  1. >If you only play FS and have a low expectation you will be>happy. When you compare it to what other studios like Crytek,>Namco etc are doing, it makes FS look ancient. Things like HDR>lighting are a basic standard these days. Yet after a long>struggle with their own technology, MS couldn't even figure>that out. On their current path, its going to take 20-30 years>just to catch up to what games like Crysis can do TODAY.I don't think that Microsoft is behind in the times, find me another flight simulator that looks better that covers the entire globe. First person shooter are much easier to make as there is a much smaller area of land involved, and sight ranges are correspondingly lower at 6 feet agl than 6000 feet agl.
  2. wow, this is awesome, can't wait for a release!
  3. >Elephants were a priority so rain drops had to go Don't be hard on ACES, the better looking virtual cockpits more likely required the change to the system that doesn't support the animated raindrops. It's very likely that the raindrops effect will return in FS11.
  4. http://www.enterra-soft.com/download.shtmlEnterra icon keeper. Just download the freeware version. I used to use it all the time. It's lightweight and handy.

  7. >I agree. It really is like a nicely polished sim now. Even>some of those annoying bugs that I hated seem to be fixed now.>Landing lights work finally and the loading percentage>complete screen actually displays now instead of just the>black screen. This is incredible. Never in gaming history has>a patch ever done something like this. Kudos! In fact,>kuMOTHERFNGdos! 8. >Very funny.Hey, I laughed! :(
  9. I agree 100%Everyone who wants to should be able to access the lastest fixes, no matter if Microsoft deems it "finished" or not. I don't see why Microsoft would release beta versions of Vista... but not do the same things for FS fans waiting for a patch (for a long time now) to fix the product they have already bought.
  10. Sorry for the dumb question, but where can one obtain these textures?
  11. I think, by looking at the screens, that it is definately an improvement, but I simply don't think that it is enough to warrant a 9.99 euro price tag. It would be very nice freeware, but for the price it ain't worth it IMO.
  12. Nice, I love this program. Excellent find!I did, however, pull the navionics sound clip out. It's unnecessary to have it looping all the time. I might do the same with the sink rate ones, because in the big planes it's already incorporated. Too bad sometime the noises overlap, such as having 3 windshear alarms going off at once :(
  13. >Well, lately I have read a lot of posts of people who did not>speak from experience, but from what they have read left and>right on the net.>If that is all what those people do, repeat others opinions,>making unfunded conclusions and even force them on other>people, then I agree with the original poster.>It looks if someone is having positive experiences, and wants>to share them, he is shot down immediately lately.>with all due respect, JanI must agree with this post. Personally I have Vista too, and I have had ZERO problems with it. Speeds are the same (no, an new OS doesn't increase speeds, DirectX 10 and the necessary hardware upgrades do that)And people on the forums are gettings much too worked up over the DRM issue. It is EXTREMELY unlikely that Microsoft has any sinister plans... I mean, get realistic guys. Right now I'm enjoying the very nice GUI and much improved boot times over XP.
  14. Another small but annoying bug: Montreal Pierre-Elliott-Trudeau Int'l (CYUL), in the FSX airport browser looks like "Montreal/Pierre-Elliott-Trudea" - missing the "u" at the end.
  15. Well, Vista is being released at the end of the month, and they'll have to have the promised DX10 patch shorty after.
  16. Unfortunately i did something like that, and I forgot to back up the FSX folder under application data/microsoft. Is there a way to get my rewards back without doing half of them again?
  17. Yeah I'm very interested in this as well.
  18. I think that the increased time it is taking 3rd party developers to adapt their products to FSX is simply the result of there being a greater difference between FS9 and FSX than there was between FS8 and FS9.
  19. >AFAIK, Vista Home Basic will not include the DX10 API.>>Only Home Premuim and above will get it......that's really cheap. Are you sure? I know that the cheapest edition doesn't get the Aero effects, but no DX10? I have trouble believing that.
  20. >>I read that are possible only 2 activation of FSX (too few>>for a simulator that will last more than 3 years) since>>nowaday few PCs are able to run it well; I'll upgrade my pc>>next year when vista and DX10 will be out and probably>within>>2 year more again (I change it aprox every 2 years).>>>>I think that we all together we can make a petition or>>something to make MS or ACES Team expand at more activation>>(may be 1 every amount of time or....) but 2 are really not>>enought!!>>>>Andrea>>I have installed FSX three times so far.>On different computers?
  21. I'm guessing that when you uninstalled the US version you forgot to delete the FSX folder that remains in Application Files, where you do FSX.cfg tweaks. When you installed the UK version, the old tweaks you made carried over. Thats my guess
  22. I'll copy this post from someone who has a system similar to yours:"Running on an old e-machines w3080 amd athlon 3000+ here with 1 gb ram, 6600 gt. I played with the settings and locked at 15fps, very smooth setting.Demo 2:High global textures. (not much difference from medium as far as I could tell).Mesh at 100.Terrain at 2 cm. (very crisp and clear)Water at 2.x low. (Love the water, best feature)High scenery complexity.Sparse Autogen.Advanced animations.6o mile cloud draw distance.100 % cloud density.Airline and GA at 100% (not much traffic here so this is not a good guage of performance).cars at 50%. Boats at 50%Overall, a very pleasing view out the window. I will say it's a very nervous 15fps, flying near the forest behind Julianna dips to 13 a little. These are the settings I will attempt with the retail version, but I'll most likely have to drop either the autogen to none or the Terrain res to 5m to get 15 locked. As a note, I tried locking to 13 but that was slightly too low as i could discern that chop when looking down at the airport.I'm not sure why systems that are much better than mine are causing 2 fps? Maybe drop some settings down? I wish I knew first hand.As far as the sim itself it's a joy to fly. As stated, there are subtle changes to flight dynamics, atmosphere etc...that really enhance the feeling of flight. It seems very fluid even at 15 fps (which is what I get in FS9 with all the add-ons), and no stutters that I could see. I do hope the performance issues get resolved for everyone because despite the negativity it really is a great improvement over FS9.Ian."looks like he's having a blast, I say go for it.
  23. Any threads dedicated to screenshots will be in the screenshots forum.
  24. YES!!! FSX HAS ARRIVED IN OTTAWA! Only a few more hours, until I get off work 'till I'll get my greasy little hands on a shiny new copy of FSX Deluxe. I'm so happy.
  25. Basically all the Best Buy's and Future Shop's in Canada are selling them. EB Games in Canada is also selling right now.
