How important is the GPU, for real?
Ryan, I recently upgraded my nvidia 470 and got a GTX 780. I got a big bump in FPS probably a 25% increase, even though I turned up the display settings. I have less stuttering and the sim generally runs well. I think you will defiantly be notice a performance increase if you choose to upgrade, get the best graphics card you can afford.

To P3d or not to P3d
There was a pre-release demo for FSX that included a small area around st maarten. I don't remember if that demo supported 3rd party addons, but I'm fairly sure you couldn't test addons in that demo. FSX is so cheap these days many people get it for free. I got a second copy from a mate who got it for free with a laptop he bought.

To P3d or not to P3d
I've been using FSX since it was released, mostly because of the lack of addons that suit my taste X-plane has never been an option. In my view P3D V2.2 is a completely different sim than FSX. About 4 months ago, I decided P3D was matured enough for my use to replace FSX. The list of improvements in P3D v2.2 are many but I'm gonna list the ones that, in my view, matter the most to the end user. Hopefully I won't forgett any. The graphics engine has been completely rewritten. It now support DX11, and the sim is able to unleash the power found in modern graphics card. Because of this I bought a Nvidia GTX780 and was really impressed by the result. You get all kinds of visual treats that just isn't technically possible in FSX. If I'm not mistaken effects like HDR/glare/realistic aircraft self shadows does not give such a big negative FPS hit due to DX11. Some addons look better in P3D because of, like the Airbus X Extended A320/A321(This is just a screenshot I took that show the cockpit of the A321). P3D is more stable than FSX ever was. Some unlucky few does encounter problems but for the majority of user P3D is alot more stable. I like doing medium/long flights like EDDF to OMDB and sometimes KJFK to EDDF. For long flight a stable sim improves the experience imensly. Not all addons are available for P3D yet, but that list is growing fast. FS dream team, fly tampa, REX, Active Sky Next, Carenado, Aerosoft, ORBX, the list goes on. more people are already migrating to P3D and addon makers are recognizing this. Sometimes updates from P3D can cause unexpected problems with addons, but those are fixed as soon the addon developer brings an update. Since the FSX hasn't been patched since ACC/SP2 this wasn't really a problem before. If you have an old computer you won't get much improvements on performance, but if you a modern computer with a powerful GPU and CPU, P3D is better equipped to utilize that power. My current P3D installation has been setup with very few problem, and little to none tweaking. In that respect i'm kind of a casual simmer, I prefer to fly rather than spending hours editing CFG files. I have off course touched the setting provided inside the sim, but I haven't touched the CFG files. P3D just works, and really good too. That the main reason I jumped from FSX to P3D

Global Scenery For P3D v2.2
Hi, I'm looking into getting global scenery for P3D. I have done some research but since P3D v2 is fairly new there isn't that much information available online. So, as much for myself as a reference for other looking at getting global coverage scenery, I would like to ask what options I have. Or rather, is there any alternative to FTX global? According to this link GEX is not and will not in the near future be available for P3D. So I guess GEX+UTX is not an option? I already own a few orbx regions, but FTX global + FTX Vector is an expensive addon so any opinions would be helpful.

BBS A330 about to release
I've flown the BBS A330 now and offcourse it isn't anything like a PMDG, but the only A330 worth buying except for the BBS one is going to be Flightsimlabs A330 and they are not even done with the A320. If they complete the A320 this year they'll need another two years on the A330. So untill 2015 or whenever the FSL A330 comes out I'll use the BBS A330 B)

BBS A330 about to release
After reading this thread I've come to teh conclusion that most of you think the BBS A330 is better than the Wilco airbus series. So on that basis I'm gonna buy the A330 and see what's it's like. It's already as "good" as a wilco and it can only get better right? I would wait for the Flightsimlabs A330 but that won't be released for many years. I will fly the BBS A330 and report back my findings

Anyone have problems installing PMDG md11 in P3D 1.4?
I managed to install the md11 in P3D v1.2 without problems. I also managed to install md11 in 1.4 by using fsx reg utility, but when I try to load the md11 I now get "A fatal error occurred" and get the following log if I check the problem details. I've done some googling but can't find a definite answer. The majority of possible solutions I find are for fsx and not P3D. Does one know how to get this working? any help would be appreciated Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: Prepar3D.exe Application Version: 1.4.4747.0 Application Timestamp: 50253a53 Fault Module Name: PMDG_MD11_ACS.DLL Fault Module Version: 10.0.61355.62 Fault Module Timestamp: 49b67635 Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 0000a3a9 OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1 Locale ID: 2057

Is Flight Just a Stepping Stone
I think the younger and the non hardcore MS Flight users quickly get tired of flying props. They will want to move to jets and that will lead them to fsx, I think...

Number of MS Flightsimmers
interesting discussion, I think the 40 000 number is abit too small. maybe correct when calculating potential costumers but not total amount of FS users. Just for fun i checked the Vatsim forum and it has 209178 registered users. this forum have 85,770. Offcourse not all of these users are active but they probably have more interest in flight simulation than the casual simmer/gamer
