  1. The majority of my flights are prop GA, so they tend to be 30 minutes to an hour long, at the most. When I do fly the airliners or jets on longer flights, I tend to hit the 4x time speedup throughout the flight.
  2. You don't need those expensive monitors and glasses. Just do what I do: Quickly blink your eyes alternately. With practice you can attain remarkable 3D depth and dramatically enhance your FSX experience!
  3. On my old system, (Duo Core 6750, 4Gigs RAM, Nvidia 8800GT) I had no problems running the Carenado C337 Skymaster. Yet, in some sceneries, the Katana 4X would give me an OOM (out of memory) blue screen of death. I think Carenado strikes a good balance between FPS and fidelity of detail in the graphics. I agree wholeheartedly. A variety of well done pilot figures would be most welcomed. It would be interesting if a developer could come up with a program that allows one to "build" their own pilot. Or at the very least, provide several different options that one could select from.
  4. I think Carenado's pilots look the most realistic by far. Many other developers have "cartoon" looking pilot figures. But I can understand that they are done that way in order to save frame-rates. Not sure how Carenado does it, though. Sharp human graphics and great FPS. P.S. I'll take the "Sears Catalog" pilots over the "Hanna Barbera" ones, any day...
  5. It's definitely better but unfortunately it didn't eliminate it completely. I found that it's more noticeable when flying over water, as opposed to land. I had initially flown over the Seattle area (inland) and barely noticed it there but when I switched to South Florida and out over Miami Beach, it definitely came back to haunt me. (the tearing / undulating effect.) Back to the drawing board but definitely headed in the right direction. My next project is to somehow clear up the fish-eye lens effect that I have, when using the WideViewAspect set to True. It's next to impossible to judge distances correctly. Not to mention the fact that when moving the view in the VC, it gives the affect that I'm sliding away from the direction that I'm looking towards. (for example, when flying the C172, when looking towards the left, my reference point shifts to the right, and it appears as if I was sitting on the right seat.) But that's a whole different thread... Thanks again!
  6. Hi Jim, I think you are onto something. I switched the WideViewAspect to True and the scenery (external) views showed a significant improvement. I didn't notice any of the tearing / undulating that I had with it set to False. The VC interior, though, still showed the tearing but I think that because of the fish-eye view angle provided by the False setting, it's not as distracting. I thank you for pointing out that little setting difference, as I think I can work with the zoom/seat positions and come up with a spot that I can live with. Back to tweaking! (but I'm definitely closer to the goal!)
  7. Hi Paul, Just want to thank you for all of your help and time that you've put in with the DX10 project. It's truly appreciated. 8. I've got the same problem screen tears as well. I've followed Paul's guide to a "T" and while the sim looks amazing, the tearing is annoying enough to be a factor in staying with DX10. I did notice that the tearing found within the VC of the aircrafts is worse with the default C172, for some reason. It's considerably less with several of my payware airplanes, such as the Katana 4X and the Baytower RV7. But the exterior scenery will still appear to undulate like a wave, whenever I'm moving the view. Sometimes not much, sometimes very much. I'll continue experimenting and see if I can find a way to clear it up. Once you taste the DX10 visuals, it's hard to go back to DX9...
  9. I'm in need of upgrading my AI aircraft and have a few questions regarding MTX 5.4 for those of you that use it or have used it: 1. How are the MTX repaints compared to WOAI? (which I'm currently using.) WOAI's aircraft look very nice. But the pics that I've seen of the MTX aircraft appear to be less detailed than WOAI's. 2. Do they show any effects such as dropped flaps when landing, gear going up and/or down, etc.? 3. Is there a way of editing the flight plans? 4. Can it work in conjunction with WOAI? Thanks for your help!
  10. It's happened from time to time since FSX was released.
  11. I'm far from an expert, my friend! ;) Thank you for all of your help as well. As it's been posted many times, FSX in DX10 mode is really a new sim and should be considered as such. So we're slowly learning from the ground up as to what works best and what may not, just as we've done with DX9 mode, over the years. Thanks again! Alex
  12. Hi Paul, I'm using whatever is the latest/greatest version of driver and Inspector at the moment. I think perhaps the 460 may be taxed. I'll continue testing but an upgrade may be in order. Thanks for your help! Thank you, Alain! I'm looking forward to getting home and testing with your settings. Hopefully I can at least minimize the tearing and/or shimmering. Hi Steve, I actually did just that, starting with a clean FSX.cfg slate and slowly tweaking here and there. I've gotten to the point where most everything is looking and working ok except for the tearing and reflection shimmering. If I can cure those two, I'll be flying in DX10 mode permanently! Thanks again, guys!!
  13. I believe that the emergency vehicles may be found in some of the missions. I do remember a long time ago flying a mission where I had to fly a helicopter from Key West NAS to Opa Locka and on the way having to stop at an auto accident and pick up an injured person. I remember seeing the emergency lights of the vehicles. But I can't recall what vehicles were depicted. I'll need to refly that one.
