  1. If you have XGraphics installed and let it create a initial_backup of default FSX files (hopefully before an add-on changed them) you can copy back the original spotlight.bmp (May 12, 2006 - 42.7KB) file from here:Windows Vista:C:\Users\$USERNAME\AppData\Local\HiFi\XGraphics\backups\initial_backup\textureWindows XP:C:\Documents and Settings\$USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\HiFi\XGraphics\backups\initial_backup\textureRegards,
  2. JD,Speaking of voices, in RC4, if I have both "Interact with AI" and "Chatter" checked, I seem to almost always have a lot more chatter sounds and only every once in while, will I hear interaction with AI. If I only have AI checked, then I hear all AI comms as expected. This is especially noticable when I'm on the clearance or ground channels. In RC5, I would like a way to raise the priority of Interact-with-AI over chatter (but still have both checked) so that all AI comms is heard before chatter will be played. Maybe a "Primary" checbox next to each selection so that when both are selected, you designate which comms (AI or chattter) will have the higher priority? Also, in RC5, will we be notified at a longer distance of potential traffic conflicts near our own airspace? In RC4, I'm usually notified at only 1 nuatical mile or so of a pending issue. 0h, and how about issuing deviations for traffic off our current FP?And another thing, over the years of RC4, it seems that as CPU's have become much faster, the amount of time to meet a requirement or issuance has become shorter. In other words, these days with a 4GHz CPU, I'll get all three warning for altitude deviations in less than a minute or so where as it seemed like it used to take much longer back in the Pentium4 days. Maybe it's me, but I swear the audio/cycle time has become shorter on these faster CPU's.Regards,
  3. LOL, he said, "real" world, not "your" world! I'd like this feature though too please! :)
  4. Yup, virtually all MS Windows operating systems if you read the "Systems Requirments" (big) paragraph listing all the OS's 1/2-way down the page.

  6. Do yourself a favor, if you're squeezing all the peformance you can out of a box for FS, and you must be, otherwise why would anyone bother with all the trouble and increase in potential of raid corruption/failures and the increased need of backups? Get yourself a dedicated hardware raid controller and shutdown the onboard raid controllers to free up CPU cycles. You'll get better peformace with the 256k stripe only offered on hardware raid cards, and at the same time, cut CPU overhead.I finally took the plunge after years of swapping b/w single ACHI drive modes and raid-0 setups using the onboard controllers. There is no comparison and the prices are dropping to a very reasonable price. The other advantage is I can easily move/migrate the card foward as I upgrade/rebuild CPU's. 7. I've seen this on my LCD every once in a while and agree that switching b/w window and full-screen mode cleans up the screen, but IIRC, also switching b/w 2D and VC also does the job as well.Regards,
  8. I've always used "TrafficTool" from Pete Dowson's (FSUIPC) forum. It works locally or across a WideFS connection with all versions of Flightsim. It runs in either "Airborne" or "Ground" mode which is easily selectable from the File menu.Direct download: http://fsuipc.simflight.com/beta/TrafficLook.zipListed near the bottom of this forum: http://forums.simflight.com/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=55488Here is a screen shot of Atlanta (Airborne) with my WoAI and custom collections running.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/194681.jpg
  9. Hey Stuart,No, in fact it didn't work. When I ran the load-manager, I got a side-by-side error message that pop'd up on the screen. There must be something more to the load-manager than just the executable and copying it over to the remote PC. Unless PMDG can elaborate on what it might mean, it's probably a no-go for my setup. But, the Flight1 registry repair tool did in fact put the correct path, pointing across my network share to the FSX PC, which worked great for my WinXP-x64 PC's as I wouldn't have thought to put the FSX UNC path under the Wow6432Node part of my registry.Regards,
  10. Prior to the release of the MD-11 and its associated instructions to set the momentum variable to 0 in the cameras.cfg file, I used to set all momentum affects values to 0 in the fsx.cfg file, which of course affects all FSX aircraft. Because I haven't had a chance to try my TrackIR with the MD11 VC yet, I can only wonder if going back to editing my fsx.cfg file might resolve this issue.Regards,
