  1. Capt. PERO's post in Newbie Questions on Start-Up was marked as the answer
As Michael anwered a lot a questions already I try to add my 5 cents.

    1) With SIMstarter you don't need to delete Scenery Areas from the Scenery.cfg (or the ScenerySet). You can easily create different ScenerySets and only activate the ones that are needed for that ScenerySet. If SIMstarter runs, he walks trough the scenery.cfg and set everything to ACTIVE=TRUE if the related Area is not deactivated in an ScenerySet

    2) Yes, you can use "ScenerySpacer". They act like groups. If you click the ScenerySpacer he activates/deactivates every Area until the next ScenerySpacer. I use it myself (how could it be else) and it's a very useful one.

    3) Yes, if you are using FTX Regions you need to either select the region at the "ORBX" tab or select "FTXcentral dialog" if you want to do it manualy inside FTXcentral. If you preselect a region SIMstarter starts FTXcentral in a special way to switch the region

    4) You could either use "Jumpstart" to "jump" directly into a SavedFlight or select the saved flight at the "Startdefinition" tab and set "General" tab > Show opening screen = OFF

    5) As SIMstarter has no copy of the scenery.cfg you can use whatever tool you like to add new Scenery. I use SIMstarter for that. SIMstarter works the way described in 1

    Enjoy it!

    Hope that answers your questions?!
  2. Capt. PERO's post in Default Flight was marked as the answer
    Hi Graham,

there is a problem using SavedFlights at P3D startup with P3Dv3.x.

    See here:

Hope that they fix it with v3.2... :O|
  3. Capt. PERO's post in Orbx Hybrid was marked as the answer
SIMstarter will not handle Vector configuration at the moment. You can add Vector to your SIMstarter RunSet and tick the checkbox "Pause after program start". That allows you to start a program, do you configuration and continue the profile start after pressing "ok" in SIMstarter.

Please let me know if that works for you.

Sorry, I double checked but this seems to be not a SIMstarter problem. I tested different situations with FSX:SE and it worked...

  11. Capt. PERO's post in V 2.6.3- Jumpstarter failed was marked as the answer
    Okay. Thank you.

SIMstarter is using a saved flight to run the "JumpStart" function. For that reason he needs at least one saved flight located in the "Flight Simulator X Files" directory. Maybe you've choosen the wrong one. Please check:

Open SIMstarter > Settings > Program settings Switch to "FSX / FSX:SE" card Check your folder under "Flight Simulator X Files". Maybe open it with the explorer and double check if there are saved flights. As specialy for users with other languages there could be a wrong path because FSX uses "Flight Simulator X-Dateien" instead of "Flight Simulator X-Files". Close dialog and run "Jumpstart" Once it is correct SIMstarter should do the JumpStart job as well. ;O)
  12. Capt. PERO's post in Splash Screens was marked as the answer
    Hi Graham,

I would take a copy of one existing "Splash Screen" you will find in

    <YOUR SIMstarter directory>\Splashscreens\FSX\*

Splashscreens for FSX must be 800 x 602 pixels for P3D it should be 800 x 600 (never tested what happend if they are in a different size).

Once you've created a new Splashscreen you can copy it to that upper directory with a different name and select it at "SplashScreen" tab within the profile configuration.

Hope that works for you! ;O)
  13. Capt. PERO's post in Infowindow about FSX.cfg changes was marked as the answer
First of all "it's not a bug - it's a feature" and called "Diff Manager"... ;O)

Let me give you some background regarding this window:
SIMstarter is handling a copy of your fsx.cfg / prepar3d.cfg which we will rebuild each time you are using a profile. If SIMstarter would simple overwrite the existing file we would never be notified regarding changes from third party software or changes that you did within the simulator. Should be useful for all of us. ;O)

    When does the window appear?
If any a line of your "real" fsx.cfg is not included in that Masterprofile or in another profile it would be shown as "Found new changes". Because it is not part of one of your configuration profiles.

How to avoid this window at changes that have been done by your simulator during flight?
You can simple "Ignore changes" if you are sure that you dont want to be notified by such change. You can "check" these items and click "Add to ignore list". You can simply review the ignore list and unignore items by clicking "Tools" > "Diff Manager".

In reality this windows appears very seldom. I added some lines to the ignore list.

