, mappoint or streets, linked to FSX with xconnect, I like to see my exact location at all times. I add a full panel or parts of a panel. Sometimes I add navigational charts, or even look at some old charts that were discarded and given to me during my flying days. As you can see that the 2nd monitor should have lots of real estate to accept all that JUNK (nice junk, though).Going back to the main monitor, I always enjoy a simple panoramic scenery view and nothing else, zooming in and out....slowly and hopefully gracefully.I hope that would give you an idea why I like my setup the way it is. But, Alex, I always maintain an open mind. Thanks for listening.Abe
  4. Alex, I have no doubt that you got the MATH and EXPLANATION on your side. What I think is, it's a matter of PREFERENCE. I do realize that multi-monitors has that beautiful cineramic view. But it also, IMHO, has its distractions....the separations between monitors. The closest thing to a perfect marriage (LOL), between your setup and mine is a demo I have seen in January at CES (Consumer Electronic Show) in Las Vegas. It was a Large monitor, forgot the specs, that curved around giving an almost 180
  5. Thanks guys. Great ideas, I will check them all and report back.Abe
  6. There is NO WAY you can convince me that OBTRUSIVE, multi-bezel separations scenes are more pleasant to the eyes than a ONE LARGE CONTINUOUS FLAWLESS scene, just like the windshield of my car UNINTERRUPTED. Right now I am using a 37" for my primary display and a second monitor of 27" as my odds and ends. I am betting that my future setup with a 47" would be still more exciting."Once you've used multi mons for both simming AND many other tasks there's no going back!!"This is true. Bear in mind, LARGE real estate can be subdivided into MANY things.Abe
  7. Been using a 37" and a 27" running at 1920x1080 and 1920x1200 respectively. Getting a 47" in a week..........simple, the BIGGER the BETTER.
  8. Sometimes I take a SCENIC flight for short distances and sometimes I take flights for fairly long distances. Usually when I start up a flight everything looks nice, sharp and crispy, even starting out in KLAX.However, when I fly fast, above 500 mph, the terrain becomes fairly blurry and unpleasant to the eye. I usually have my SCENERY COMPLEXITY and AUTOGEN DENSITY set on VERY DENSE. I found out that in order to recapture my initial sharpnes all I have to do is change the setting.....only one, either the SCENERY or the AUTOGEN. It does not matter whether I go from VERY DENSE to EXTREME or vice versa. Apparently that REFRESHES the screen. For me that works just fine. Not a permanent cure, but it beats flying in blurriness for an extended time.If you have not tried it, give it a shot. If you have other ideas, I would appreciate them.Thanks.Abeq6850, 4gigs, abit 35 pro, ati 2900xt hd, XPPRO and VISTA 64
  9. Eric, my 37" is a Westinghouse MONITOR. My 47" is a Westinghouse also but it is a full-fledged HDTV which of course I will use as a monitor. I've been using it as a TV for less than a week, I am very happy with it, but I am definitely going to use it for FSX.Abe
  10. "Gee Chris are you sure of that? I was just told over at Flightsim.com that a cheap 19
  11. I have a 37" and a 27" running at 1920x1080 and 1920x1200 respectively. Soon to add a 47" running at 1920x1080. The possible stretch of the panel is very MINIMAL. The view is OUT OF THIS WORLD!!FS9 and FSX.Abe
  12. I am using a single ATI radeon HD 2900XT....Jack, when it comes to monitors.....go BIG.....the display is just FANTASTIC!!!Abe
  13. Cannot explain anything other than I've been using a 37" and a 27" running at 1920x1080 and 1920x1200 respectively with DVI connections. Soon to add or replace with a 47" with HDMI connection using a DVI-HDMI adapter.
  14. <>That's easily solved. FS Earth uses Google Earth. I use it in both FS9 and FSX. And FS Navigator never told you what city you were flying over anyway. It only contained aeronautical information - not geographical.I use both MAPPOINT and STREETS in conjunction with Xconnect, displayed on my 2nd monnitor. You can choose any mapping detail you want and know your exact location at all times.
  15. Been using FS9/FSNAV combo for FSX flight plans for a long time. Works great.

  17. Would appreciate any help in using the best ATI CATALYST setup.Thanks.Abe
  18. Check my post in this page....how much of a hit.......I use 1920x1080 and 1920x1200 ....both work just fine.Abe
  19. Thanks Jim.I had the same thought about the replacement of the Dell but wasn't sure.As far as the third monitor. In the past, I used a very old PCI card. However, I realize that now it is completely different. My options would be to get a 2nd ATI 2900 or get a pair of a different card altogether. On the other hand, with so much REAL ESTATE, 47" and 37", I can manage to display quite a few things without running out of space. I'll just take it a step at a time. One more thing, the 47" monitor(TV) does not have a DVI connection. I have to use a DVI-HDMI adapter......Any drawbacks? Thanks.Abe
  20. My system:Windows XP Pro3.07 gigahertz Intel Core2 Extreme Q68504096 kilobyte secondary memory cacheABIT IP35 PROATI Radeon HD 2900 XTDELL 2707WFP [Monitor] 27" running 1920x1200Westinghouse 37" 1920x1080I am thinking about replacing my Dell 27" with a Westinghouse 47"How much of a FPS rate would I lose? What if I keep the Dell and add the 47" as a third monitor?Would appreciate any insight or suggestions.Thanks.Abe
  21. Sherm,I am all for using acronis or any other backup software. But I find that using a simple COPYING of PARTIAL or TOTAL drive content is more reliable and efficient. I have five Sata drives, 4 internal, 1 external. I use simple FOLDERS to copy my backups into. Never had a problem.Abe
  22. I've been renaming aircraft folders to suit me for both FS9 and FSX for a long time.................never had a problem.
  23. Got a Westinghouse 37" @ 1920x1080 and a Dell @ 1920x1200, and as soon as I make up my mind, I'll be adding a 3rd possibly larger than 50". Bigger is better, if everything is working right!!!
