  1. I'm so happy to see this released. John very kindly sent me a beta copy a while back and all I can say is that it changes XPX no end for me. I can finally run maxed out clouds with this slider over three screens. Default clouds were just a no no. So congratulations john, you deserve it. Jess b
  2. Off. Over three screens its a killer, and that's before cloud!
  3. Devon, go to rendering options and adjust the f.o.v in there. That will keep it default for all aircraft. Iirc it's somewhere towards the bottom of the rendering setup page.
  4. Hi jcomm. I write for PC pilot magazine, so there are reviews and articles in there. I also write for another online site. My next online review will be the Carenado C340 for XPX. Next mag review is a collection of iPad apps. I won't put the website address here as to not violate forum rules. feel free to pm me though if I can do anything for you. Best wishes, Jess B
  5. Saitek panels all work via Saitek drivers. Available from Saitek themselves these days. The BIP takes a bit of effort to get to work though.
  6. Thanks Hasse, I'll look into it tomorrow. Currently testing with a nice long flight. Pmdg 747 @ 4.4ghz 1.32 vcore.
  7. Well that sucks. Here are the results. Upto 4.4ghz. Boot to windows. 4.5. Bsod 4.4ghz boots in at 1.25v, but the minute I start prime, its back to the bsod. So it looks like I have a really bad chip. Sigh. Btw Westman, I couldn't disable turbo boost as it wouldn't allow me to overclock at all. Did you mean speedstep?
  8. Thanks westman. I'll check it out when I get home, but I'm not optimistic. For the sake of clarity my system is following. Asus Z87 pro mobo I7 4770k 8gb corsair vengeance ram @ 1866 Nvidia 680 4gb gpu, 750watt power supply 1 120gb ssd 2 x 1Tb wd black hdd. Corsair H100i cooler. With the bios options left in auto, I couldn't run anywhere above 4.2ghz with any chance of stability. If fact, I even had a bsod at 4.2ghz. Anyway. Will lock at 1.25 and cross my fingers. Best wishes, Jess B
  9. Thanks for bringing this thread back up. Id forgotten about it. Personally, I'm hating my 4770k. Currently running @4.4ghz but i can't get it stable. My vcore is running at 1.31v jumping to 1.37v under very high loads. Cant even run prime in blend as the temps for the fpu test rocket from around 73°c up to 100°c. So i'm guessing I've got a bad chip. I've had the bsod from running fsx and not even in a stressful situation. (Out over the ocean with a simple biplane for example. I'm really starting to pull my hair out. My old 2500k would clock at 4.8ghz with no issue. Sigh!
  10. I think we had the only yoke in the UK. So getting hold of a review sample is difficult.
  11. Hi guys, We reviewed the go flight yoke in issue 88 I think (or 87) of PC pilot. Can't remember how we scored it though.
  12. Apologies to anyone waiting for the next leg of the journey. My mother passed away this week and I've been unable to finish writing the second leg. Hopefully everything will be back to normal soon. Jess
  13. Hmmmm, well the updated driver seems to have helped, maybe. I completed my flight (4 and a half hours!) but I'm now wondering if my gpu is not well. After I installed the latest nvidia driver, but after the install, windows went nuts. A load of 'memory could not be read' messages for every program. A reboot fixed it, but I'm not sure what's the issue. Add to this an issue I had flying the pmdg 777 at night. Having switched from spot view to cockpit. The cockpit corrupted with just green squares instead of the normal backlighting. A re render set it back to normal, but I've never seen that before. So I think these issues are all related. I really hope it isn't my graphics card. It's only just coming up to a year old. Best wishes, Jess B
  14. Thought I'd share this. This morning I was just flying the third leg of my XPX around the world thing, and climbing out of Keflavik my screen turned a beautiful rainbow colour and XPX crashed. Turns out the OpenGL driver had a wig out and collapsed into a jabbering ball of jelly. I'm updating my drivers for the nvidia 680 now in the hopes it doesn't do that again. I'm just glad it did it then and not after two hours. Its a long flight today. Lol Best wishes, Jess B
  15. Not always. I've seen autogen pop in xpx. It could have something to do with the osm data I'm using but I have have definitely seen popping. As to p3d. I did request the reintroduction of alpha fade on the p3d forums about a year ago iirc, thinking it would be a great feature for version 1.5. Lol
  16. Exciting times john. Every journey begins with a single step.
  17. I do find debates like this really funny. Partly because I'm as guilty as anyone for decrying the generation below as 'stupid, idiotic or dumb'. My partner works with kids on a daily basis and oh dear god, some of them are stupid. I mean Darwin level stupid. With that said though, the idea that mya genration or indeed your genre action, whichever that is, is superior is a fallacy. For example, it's not my or the generation below that's shut down the US government. Its not my or the generation below that allowed banks to lead us to the big meltdown a few years ago. And it wasn't my or the generation below who took some of us into a war without evidence. Now I know these are controversial points, but how does it look to the next generation if the current generation still does stupid things? I'll sign off with this thought. Every generation lambasts the next generation as dumb. The 20's were the jazz babies, the 50's rock and roll teens, the 60's flyover power, the 70's punks and so on. Each generation has looked bad to the previous. It's the nature of things. Best wishes, Jess B
  18. Well. I'd have to disagree with almost all you said, and for several reasons. Firstly, to say I'm not an XPX advocate is odd. I have Avsim's only X Plane blog, I use XPX at least once a week and at the last flight sim show PC pilot exhibited at, I spent two solid days explaining, demonstrating and showing off XPX to over 1500 people. Its fair to say I'm not a single sim advocate. As for the the job of a moderator, I think you misunderstand that to. The best moderators should be impartial. That last thing you need is someone whose position is one sided. That's a sure fire way to stifle legitimate debate. Now looking at your own language in the out above, its incendiary, likely to draw attention from those who do agree with your point of view and there's no real need for it. Just because it's posted in the x plane forum doesn't make it 'ok'. Yo could make your point without such 'passionate' language. As for 'as you put it' posts from the 'same old detractors'. To be fair, whilst I know who your talking about, of late posts here have been well mannered and quite interesting. No one's shouted at anyone, no posts have been reported or deleted and to date, no 'risk of closure' notices have been added to any threads. Instead we've had good discussions regarding torque amongst other things, with good data coming out and a good sense of decorum. As for the moderator themselves, well my volunteering was mostly made in jest to try and lighten the mood of the thread. But I disagree that the x plane mod should be a full on XPX supporter, and I've mentioned my reasons for this above. Impartiality and a light touch is far more important than a steel boot and a fixed position. A moderators job is to allow free discussion but keep it clean, not take a side steer the discussion in one direction. But if a mod is as impartial as I suggest, then one thing I agree with is that that'll need a thick skin. Best wishes, Jess B
  19. Thanks Mario. I've got wick covered but nice find for Cardiff. I'll look into the GPS issue for my next flight.
  20. Thanks Mario. I'm sure I'll manage. Flight 2 is in the bag and flight 3 will be sometime next week.
