  1. Before I bought ASA I had a problem with one texture disappearing. Now it looks like it might be related to frozen water, but I'm not sure yet. Not being completely familiar with textures in FSX I would find this problem hard to nail down, except previously I had fixed the problem by uninstalling XG and ASX both.Today I discovered the problem has returned, but I haven't used XG except through ASA. Flying through Florida I found lots of smaller ponds and mid-sized ponds appearing to be frozen solid (textured white). Then when I landed at KFMY I noticed the winds were 4-5 times stronger then ATIS reports. I landed the F1 Mustang at 55 ktas and I was at a ground speed of nearly zero. Indeed, the plane did not roll but maybe twenty feet.Is there a problem with the wind being accelerated with ASA?
  2. Active Sky Advanced is my choice for add-on Product of the Year!... decade in fact. ASA makes a giant difference in FS and all for the better!Well done, HiFi Simulation!
  3. Here, here! I would like to nominate the Mustang for payware aircraft of the year! Great stuff!Concerning the bugs I see a lot more devastating defects in other products that were intentional 'features.'
  4. Manny, do whatever it takes to get it working. I wish I could help you! ASA (if that's what you were talking about) is probably the most important purchase I have made for FSX. ASA really improves FS all the way around.
  5. ASA really has made a difference to FS. For everyone looking for the 'biggest thing for FS since FS,' ASA is it.
  6. I have seen the same thing for a long time.
  7. I don't have the CJ1, but I was really surprised by the Mustang. The audio environment, at least, is something I haven't seen in other planes. Flying the Mustang I have decided I want to buy more Cessna aircraft, so I will probably be picking up the Citation X, or CJ1. When Eaglesoft releases a Cessna 400 w/ Garmin I will do my best to be the first in line!I would be one of the people that bought the Mustang (in R/L I mean), because I really love Garmin systems
  8. Yes, and crosswind runways won't be active unless you have modified AFCADs installed (at least that is the way it has been explained to me).
  9. A few of us have run into this already. The fix is nothing major. A couple of ways to fix it are discussed in this thread:http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=238284I opted for the registry edit, but the resolution change would have fixed it also. I believe changing resolution (period) would cause the window that is off screen to show itself again.
  10. I was really enjoying the FSX mission topic as discussed in PC Pilot magazine. FSInsider was linking to the articles there and I was following along as I could, but a few months have passed now and nothing new has come along. I'm living in America, so getting this magazine could be a problem. Is anyone a subscriber here in America? It's not a cheap magazine and delivery costs might be prohibitive, but it looks like an excellent magazine.Does anyone have a word on when part 5 of the mission building topic might see print?
  11. Two things right off are the Texture_Bandwidth_Mltiplier and LOD_Radius which are both low. However, if you are flying a fast mover (F-16 or similar) you are going to see blurries. If you are flying a Cessna and see blurries you can try setting TBM to 120 and LR to 6.5. No one persons configuration is going to work for everyone, so some tweaking is inevitable. If, the settings I suggested don't work, then I would start by downloading the FSXMark07 benchmarker from AVSIM and experiment with different values of each. Start with TBM set to 40 and then increment LR from 3.5 to 9.5 in increments of 0.05, until you arrive at a result you can live with. My system is similar to yours and my recommendation is what I settled upon.
  12. With Vista 64 you are much better off to install FSX into another folder other then C:\Program Files (x86) and to make sure UAC is turned off (you also do not need indexing, superfetch, or readyboost). Also, I notice you don't mention a soundcard. Hopefully, you do have an actual soundcard and not onboard sound, which will hinder performance. Vistas indexing, UAC, and direct sound are just a few of the downsides, but they really hurt performance. This is a good place to start anyway.AI Traffic with default aircraft can be a major frame killer, too.You might post your fsx.cfg for a quick look.
