  1. Not boring IMO.An interesting 'behind the scenes' look.
  2. If you guys could just go ahead and post a link to download the NGX source code, that would great. Thanks.
  3. Surely, you can't be serious.
  4. United StatesCalifornia (technically U.S., I guess)
  5. Think of it like this. If you or a loved one is a passenger on commercial airliner, would you be OK with some random passenger being allowed inflight access to the cockpit? If you were the captain in charge of a commercial airliner, who would you allow in the cockpit? You know you're a nice person and are just interested in aviation, but who can just assume that is the case and allow you in the cockpit? The list of curious folks who would love to sit in that seat is probably pretty large (I know I would...) so who gets to go? Besides that, if all it took was some friendly schmoozing or letter writing to get in the cockpit, I'm sure people up to no good would figure that out.
  6. Not rich enough to justify this for a hobby, but it looks quite interesting.SkyPad
  7. Wow, lots to look forward to!I love the 'raising of the bar', everybody wins IMHO.
  8. Good topic. My routine is similar. I actually like the planning part. You certainly learn that the better the planning, the better the flight. I actually think this hobby has helped me in other things in life by making me more attentive to the planning part of complex tasks.
  9. Looking at some Continental images, they did just replace Continental with United. I thought the gold piping on the side was new. I guess I never paid close attention to the Continental livery. So I suppose it would be a pretty simple paint to do.Perhaps this is a temporary livery until they come up with something more original.
  10. United - Continental visual branding. Pretty nice I think. Hopefully some painters will take a stab at this.UAL/Continental livery
  11. It rare when a product is deemed a failure before any code is written. Well, maybe not rare. But it's interesting to read.
  12. Thanks for taking the time to do this Ryan. I see a lot of 'one off' statements about this setting or that setting, so it's nice to see a complete setup from someone in the know. So far so good with these settings.
  13. So the issue was the fs9.cfg file after the graphics card change. All is well.
  14. It's actually FS9 that's the issue. But I think you fixed me up indirectly. When I checked the FS9.CFG, it was 32 bit but still showing the old ATI graphics card. Although in the game the graphics card shows gtx480, strange. Anyway, renamed the fs9.cfg file and restarted fs9. The new fs9.cfg file shows the correct graphics card and a quick check showed the sky looking quite nice indeed.I have to run but I will check it out further tomorrow. Could be a 'teaching moment' with regards to changing graphic cards. Thanks for the help.
  15. Thanks Ryan. I just checked the NVIDIA control panel and it is 32 bit.Something I noticed after my post is that if I go to windowed mode and just maximize the screen the banding is much less. When I switch to view --> full screen it's pretty bad. It's just strange. All other scenery looks incredibly detailed and smooth but the horizon looks like some JPEG nightmare. I'll have to keep playing around with the settings.
  16. After installing the nvidia GTX480 I'm noticing a real choppy/non-linear gradient on the horizon and water as well in FS9. Aircraft and ground textures look great and frame rates are no issue. I upgraded from an ATI 4870 and never seemed to have this issue with the horizon before. I'm wondering if there are some nvidia specific settings to eliminate this. I've tried various antialias, bilinear and trilinear settings. They all have their various effects but none seem to change the non-linear horizon.Any ideas or recommendations appreciated.
  17. I believe one implication is as faithful a reproduction as you could hope for. I recall reading in the past that Airbus technical information was harder to come by and one of the limiting factors of making proper simulation. I don't know if that's still the case, but with the PMDG bar set at such a high level I would think there has to be some cooperation with Airbus to do it right. Hopefully it will get worked out at some point.
  18. Thanks for the info... I will try that.UPDATE: Dan is correct. FS9 'save flight' remembers the PMDG 747 panel sizes. Very helpful for wide screen set up.By the way, if you don't have a wide screen monitor, consider it. It definitely makes a huge difference in the flight simulator experience. Although it is possible that I may be the last person to finally get one.
  19. I just bought a 23" widescreen and I'm using it for the FS9 PMDG 747 at the moment. As stated above the 2d panels start out stretched. I can adjust the panels nicely and get the 2d FMC and panel side by side in petty much correct aspect ratio which is great. What I haven't figured out is how to get them to stay that way after a restart. I tried saving the panel state and loading after restart but that doesn't seem to care about panel size.Is there a way to save the resized panels or do you have to manually resize every time?RegardsBob Quick
  20. +1 for having good results with graphics corruption using the highmemfix=1 tweak.I'm looking forward to further info on the BP=0 performance tweak as this caused several freeze-ups on my system. Although with 512mb on an ATI board it's probably expected. Also, this sounds like something that needs to be combined with other changes to work best. Thanks ******* for all your work on this. Just testing this out on my own system seemed quite a chore, but worth it. I see a GTX 480 in my future.
  21. I like the CRJ idea.A military jet would be nice but I suppose getting the info to do it right wouldn't be possible.Robert Quick
  22. It's a reminder to command the fuel system to deliver fuel tank to engine when the fuel quantities are equal. The fuel system is discussed starting on 11-44. Tank to engine is explained on 11-47. Use the EICAS fuel synoptic to see a graphic display of the fuel delivery configuration.Bob Quick
  23. Just a confirmation to anyone else that runs into this. The wake turbulence option being enabled in ActiveSky was indeed the issue for me. I've had at least 15 flights since disabling it without any issues. A number of these flights were at busy airports with other aircraft directly in front.Thank you to those who offer suggestions to these annoying problems.Bob Quick