  14. Alain, I noticed hardly any shimmering with the building/land reflections in the water, particularly those further away from the airplane. I'm getting some rather ugly shimmering with the reflections that are far away. Closer to the aircraft, it looks fine. Could you possibly share your Nvidia Inspector settings (if using an Nvidia card) and perhaps your FSX.cfg settings? I'm hoping there's a setting you use that I haven't discovered yet and could be the reason for the smoother reflections. I'm very close to permanently switching over to DX10 but the shimmering (along with the tearing) are the only things keeping me in DX9. The tearing being the major factor.
  15. Thank you, Oliver Ooi! Unfortunately, it now shows no rain for me. I'll test further with this tonight.
  16. Not sure if this has been mentioned or if it's just happening to me, but in DX10, I get the "curtain of rain" effect, where there's an invisible shield protecting my airplane from rain.
  17. Nice video! Do you have the Miami X 2012 scenery installed? I'm going to be tweaking further tonight as well. I'm thinking about starting with a fresh FSX.cfg and going from there. The one I currently use has the Bojote and Kostas tweaks, as well as others I may not even remember! :lol The water's glare in DX10 is something that I would get when using the ENB files. Very nice. I saw that you were "screen tearing free" in the video. If I can solve that on my system, I'll be pretty much moving to DX10 permanently.
  18. Hi Paul, not sure what you mean by "30 is set in FSX". Ah, do you mean the framerate inside FSX? Yes. I've also tried it at unlimited as well, just for testing, but went back to 30 as standard (with the 1/2 vsync in Inspector.)
  19. Steve, Jason and Paul, thanks for all of your help! I do have the 1/2 vsync setting set up in Inspector and run at full screen. The only time I go to windowed mode is when I have to fiddle with EZdok. I may have to look into MyTraffic 5.4 as well, once I'm able to solve the bigger problem (the tearing.) LOD settings are at the default 4.5. Shimmering is not too bad, though. I know we are very close to getting DX10 as THE standard FSX setup soon. Really looking forward to it! Thanks again, everyone!!
  20. Welcome to Florida! I am south of you in the Miami-Dade County area. Let me start by saying that there are some great freeware airports available for Florida, including a Port St. Lucie one as well, if not mistaken. Check the library for all available. From Pensacola in the tip of the panhandle to Tallahassee, Jacksonville, Daytona Beach, Greater Orlando area, Melbourne (just north of you) and Ft Lauderdale to the south. And on the West coast, Ft Walton Beach, Tampa/St Petersburg, Week's Air Museum, Ft Myers, Naples, and Everglades City. I know there are a ton more that I'm forgetting. If your system can handle it, I highly recommend the "MIami X 2012" addon which not only includes KMIA but Opa Locka and Kendall/Tamiami Airports, along with some amazing photoscenery and autogen of a big chunk of the County. It's got it's small quirks but I still recommend it if you fly in the area. It also works well with LatinVFR's KMIA, which is a fantastic looking airport. Framerate can be tough on older systems, though. I'm sure you'll be stretching flights to the Florida Keys as well, so I highly recommend the LatinVFR Key West scenery, which includes Boca Chica Naval Air Station. There's always the Bahamas to the East as well. My dream is that Orbx tackles South Florida, the Keys and the Bahamas... There are payware versions of Tampa and Ft Lauderdale available (which I don't have at the moment, though.) There's also a fun freeware called "Caribbean Seaplane Tours" which updates a lot of airports in the Keys and Bahamas. I use it for updating Ft. Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas (west of Key West), Isla Morada (in Key Largo) and Ocean Reef (just north of Key Largo), but it includes a lot of other spots as well.
  21. I'm running an Nvidia card (460) and utilizing the Inspector settings listed previously. The Good: 1. Frame rate has sky rocketed. 2. Better graphics throughout (sharper images). Even the screen text looks much clearer. (radio popup windows) 3. Cockpit shadows are looking good. The Bad: 1. I'm getting the image tearing still, even with vsync on. It's just too fustrating and is what has me going back to DX9 for the time being. 2. I use WOAI for airplane traffic and some of the airline textures are not showing up. All I'm getting on these are white planes. 3. The distance that autogen "pops up" is significantly closer. For example, with DX9, autogen buildings would pop up at a further distance from my airplane. With DX10, I need to be significantly closer for the same autogen to appear. Not sure if anyone else has experienced this, as I haven't seen it posted yet. 4. I do have some shimmering, particularly with addon airports, so that may be because they are not DX10 compliant. The toughest part is keeping track of the all of the changes when testing in DX10, in order to not lose my well working DX9 setup. ;)
  22. Thank you for your help, Luis! I'll definitely look into the Autogen Annotator and see if I can clean it up. Thanks again!
  23. Hello Luis, Thank you for your help! The scenery is the recently released "Miami 2012" scenery. It covers pretty much most of the greater Miami-Dade County area in South Florida. It's an amazing scenery in itself but I have noticed the problem with the trees and would love to "clear" those areas up. Here are a couple of pics showing the problems: I have also downloaded the Terrain Design program and will check it out as well. Thanks again!
