2. Greetings and Salutations All!As Captain Brad Marsh (Zapper - a realworld 737NG driver) is busy at the moment, I am posting on his behalf regarding another online tutorial some time in the near future with the subject of 'landings', ranging from fully automated to hand flying :DThe first tutorial will be specifically for the Pacific region, and those that can listen in at the same time, however rough dates and times need to be suggested.Probably the range of starting times will be from 0000z to 0900z on weekdays or from 0700z on weekends if I know Brad's preferences well enough (he might correct me).Personally, I prefer a Saturday evening from 0700z ;)Please post your preferred rough dates and times here. 3. Darn Philip did you have to give me away! The secret is that I'm PMDG's latest Beta tester that has already divulged insider information!Of course I'm just kidding, as somehow I don't think PMDG would choose me to be beta tester any time soon, but we can always dream!See you,Geoffrey Balean YSCBVirgin Blue Virtual - VOZ9211ZAB & SSY Observer (OBS)http://www.vozvirtual.org/images/pmdgforumsignature.pngMSN - gbalean@hotmail.comCaution! 4. Wow that was quick Randy! Note also that the cabin altitude is -50. Doesn't the cabin altitude in the 737 decrease to -300 for comfort before takeoff? I wonder why they made it -50 in this aircraft?Geoffrey Balean YSCBVirgin Blue Virtual - VOZ9211ZAB & SSY Observer (OBS)http://www.vozvirtual.org/images/pmdgforumsignature.pngMSN - gbalean@hotmail.comCaution! Greetings :)A link to this picture was posted in the VATPAC Forums, but I thought that this is such a great shot that it deserves to be recommended here!It might become useful should PMDG ever make the 717, of which I by the way would love to see them do, but please don't turn this into another love this love that post :DThe Link Is: http://www.airtran.com/info/aircrafts/photo_4.jspIt takes a while to load, and you'll need to move the sliders otherwise it looks a bit odd at first, but look at that detail in the shot!
Geoffrey Balean
Canberra, AU (YSCB)http://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg http://www.vozvirtual.org/images/pmdgforumsignature.pngCaution! 8. Hi Stefan,I don't know whether i posted it on here or what, but some time ago I made available a copy of a Virgin Blue 737 Yoke Checklist (off various photo sources). It's only a word document though, so not really any frilly bits, but it fits on a CH Yoke and I find it useful. Email me at NOSPAM_gbalean@emailme.com.au (without the 'NOSPAM_' bit ;)) if you're interested in this, but maybe you were referring to something else.Cheers,Geoffrey BaleanCanberra, AU (YSCB)http://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg http://www.vozvirtual.org/images/pmdgforumsignature.png"Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday. IAS v TAS

Greetings :)Heavily based on my training book ('The Complete Student Pilot Manual' by Val Dyson-Holland c 2000):IAS is linked with dynamic pressure, which is linked again to the aerodynamic forces produced on the aeroplane - if a certain amount of lift is produced at 240 kts at sea level, then the same amount of lift will be produced at 240 kts at FL220. IAS is independent of density.TAS is the actual speed of the aeroplane through the air, or the speed of the relative airflow past the aeroplane. At sea level IAS is the same as TAS, but as density decreases the difference between IAS and TAS increases. In zero wind conditions, TAS is equal to GS.For navigational purposes, though the book says that 'I'll be learning about the importance of TAS from a navigational point of view later in my training', you can calculate the ground speed by adding the average estimated wind component to the TAS.I hope this is the information you were after ;)Geoffrey BaleanCanberra, AU (YSCB)http://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg http://www.vozvirtual.org/images/pmdgforumsignature.png"Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday. 11. Hi :)Sorry I don't have a screenshot, however I can tell you that it isn't actually on the MCP but on the EFIS panel (the one directly to the left of the Course window, in between the MCP and the recall panel. The baro rotary switch is the top right rotary. If by the way you want to switch from Inches to Millibars, move the cursor around the rotary and keep moving it out from it until you encounter a hand cursor that doesn't have a plus or minus (once you've got it once, you'll get it). Click and as you can see, your altimeter setting below the VS bar on the PFD will go to millibars :)Geoffrey BaleanCanberra, AU (YSCB)http://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg http://www.vozvirtual.org/images/pmdgforumsignature.png"Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday. descent

