  1. Yup - I am using the experimental dense forests from alpilotx and the effect can be quite impressive. Here are a few screenshots I posted some time ago: ,
  2. Are you talking about this? The screenshots can be found here.
  3. Gamma setting is default. I have an Intel i5-2500 with 16 gig of ram and an AMD Radeon 7870. With the settings that where used for these screenshots I get a single digit slideshow. But reducing global shadows and world distance detail helps a lot and still looks very good. Its the area around Stuttgart / Germany that obviously has pretty decent OSM coverage.
  4. OSM = OpenStreetMap. The scenery is created by a tool called World2XPlane that uses the data from OpenStreetMap to generate X-Plane scenery files. I didn't generate the scenery myself though but used one provided by simHeaven (downloads for World2XPlane scenery can be found here). The plane is the Cessna 337 from Carenado. Global shadows on maximum - but it's a frame rate killer  .
  5. Testing scenery generated by the latest Version of World2XPlane featuring photo scenery form simHeaven.
  6. Well - the good news is that Ben is working on an improvement to the atmospheric scattering algorythm.
  7. Question from the blog comments: Answer:
  8. I am curious to see what the scope of "soon" is ... days? weeks? months? ... who knows .
  9. If you guys had to decide between the AS350 and the Bell 407 - which one would you choose?
  10. It's only the World2XPlane scenery and photo scenery files from simHeaven plus the B58 BARON from carenado. I'm not sure if the experimental (dense) forests from alpilotx has any effect in this scenario but that was installed as well. Most likely not. Germany has rather nice OSM coverage.
  11. Just a couple of shots using the recently updated scenery files from simHeaven featuring the latest beta of World2XPlane. Click on the images for full resolution.
  12. Superb shots. What clouds are you using?
  13. Thanks for the update Tony. It seems that what is already very cool will get even better. Your work is highly appreciated.
  14. Great Livery. Do you create them youself?
  15. I downloaded that photo scenery file before hd mesh v2 was released so it was the old version for sure. However since all buildings and forests are generated by World2XPlane the only thing from the mesh of the photo scenery is elevation data. I will get an updated file and so how much of a difference it makes.
  16. Great shots. Where is it?
  17. There is a new post about the gps on the dev blog: http://developer.x-plane.com/2014/03/new-approach-capable-gps-navigator-in-x-plane-10-30/
  18. It's over since 6 full minutes. Are there any news yet?
  19. I didn't produce the scenery myself. I just downloaded it from link you named. So - yes - it is available there. My monitor resolution is 2560 x 1440. The images are slightly smaller since I was not running in full screen mode. The images are 2560 x 1378 in size. For the screenshots I maxed out almost every setting except anti aliasing which was set to "2x SSAA + FXAA". Thus it was a single digits slideshow - I don't know exactly what frame rates I got since I turned it of for the screenshots but my guess would be around 5 fps. Reducing shadow detail and word distance detail usually helps a lot to get flyable fps. I have an Intel i5-2500 with 16 gig of ram and an AMD Radeon 7870. I do have all those installed. R2-Library FF Library and OpensceneryX are requirements for the World2XPlane scenery anyway. I don't think the HD mesh had any effect here though since as far as I know the photo scenery from simHeaven has it's own mesh.
  20. Great news - the view distance limitation was one of the things that annyed me the most.
  21. Yup, Uwe - that's the discussion I was referring to. Great shots btw. I think the combination of real house models (instead of facades) plus the tree lines that follow roads, rivers and even field borders is what makes Toni's tool absolutely stunning and much better then OSM2XP.
  22. Since I noticed a discussion in an other forum regarding how much manual scenery tweaking was involved I thought I'd clarify what I did: I installed the experimental OSM scenery file from simHeaven (no manipulation or modification at all). I picked the one around Stuttgart because that's close to where I live. I installed the corresponding photo scenery from simHeaven (well - actually it was already installed ). I applyed some of the raleigh scattering tweaks (in fact I think it is exactly the setting as described in this post). That's it - no hand tweaking at all. I guess I am just lucky and the OSM data around my area is pretty decent.
  23. If you download the tool then you will probably have to start to tinker. But there are scenery files available that somone else already generated using this tool. If you donwload those (like I did) there is no more tinkering onvolved then installing the scenery file (which means you have to unzip a file to the custom scenery folder - that's all). To see what areas are available as scneery files you can have a look here.
