  1. That sounds like a great setup. But I'm curious - do you not find it odd that your seat moves but the view doesn't ?
  2. Could you post a screenshot of your library settings, to make it clear how it is right now ?
  3. Absolutely agree with OP. I've been using this kind of setup for years. I'm projecting onto a 70 inch wide screen and sitting about 9ft away. You need a dark room to get the best out of it though.
  4. Quite a few people are reporting water with a green tint. So far I think all those that have flagged it use REX, but I may be mistaken. ORBX say they don't do anything in FTX-G to change water textures (though they do in their regional products). I don't know that I've seen a fix posted yet.
  5. Frankly I'm amazed that a payware product of this significance does not have a solid, reliable uninstall program. If ever I buy FTX-G (and I am tempted), I will be sure to take a complete disk image of my system that I can restore if necessary.
  6. Yes - the roofs don't seem to fit the buildings somehow. I do too.
  7. What are those funny bluish buildings about one-third way across in the China pic (3rd image) ? Kinda look like sideways "D"s. They don't look quite right to me.
  8. Yep - that will do nicely. Thanks !!
  9. Thanks - that's re-assuring. Do post some pix if you can.
  10. I've read lots of discussion and seen many pix of FTX-G, but so far no screenshots taken at low level (say 500 - 100ft). Not that I fly around at that height all the time, but I do like my scenery to look real when I'm landing/taking off. I currently have GEX (EU), and that works very well in that respect. Could someone possibly post some low level pix of FTX-G to compare ? Thanks in advance.
  11. Well said Dr V. I just posted a very similar comment (re OpenLC and other LC products) over on another thread.
  12. All of which may be true. But I'm a little uneasy about the idea of OpenLC as the fix for everything..For example: It has been reported that FTXG has "Dry" texture tiles that are actually "Green". These give an inaccurate effect in some areas when FSX default or existing LC products are used. There are two ways they (ORBX) can fix that :. One way is to change the texture so it is "Drier". That of course will change all areas that the texture is used, but by and large will look more accurate under most of the LC products in use today. The other is to leave the texture as is, but craft OpenLC to call a different, drier texture for those areas affected. Either way will work, but if they leave the texture unchanged, then other LC products will most likely continue to produce an incorrect result. Which of course doesn't matter if OpenLC works perfectly everywhere and everyone is happy. But my experience of LC products is that they are not perfect, and while some are good in one place, others are better elsewhere. I switch between different LC products depending on where I fly, and I'm not sure I want to be locked into using OpenLC alone. Does that make sense to anyone ?
  13. I can't help wondering whether FTXG will trip over the same problem that GEX and other texture developers have been dealing with for years - that FSX uses the same textures in multiple places, not all of them appropriate. The only solution (so far) has been to modify the textures so they look "OK" everywhere, but not quite "right" anywhere.
  14. Oh - I got it figured. I don't see the FSX default roads on my setup because UTX removes them. And I don't see UTX roads because I have them all disabled. Doh. Sorry for the confusion. Now back on topic.
  15. Hang on guys - of course you're seeing details you didn't see before. You're looking at a completely different texture tile set. Anyone moving from FSX default to GEX might say the same thing. But the comment about the highways/traffic is interesting. I always understood that UTX highways were just painted over whatever textures (FSX default, UTX, GEX, FTXG) were underneath. Unless the installation of FTXG has reset something somewhere.
  16. Out of interest - is there anyone out there not running REX (I use FEX) who is seeing green water with FTXG ? Jan - FYI someone posted some pix over on another thread taken from a lower altitude, and the water in them looks green to me too.
  17. Hi Pete - we discussed this over on the GEX/FTXG thread. Just FYI (and my peace of mind), the water in the pix above looks green to me too ! But they're taken much closer to the water.
  18. Sorry Pete - no they don't. There is a difference against the sea, but if anything, the Thames looks grey, with maybe (just maybe) a very slight greenish tinge. The reservoirs look positively blue though. This is on my laptop, which is not my main FS system, and hasn't been calibrated in any way. I even brought it into a dark room to check my perception was not being affected by sunlight. The Thames and other inland water areas on my GEX/FEX/UTX system are very definitely (and deliberately) brown or brownish. I really don't want to lose that. OK - I typically run Very Dense, so that may make a difference. (PS I don't want to go OT on a UTX debate, but when I disable all roads in UTX those approach roads to the QE2 bridge disappear. In fact on my setup, I don't see any roads at all that aren't part of the texture tiles. Curious.)
  19. Hi Jan - very many thanks for these. Q: what are your autogen /complexity settings in these ? Also, you say you have UTX disabled, yet I believe I see UTX roads in the shot of the QE2 bridge over the Thames ? Clearly greener and more vegetation and buildings than on my system. And I don't seem to see the green water you mention ? At least not on this monitor. Thames looks not too bad, the reservoirs look blue (too blue for my liking).
  20. Thanks Jan - that's very kind of you. How about: Fly NE out of Biggin Hill (EGKB) towards Southend (EGMC) that will take you over some countryside and urban areas and also give a good view of the 'green' Thames. Also fly due west out of Sheffield City (EGSY) which should take you over to the Pennines over a number of large reservoirs. BTW - which landclass product do you use ? Your help much appreciated !
  21. I did ask that very question on the ORBX forums a while back, and got the same answer from JV. Do let us know what you find - it may be something others of us may trip over. PS With this hot weather, many inland ponds and lakes in UK are covered with algae, but not the rivers. And certainly not the Thames !
  22. Could someone post some FTXG shots of UK ? I have GEX, which I like very much, but the countryside could be greener. From what I read, FTXG does just that (maybe rather too much in some places). I didn't purchase FTX England, mainly because I don't like the colour of FTX inland water (too blue), which you can't change. FTXG (with UTX & FEX) would allow me to keep my water the way it is.
  23. Sometimes there are advantages to being an old codger with a long memory. At one time you weren't allowed to have blanks at all :
  24. I believe quotes are only required in DOS commands if you have blanks in any component of the file/path you are referencing. So for example CD \MyFiles or CD\"MyFiles" or CD \"My Files" will all work, whereas CD \My Files won't.
