  1. Is the MD11 that great? I have come close to buying it a few times now, but the fact that it is a non-Boeing, and a tri-jet, and have a personal connection to the DC10 that went down in Iowa those years ago, I have stayed away from it, but hear nothing but great things about it.
  2. Go to Settings->Display>Aircarft tab, and make sure "Show cockpit ToolTips" is checked.
  3. I tried two more times now to reproduce what I did before to get the FO into Checkitis, but just cannot seem to do it. It is very similar to me trying to get that bug I experienced on my very first 767 Voice Commander flight with the constant FA button chime during descent. Experienced it once, and since never again.
  4. Glad to hear it finally worked. And FYI, the reason you set the fourth pump to AUX is to loosen up the nose gear for pushback and tail turn. Once you are clear of the pushback truck and ground equipment, with all four engines on, you can turn that pump on then (or auto).
  5. When I first saw that on tv, I was shocked that of all things, he couldnt figure out how to lower the landing gear. And when someone has a chance to fly in one of those simulators, I feel disappointed when this is how they react, by just goofing off.Still, I do enjoy Mythbusters a whole lot. And always tell people who doubt the moonlandings to watch their moon episode, or risk getting punched in the face by "Buzz".
  6. The Boeing 744 is quite easy to start. On the overhead panel, make sure you have the Batteries on, standby power to auto, have the apu running and on both busses, and have all the buses on, and GEN swithces on, and have all hydrolic pumps on execpt for number 4 (far right) set to AUX. Make sure the APU bleed air valve is open, and the engine bleed air valves are open. SOP is to turn off at least two of the packs, but you can start the engines with all three running. Make sure the autostart function is on (center of the panel), then turn on the fuel switch of the engine you want to start first (on the throttle quad.), and pull the corresponding black nob on the overhead panel, and white dot should illuminate to show the start sequence has begun. Rince and repeat for the remaining three.
  7. Now I just tried to give the FSWidget EFB a try but it is yelling at me that is cannot establish simconnect. Now I know this is not possible because I am running Active Sky on the same laptop and that connects to FSX networked via simconnect with no trouble at all. Is there a step I am missing here?
  8. If I apply these changes is it still possible to easily revert back to the defaults?
  9. Try the usual tricks, defrag your drives, clean out the temp files, also check out the ******* tweaks if you have not done so. Some real peformance gains to be found using those.
  10. Better get out and push!I belive there are usually two types of ground air available. One is a lower pressure variety that can be used for cabin cooling. The other is a Ground starter unit, which is of a higher pressure, enough to start the engines. I am not sure how much pressure you can get from the ground unit, may try and start only one engine at a time for the first two, then you should have plenty of bleed air to start the remaing two together.
  11. I did get some help from fellow simmers over there yes, as Flight Simmers tend to be a very eager to help bunch, and that is great. As for Mr S, I understand why he gets called arrogant. I had two issues, fairly big ones, one where the GRD Button would crash to desktop, and one where the VC would vanish in flight, and all I get is links to stickies on the top of the forum and very little in terms of official help. And being told my issues with the FMS getting blown out after the failed engine start that comes with using Accel. was a minor thing that I shouldnt worry about. It took going to the PMDG forum to fix both those things, as the FMS issue was one that I thought I had been able to develop a workaround for but could not get it to work on a consistent basis. Now I have owned the Level D 76 for a long time now, it is very fun to fly, and anyone wanting a 767 for FSX I would say to them to check it out, but I cannot say, from my own personal experience, which my be an exception to the rule, and when I compare that to my experiences with other companies like FS2Crew, Radar Contact, and of course PMDG, that the Level D support is quality.
  12. Those updates to AivlaSofts EFB sound fantastic! Adds all the things I thought was missing in the version i demo'd. Weather, and now the vertical profile for approach charts, can't wait for this new version to come out.
  13. The "official" LDS forum is about as worthless as this one. I am not talking about AVSIM in general here, there are many great places here at AVSIM. Just anything in general about Level D is annoyingly unhelpful in terms of "support"
  14. I have to admit I chuckled at that. Never gets old that nonsense thread.
  15. Just flew into FMMI the other day (default scenery), that was quite interesting. The runway is in a crater, ILS G/S was going to take me into the ground, sort of had to go into a ATL HOLD at DH and wait until I could see the front of the runway, then descend pretty fast to get the wheels down in the TDZ. Pefrect place to test out the Vertical Display thingy.
  16. Or engines that start on the first try. And an CDU that doesnt get blown out when the engine fails to start on the ground.
  17. I thought the unnecessary talk was supposed to be knocked off with below 18000ft? :(
  18. Sweet Moses that sounds cool. With the vertical display this is really going to be a fun plane to fly those Rnav approaches into Palm Springs for sure. And Rnav Rwy 1 at KDCA, another one of my favorite approaches to fly.
  19. I have just been looking around flightaware a bit more closely and just found out you can download all the IFR charts for an airport with just one link!! That is very nice indeed. I may have to jump on with your workflow Dan and start downloading the charts locally to my laptop/EFB. And as for the charts on SkyVector, it seems that they are straight up photocopies of the real charts you can buy from the NOAA, which I find very cool. And it isnt that much of a pain to switch the charts, because where ever your crosshair is placed, those appropriate charts are linked in the upper right hand corner of the screen. And I believe you can click on airports in Sky Vector as well. One thing I found initially confusing but easily figured out was the codes required on Runwayfinder. They both are very similar, but one thing Runway finder seems to have over SkyVecotor is weather, but I use Active Sky Evo for weather, so I just go by what that says and not get too surprised when the weather is nothing like what is reported :)

    FSFuel

That was what I was afraid of. And I really dont buy their excuse that they do the computing for us because it requires a monster machine. And I have done quite a bit of reading up on FMSs (mainly the 737s as a way to get off running when the NGX comes out) and I have seen on multiple occsions that LRC is quite a ridiculous option in terms of practicality and is rarely used in real world operations, with the prefernce far and away being a proper Cost Index. Something about it being focused only on engine performance and distance with no regard to winds and temps.
  21. I own three planes with Wx Radar equip. The CoolSky Super 80 Pro, The Maddog Pro, and the feelthere ERJ v2. None of them have done me any good. The Maddogs Wx Radar I find is best used when I fly it into KPSP for the terrain feature. But as for weather and using it to avoid possible hairy situations, absolutly worthless.
  22. I see RunwayFinder is tied with AirNav for the charts. I used to use Airnav, and the official FAA link that was posted here. The main reason I switched to SkyVector for most of my domestic flying needs is the thumbnail previews of the charts. I find that and easy way to search for starts and sids when flying to/.from airports I am not familiar with. But I am with you on Navigraphs FMS data service. I will always be a customer for that.
  23. Interesting stuff. Thanks for the info. I have done a lot of "googling" on the subject, and what you are telling me jives with what I have read. One guy even said, "in idiot language, it makes your plane fly like an Airbus". Sounds quite useful to me when instead of punching a bunch of commands into the MCP when a quick change is needed in your flight, you can just switch to CWS mode and do it yourself without having to mess with trim (Which for me is always the trickiest part in FSX, as you never are quite sure how far you just messed with the trim by pressing the 3 or 1 Num keys.)Thanks for the info!
  24. I never liked Navigraph's style of their charts, and the fact you have to keep paying to update your charts got old with me very quick. Flightaware is a fantastic resourse, and I also use SkyVector.com, both are free, and have NOAA (AeroNav) charts, which imho, are the best (for US flights of course)