Hi Eric :)I'm not too sure what you're talking about in the first bit as I don't know the full picture, however that may be due to the lack of any altitude or speed constraints entered in the FMC, often through STARs. Give a shot at entering custom altitude and speed constraints (in da manual). In regards to the last bit (haven't read tutorial lol) this might mean that when APP is selected after an intercept heading has been previously selected, the roll mode as displayed on the FMA is HDG, with VOR/LOC being armed. When it is time for the localiser to intercept, VOR/LOC becomes active, and APP then takes over. You'll also notice that ALT HOLD is the pitch mode before Glide Slope intercept, and G/S becomes the active mode when the G/S is close to intercept.Hope that helps a bit. If not, i'm sure somebody else will write something of better quality ;)Geoffrey BaleanCanberra, AU (YSCB)http://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg http://www.vozvirtual.org/images/pmdgforumsignature.png"Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday. 14. Hi David :)In my experience, this occurs in Australia when there are no waypoints / navaids between the last waypoint and the next waypoint after the airway. Therefore, just skip inserting the waypoint and instead insert only the navaids / waypoints.ie (but not a real life example, just using real names)DCT CB CULIN Y59 SY DCTIf you inserted this as:DCT CBDCT CULINY59 SY...and it didn't work in regards to the y59, leave out the Y59 airway and insert it as:DCT CBDCT CULINDCT SY...as it indicates that there are no other waypoints on the airway except Culin and Sydney VOR.Hope I've not confused you with slightly dodgy examples. Maybe this is an error with the NAVDATA in Australia, maybe not.Geoffrey BaleanCanberra, AU (YSCB)http://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg http://www.vozvirtual.org/images/pmdgforumsignature.png"Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday. 16. Hi All!I have found the solution to the problem. After fiddling with various stuff in FS, I have discovered that the problem lies with FSUIPC. I haven't updated it yet (will check for latest in a minute), but the key for me was to go into the FSUIPC Module in FS, and push all those clear weather buttons, however I think the main one to push would be the 'Normal Weather Defaults' one - better to be safe than sorry by pushing all and ending on this one though ;)I am happy again :DGeoffrey BaleanCanberra, AU (YSCB)http://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg http://www.vozvirtual.org/images/pmdgforumsignature.png"Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday. 19. Hi!I have exactly the same problem! I always have the very latest virus definitions, and have reinstalled hostsb (not SB yet). No bugs shown up with either SS&D or Adaware. The problem has been around for ages, so I won't be doing a System Restore - too much stuff to lose :) Any help for either of us would be greatly appreciated. It drives me nuts. It seems to right itself after you restart the machine (works then. strange that it seems to be a problem with the first boot of the machine a day - dodgy and surely incorrect, but that's what it does).Thankyou,Geoffrey BaleanCanberra, AU (YSCB)http://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg http://www.vozvirtual.org/images/pmdgforumsignature.png"Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday. 22. Thanks for the reply again!I was trying to get VNAV engaged right up from climb (after vectors), to cruise, and even when descending. I certainly got to the cruise altitude before the T/D, and the T/D point was still displaying. The legs page might be an issue - I just had the route inserted, not any STAR, however you would usually get that a bit before descent and it normally works fine. VNAV was engaged. Anyway, thankyou for your help Floyd, and I'll check out these things when I next fly, but hopefully the problem won't happen again ;)Geoffrey BaleanCanberra, AU (YSCB)http://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg http://www.vozvirtual.org/images/pmdgforumsignature.png"Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday. 23. Hi Floyd! The altitude in the FMC was the same as the one I was at, and I cruised at FL390, the same as was in the FMC. Not sure if I understand your second bit clearly, however when I was and should have been in cruise according to the FMC, it also would not engage. In relation to the fuel, I set off with 5.6 thousand kilos as estimated even after a long taxi (expected) but as the flight progressed and the winds suddenly changed (Activesky w/ wind smoothing and winds aloft calculated in my fuel requirement sheets) the FMC estimated fuel went to 0.0, though I arrived with wings=2x2300kgs and 450kgs in the center, which was even above my expected max landing fuel of 3600 kilos all up. ;) I wouldn't set out with it displaying 0.0 fuel - that's just stupid :)Thankyou again!Geoffrey BaleanCanberra, AU (YSCB)http://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg http://www.vozvirtual.org/images/pmdgforumsignature.png"Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday. 24. Hi All,Well, it seemed my other question in relation to SquawkBox didn't reveal any answers for me, however I have just had this problem and need to get to sleep, so I thought asking you all might be a bit quicker and less effort than looking through the manuals (if it even is in there). On my flight yesterday I had a problem in that when I'd taken off I switched to LNAV at 400ft, however I received a radar vector and had to maintain altituded thereafter. When I was finally able to engage VNAV at much greater than 3000ft AGL (therefore off both lateral and vertical track), it would not engage, stating 'Unable cruise alt', although I got there easily when I had to regretfully use VSpeed instead. I believe it may have something to do with the estimated fuel at arrival being 0.0, although I did have plenty when I arrived (in a previous post I recall someone saying this was not all together uncommon in the NG series in the realworld also). I was unable to find any other problem, and N1 went into CRZ when we reached the FL390 cruise.Thankyou for any help :D,Geoffrey BaleanCanberra, AU (YSCB)http://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg http://www.vozvirtual.org/images/pmdgforumsignature.png"Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday.