  11. Some add-ons I used to have on the WideFS PC in FS9 used to write the FS9 path to the local registry on the widefs-client machine, but instead of the path beginning with a drive-letter, it would begin with the UNC name of the FS machine, pointing across the network to the FS-share.Try this, on the FSX pc, note in the registry the exact key and path-string for FSX. Then, make sure FSX is properly shared-out to the local network and you can access that share from the widefs pc, with write permissions (write a "test" file across the network with notepad or something). Then, on the widefs-client pc, make a new registry entry exactly like the one on the FS PC, but change the path to work across the network, pointing to the FS-share.So for example, if the FS PC has a hostname of "GamePC" and the FSX-share is something like "fsx", then change the path in the registry on the wide-FS PC from something like:(GamePC w/FSX)HKLUSoftwareMicrosoft GamesFSXPath = C:MS FlightSimulator Xto (WideFS-Client PC)HKLUSoftwareMicrosoft GamesFSXPath = GamePCfsxThat should get you going. These paths are examples because I am at work at the moment and can not lookup or test the exact notation. Heck, you might even be able to use one of the FSX-path repair tools on the WideFS PC and point it across the newtork to your FSX-share and it might create the new registry entry for you. What I don't know if will work, because of the surely unique PMDG memory coding, if a copy of WideFS on the network will allow you to use the load-manager in a "live" environment with FSX running on one machine, and the load manager seeing the actual weights (live) on the wide-cleint PC. Maybe the simconnect-client (as used for ASX) will port this memory over and that can be used instead. Obviously, you must have the FSX deluxe version to setup a simconnect-client network. Something to test; otherwise, the load manager will only write to the aircraft.cfg files from the network PC and not be able to monitor the MD-11 during a FSX session. I will try this tonight when I get home, unless someone beats me to it, and report back here.Goood luck...Regards,
  12. Hi all,Is it just me or do others find that when starting a automatic-profile descent at the TOD, the plane ususally nose-dives somewhere around 4 or 5K/min for the first 10K feet or so? In my case, this is especially true when coming out of a cruise level in the upper 30's. I always have to add at least 2/3 flight-spoilers just to get back in the descent-path for what feels like, an abnormally long period of time. It usually catches backup to the proper descent-path when the descent continues on down through the upper 20's (near the point where FS historically switches from Mach to IAS). Yes, I am inputting the descent-winds on the PERF-DESC page and I don't have this problem in the Queen. It seems that if others are seeing this too (please post if you do)that the descent profile logic might need a bit of investigating in regards to the upper-part of the descent-profile.Thanks for considering,
  13. Paul,Many thanks to you and Ashton for the these fine textures and the installer. I just installed them myself and they indeed do a lot to improve the railroads. Also, Ashton's installation just doesn't get any easier. Thanks again,
  14. As a long-time user of both FS Real Time and the FSUIPC sync feature prior to that, I must warn prospective users. If you are a fan of collecting and installing a bunch of AI as do I, there is one draw back of the these time features. As the time is corrected, it can cause havoc with AI accumulating in packs of 100's or even thousands of grouped aircraft when the time is changed. I could watch this on a given live map such those included with FS Flight Keeper or FS Commander. All of the sudden, or especially when coming out of advance time modes such as 2x or 4x, your FPS would tank and all of the sudden you would see large clusters of AI off in the distance. Being such a collector of pax and cargo AI airlines, I have stopped using these time-sync features more than a year ago and have not experienced the formation of AI cluster ever since. This was noted several FS versions ago by Reggie Fields as I discussed it with him at length when I discoverd this issue on my machine. Internal FS time is close enough for my purposes.Regards,
  15. That's cool, and thanks for considering. To elaborate on # 2 for a moment, I was arriving into the KATL airpsace last night and using the FLCON3.MOL arrival. The 40nm fix (dirty) dictates an exact crossing restriction of 14000ft whether landing eastbound or westbound. Obviously with RC, the standard close-side restriction was 11000ft as the 26R approach was in use. As this seems to be the case more times than not when following a STAR, I would love to have a way to automatically or manually designate the 40nm restirction to match a given STAR procedure, either before or during a flight.http://flightaware.com/resources/airport/K...ON+THREE+(RNAV)Thanks again for the best ATC around.
  16. I've seen this a couple of times as well lately and what I think is happening is the wind-smoothing in either ASX or FSUIPC can sometimes cause havoc on the RC approach selection because we've slowed the rate-of-change down so much to fix the mirade of FSX weather issues. For instance, the wind being at 180/12 before contacting approach but still changing direction (slowly because of the smoothing processes)and then shortly after, the wind steadies at 350/9 after RC has already made the approach decision, which causes RC to change the approach if necessary. I recently changed the FSUIPIC wind smoothing option to 2sec per deg/kt rate of change (bottom box) which seems to have helped.
