  1. Interesting. I read about the curved Earth issue but if the effect is only 2-3 feet over the usual airport length then that should not be a major problem. The fix would be raising the airport a few feet?Shez
  2. Sounds good. Now let me go look for that cheque book...Shez
  3. OK have been out of action trying to optimize FSX and it is time to get back to scenery design again...Not sure what users are reporting as problems with FS9 scenery in FSX but I noticed that the main issue appears to be ground tearing which means default ground poking through the photoreal and AFW designed polygons. It appears that the main fix for this should be a flatten in the FSX 'language'. Is this done with the shp2vec tool? Is this contained in the FSX SDK? What else have you gurus figured out which could help in conversion of the sceneries? Thanks for any help.ShezP.S. Where is Arno?
  4. I have been debating the purchase of ASv6 but have held off because I want frame rate friendly clouds. What is the performance of clouds with ASv6 compared to say Chris Wills FPS friendly clouds? I assume ASv6 is compatible with FSX?ThanksShez
  5. Try and use your trim to make small corrections if needed. I find that this helps in FS, not sure if it is prescribed for real flying...Shez
  6. I have mentioned my current problem with my AMD X800Pro on this forum. Only in FS2004/FSX it freezes the comp from time to time when it is under stress with texture loading or something (sometimes no cause can be seen). I have not been able to figure the reason out. Tried numerous things.Question: I almost always run FS with the card over-clocked. Do you think the card may have had its life shortened by this and there is now a malfunction which freezes the operation?Shez
  7. Thanks Daren, let me try the FSW clouds and see if they work.Shez
  8. Are there any clouds out there of lower res similar to the FSW clouds which can be used with FSX? Can the FSW clouds be used in FSX?ThanksShez

    FSX issues

I figured out the problem on another thread. My camera.cfg file was blank for some reason. I copied the one from the root FSX folder and the views are OK now. They are great in fact!I have not checked the weather from the 2d panel but I assume it would be OK now. Will let you know if not.FSX is really impressive! It will be perfect when Squawkbox4 can get me on to VATSIM...Thanks for replying constructively.Shez
  10. Thanks Loyd, it is all OK now after I copied the FSX root camera.cfg to the my documents folder.Views are excellent!Shez
  11. Question: My camera.cfg is blank. Any idea why? My installation is on another partition.I also don't have an outside view. Very weird.Shez

    FSX issues

The question about no weather showing in 2d panel still stands. Not sure if anyone else is facing this? The VC is fine.Shez
  13. Just installed FSX, it is a beauty! Have already fiddled around to achieve an initial nirvana of 15-40 fps (sparse agen, no AI/animations, all sliders max, no shadows, no bloom). Now to install the fps fixes now for the agen. Now here go the strange issues,1) How the heck do you get the VC to appear?2) If you turn on real weather you can see it in spot view but not in cockpit???3) How does one view the aircraft from all angles in spot view? The camera view is only a camera stuck to the wing. Where is the FS2004 option of being able to adjust spot view distance and view angle?4) How do I pan the view in 2d cockpit for heaven's sake? :)Appreciate if someone can help.Shez
  14. I checked the fans and everything is working well. I did notice that the sound card was set too close to the video card so I moved it to another slot to give the video card more air to breathe.I did some adjustments and found that by reducing the AA from 6X to 4X seems to have helped in bringing down the temps. Maybe this reduces the load on the GPU?Shez
  15. Thanks Allcott, I guess you are telling me what I suspected. I think the overclocking might need to come down first of all. Then let's work from there.Shez
  16. Guys,I have an ATI X800Pro running on a AMD64 3000, 1 GB RAM. I use the latest Omega drivers and Tray Tools. I have set up the profiles so that FS2004 runs on AA6/AF16, 1280x960, O/C 540/520, and I live in a tropical warm weather country (although the room has aircon). When I am running FS I sometimes have the computer hang suddenly. I recently had a look at the hardware monitor and I noticed that the GPU temperature spikes up just before this event. My usual GPU temp is around 50-55 degs C (warm climate) but during this event the temp goes to 65-73 degs C! It appears that at this point the card shuts down and freezes the comp. Interestingly the Environment temp continues to stay stable. The issue is I cannot isolate why this event occurs because the circumstances within FS that this occurs are not uniform. I have seen that it has occured when in view mode and panning the outside of the aircraft. However, on long flights I have seen this occur even in cockpit mode. It appears to be an event in FS where the GPU undertakes an operation which causes it to go into intense activity thus overheating it. No other program does this.Any ideas what might be happening?Shez
  17. It looks like there will have to be some workarounds and new tools to adjust the FS9 stuff to FSX. The good thing I see from your investigations is that the FS9 Bglcomp can be used in FSX. I guess it was too much to expect the FSX BGLComp to be compatible with FS9 stuff.Shez
  18. Jim,Thanks for the insights. So is there any way to flatten the ground at 1m resolution I wonder? If not then the only option is to abandon all ground scenery projects and concentrate on buildings only. The other issue is with your comment on the FS9 AFCADs. If these do not work then it could very difficult to do scenery for AI.Anyway, these issues have been tackled before on previous releases. I am sur ethe gurus will work on it. I also think ACES are more responsive and will help out.RegardsShez
  19. Thanks Arno, sounds like I may not have to spend the rest of the year doing fixes after all :)Shez
  20. Interesting, so this is in FS2004 then. Looks like some rogue polygon.Shez
  21. Jan,Although I do not see what you are pointing out (not clear from pic), but from what I understand certain scenery attributes will not work in FSX like solid colour lines.Shez
  22. Thanks Planeman. It looks like elevation issues first of all and issues with the SCASM roads (easily fixed). I am sure someone will come up with the flatten for FSX one day. It also looks like the GMAX ground is not showing. Might also be flatten related.Otherwise the biggest issue I would assume would be fps related.Shez
  23. Dick,Good to hear that. Here is what I want to find out, do the following work in FSX,1) SCASM ground polys?2) GMAX ground polygons?3) SCASM ground scenery etc.?4) Library object file formats? MDL formats?Has anyone tried to use any of my scenery (KONT, KBUR, etc.) in FSX? That might give me a clue as to how much work might be required. If it is going to be a radical amount of rejigging I might abandon it all together...ThanksShez