  13. Looks like good responses! Two things I noticed right off are aircraft shadows are on which you dont really need and the LOD_RADIUS is set for 3.5 which is medium I know, but you can push it higher once you get your resolution higher. The 8XXX and 9XXX cards dont really get good performance until the resolution is set higher (best at 1600x1200 or higher) and they work with the high definition widescreens even better then 4:3 monitors from my experience. Once you get that working you can use FSXMark07 (available in the file library) to manually tune your LOD settings for best look/frame rates. I actually get better performance with a value much higher then the 'slider' allows (the slider goes from 2.5 - 4.5), but you will have to test it on your system to find out what works best for you. I would not set LOD radius higher then 9.9 or so.With your CPU you may have commercial AI set a little high. Are you using default AI, or an addon package? What other addons do you have installed? Replacing traffic with an addon (no matter which way you go) will be an improvement over default traffic. I like to recommend World of AI (WOAI), but it is a package intended for 2004 and will require some manual effort to get it working perfectly with FSX (you cannot use DX10 or aircraft shadows, and any prop textures will have to modified for proper transparency). With traffic you also get better looking scenery with 3D Lights Redux from A2A Simulations.
  14. Did you try the Shockwave fix?http://shockwaveproductions.com/forum/view...p?p=88509#88509
  15. First off I have to say no Vista will not make things any better. Vista can make things run smoother under some circumstances, but not prettier (except under even more rare circumstances). DX10 is not worth the switch to Vista alone. However, if you need more memory Vista does offer better memory handling and that would be about it.For the rest of it I think I should defer to one of the bigger experts of FSX (some of which should cruise by soon), or hardware gurus. I could point you in something like the right direction, but most likely with so little time to compose something good I would only confuse you. So, if you haven't gotten squared by the time I get back from three days off for Christmas, then I'll offer more.
  16. Not all video card manufacturers update their drivers along with Nvidia. So concerning 1) I recommend visiting the website of your video card manufacturer and using the latest driver they have for your card. Mace made an excellent suggestion with the version number from his experience which goes a long way.You might also want to do a search on 'OOM error,' because you may very well be on the edge right now. But, you might also save your system the way it is for playing FSX without the need of upgrading.
  17. Though the few areas I would want are not expensive I have to hesitate in purchasing because so little is accomplished. Not only that, but looking at the photos I can see the aerials are not color matched which brings a few other questions to mind.Going to have to wait on this one.
  18. Yeah, it's a pain to get it all tuned. I had to go to an illegal value in two or three variables in the fsx.cfg to get rid of stutters and optimize frame rates. Some of the FS9 planes are my favorites and I can't let go of them.
  19. Bob I use a lot of 2004 aircraft too, but most of the problems in porting was just transparency issues. Maybe you have a lot of planes with older gauges?
  20. I'm not sure exactly what all the 'hoopla' is about, but I would like one thing cleared up (and I think it should be made more obvious). Is there a product (aircraft) that has already been released that offers an updatability in its navigation system? Not being a commercial/instrument flier (yet) some of the verbiage and acronyms went over my head, but it seems like what was asked for would be a little 'all-encompassing?'
  21. What ever it is I won't buy it until you guys check it out first. I don't like long waits, especially the pre-announced variety.I already have the jet. Is it normal for so many bugs to come with one plane? Oops, hijacking alert!...
  22. Alpha India has mappings for some WOAI airplanes and for 3D Lights that you (yes the user) has to enter by hand. Yes, I did this myself and my AI are all beautiful now.
  23. Well, it's a bit pricey to just drop my wallet out there without some kind of fore-knowledge...
  24. The Windows 7 that is out now is a simplified Vista. At the stage it is at it should be faster than Vista is. By the time it gets released... it will be bloated again. I hope I'm wrong, but I know MS pretty good by now.
  25. I wouldn't even worry about DX10. FSX looks great without it. Windows 7 won't be more then an update to Vista, so you might consider Vista 64. You didn't get a 64-bit disk with Vista Ultimate?