  17. Hi JD,It's been a while since I've posted here but as always, I've been using RC4 with FSX without any noted issues. I wasn't sure if there was a RC5 "Wish List" so I thought I would add a couple here.1) In RC5, please add the ability to detect and allow us to manually select which sound-device RC5 uses for its audio output. This is a cool feature in FSX that allows me to select my USB headphones as the audio-only device and having ATC dedicated to the headphones is a great feature that I would love to have in RC5.2) Please give us a way to set the 40nm altitude/speed descent restriction after importing the flightplan. Maybe have an "auto" in this option that leaves the restrictions operate is they do now, but in this same field, allow us to designate the restriction manually. A lot of us spend a lot of time studying and using STAR procedures which usually have a restriction already noted at the 40nm fix. Now, I understand the discussion regarding how often SID/STARS are used in real life, but many of us enjoy the planning and execution of detailed plans and to be able to incorporate DP/ARR procdures in RC5 would definitly be a bleasing. One solution in my mind would be if RC5 starting using monthly NavData procedures like many of the better payware aircraft and thus allow RC (ATC) the ability to offer/order the use of a particular DP/ARR prodedure. To be honest, after many hundreds of hours with RC3 & RC4, ATC has become too predictable and I need a way to mix it up little, but at the same time allow us to use our FMCs and flightplanners to fullest extent possible with DP/ARR procedures, if we so desier.3) Give the user a pre-flight option to choose whether to enable or disable the 250kt/10Kft speed restriction anywhere, not just Europe. I know this has been discussed before, but I firmly beleive that giving the user the power to customize RC to their personal expectations is a good thing. As always, still using RC after all these years and I just wanted to throw my two cents in to add future enhancments.Regards,
  18. FWIW, I have the payware version of Driver Cleaner .NET and it's updated almost weekly, especially after new driver versions are released. It was the original diver-cleaner and still works like a champ although I don't know if I would have paid for it if a freeware version like driver sweeper was around at the time.Regards,
  19. Is there a Boeing FMC equivelent to the "Descend Now" button on the MD-11 FMC? I checked the most logical place on the FMC, PERF -> DESCENT page to no avail. Thanks for a clue...Regards,
  20. Using FSB, here is how I am getting reasonable results. In the load manager, set your desired config and payload and note the combined total of pax & cargo. A fully loaded "mixed" config MD-11 comes out to about 118760 lbs of payload. Now back in FSB, before building a FP, change the aircraft type to the respective MD-11 GE or PW variant (Aircraft -> Aircraft). Change the aircraft "Emtpy WT" box to 273373 lbs for the Pax version or 250996 lbs for the cargo version. Change the Payload WT box to the number you noted from the load-manager, in my case 118760 lbs. Leave all other boxes as they are and go back to "routes" and build your plan.Once the plan had beeen built and exported, change to the "Navlog" tab at the bottom of FSB. Near the top of the report, note the fuel "REQD" amount as this will be your total (block) fuel load. Once you'v loaded-up the big-dog in FSX, load your fuel either through FMC or the PMDG-menu. FWIW, I'm finding the default MD-11 PW model in FSB to be a little more accurate whether I'm using the GE or PW variants. Also, both of these models are editable in the fb_aircraft.cfg file in the root of the FSB installation.Good luck...
  21. >FSB and FSC DO NOT alert you to one-way airways, and they willJust to clarify a bit, FSB will display one-way airways. When you ctrl-leftclick an airway, the pink arrows dictate the direction of travel along that path. Now, how accurate or up-to-date this information is, is definitly open to discussion.
  22. I also have been enjoying Jim's PA scenery for FSX and wish to thank him as well.Jim,If you're so inclined to acccept request for other PA towns, I'd like to request my hometown of Williamsport (KIPT). Thanks for considering.Regards,
  23. Yup, me too, no pause at TOD but it did once when I walked away from the cockpit. I'm wondering if it has to do with the lower altitdue target (something lower than cruise) already being set in the MCP. I wonder if I left the MCP at cruise level as programed in the MCDU, if it then will puase at TOD?Regards,
  24. Don't count on it. I went from a 8800GTS(640) to a 9800GTX(512) and saw very little difference. You have to couple the GPU and the OC'd CPU to the same capabilites. It's a balancing act to get everything in sync. The only thing I'm wondering now is, if I upgrade to a 1GB GPU because I run 1920x1280, if that'll help, especially with distant textures. Such as the 280(1GB) cards.