I hope that helps. Otherwise we could have a small Skype Chat or call - if needed.
  14. Capt. PERO's post in how to use Scenery Config Editor with Simstarter was marked as the answer
    Hi Mark,

there are three ideas of using sceneries with SIMstarter:

Idea 1: SIMstarter does not touch enything:
You can just use SIMstarter without changing anything to your scenery configuration. Just leave the Dropdown List at the "ScenerySet" Tab at "No changes to scenery.cfg". All scenery related changes have to be done outside SIMstarter

Idea 2: SIMstarter uses an external Configuration Tool like "SceneryConfigEditor"
With this setting you can select a scenery.cfg file of your choice within each SIMstarter profile. You can prepare those Scenery configurations with an external tool and simple use it with SIMstarter. SIMstarter will copy the new file and replace the existing scenery.cfg file.
    See HowTo: http://www.avsim.com/topic/464819-howto-use-external-scenerycfg-files-eg-from-sceneryconfigeditor/

    Idea 3: SIMstarter uses  ScenerySets
ScenerySets includes deativated scenery areas. You can create multiple ScenerySets and combine them. From my point of view thats the best way to managed your sceneries. Whenever new sceneries are added to your scenery.cfg it will be correct handled by SIMstarter because the ScenerySets does not contain a copy of your scenery.cfg but just the title of your deactivated areas (sceneries) of that ScenerySet.
Maybe you could have a small view into the video guide:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2SH_SwIVy5E

    Hope that answers your question?
  15. Capt. PERO's post in One profile makes an aircraft CTD was marked as the answer
    Okay. Strange one... ;O)
If you like to send me the files - you're welcome.

Usually the profiles should not affect a aircraft behaviour.

But you should correct your installation path (as I recommended in the other post) to avoid strange behaviour.

    Hope that helps!
  16. Capt. PERO's post in SimStarter: changing to run as admin was marked as the answer
It does not work because of the User Account Control auf Microsoft Windows. ProgramData should not be stored in C:\Program Files (x86). Therefore I recommand to not install it at this location.

Please see manual page 3 chapter 1.5.1

Best way for a correction would be:
New installation of SIMstarter to a new destination (e.g. D:\FSX\SIMstarter) Complete the installation Copy all files and subdirectories of your previous installation C:\Program Files (x86)\SIMstarter\*.* to that new path Try the new installation If the new installation works as aspected you could delete your C:\Program Files (x86)\SIMstarter\ directory. No uninstallation is required it that case because the installer is aware of the new selected directory Happy landings!
  17. Capt. PERO's post in Some questions about SIMstarter was marked as the answer
    Hi Gregg,

Zoran did answer most of the questions already. I just would like to add my 5 cents:

    4) The logic of the SceneryManager is to disable selected Scenerys. If you combine two ScenerySets they need to have the same Scenerys but should be different by Active or Inactive Scenerys (otherwise it wouldn't make sense). If you have two ScenerySets all Scenerys becomes Active if at least one ScenerySet has set it to Actice.

I am using it that way: Creating different ScenerySets for:

    - Basic Scenery
    - FTX Global
    - Germany VFR
    - Germany IFR
    - Rest Europe
    - Night Environement Germany
    - Night Environement France

At each of this ScenerySet I just leave the relevant Scenerys = Active, all others to Inactive.

If I combine them they will bring me the result that I need for each profile. Example profile02 is VFR Germany, I selected Base Scenery, FTX Global, Germany VFR.

I am working on a very improved SceneryManager (see preview which makes it clear) which will make handling of it much, much easier. There will be a YouTube video following...

    5) Try starting SIMstarter with Administrator right. That is a OS operation and need to have sufficient user rights

    6) This error is searching for a running FSX.exe or PREPAR3D.exe. If you are using a MigrationTool with PREPAR3D he will find a dummy FSX.exe
  18. Capt. PERO's post in SIMStarter with complex airplanes was marked as the answer
    Hi Kevin,

thank you for your testing. It would be great if you could send me a copy of your zipped ",\Userprofiles\" folder of SIMstarter.
SIMstarter is used by many thousends of users that are using complex aircrafts as well. Also from the beta team I have never heard of such a problem (would for sure not means that it does not exisit). Maybe there is a setting missing or something like that?!

If you are willing to continue your test, please send me the zipped folder. ;O)

    Happy landings!

  23. Capt. PERO's post in External Scenery.cfg from SceneryConfigEditor was marked as the answer
    Hi Graham,

if I got you right, you could use the settings "Use external scenery.cfg" to define a source scenery file and copy it to scenery.cfg.

    I made a small HowTo: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/464819-howto-use-external-scenerycfg-files-eg-from-sceneryconfigeditor/
