  1. It took me a while to get a happy balance where realism doesn't inconvenience me. FSBuild helped alot with that since once you have a fuel profile, it calculates the fuel at the same time as exporting the flight plan. It does only work with ActiveSky or REX not Opus though when I last checked. Although you could add a "weather reserve" I always use random payload too, that is realistic to me more than making something up - its like someone else is giving it.
  2. You don't need it for takeoffs alone, it does some more than that which is overkill for me. I didn't buy it because of the lack of support for most recent addons. Personally I prefer a single tool for all of my airliners. Unfortunately Topcat only supports the NGX and MD-11 in my hangar. The free Utopia however works with all my airliners. It does these things for me: -shows runway lengths for any airport -auto calculates headwind/tailwind component for any takeoff -inputs weather data automatically into the takeoff calculation -gives me a derate and assumed temp -tells me if the takeoff is performance limited and a bad idea. I feel alot of people don't use Utopia because either they don't know about it, or they don't have it setup properly. It gives me everything I need that is missing from FSBuild for entering into the FMS/FMC/MCDU. I even us it on descent to match the runways to the wind on the ATIS and check they are long enough, before I even look at any charts I've chosen the runway if no ATC. It doesn't come with every profile you have to find some throughout the interwebs of various FS forums but I will send my collection of profiles if anyone needs. Also note you can update the runways data by copying a file from the navigraph updates so it always matches.
  3. QW Avros, A2A Mustangs, MCEs new supported aircraft, and freeware - the Directx10 fixes and BT-67
  4. Man I never have these kind of adventures, most times I end up on Unicom when the controller logs off after I'm about ready for takeoff. Or worse I have to fly offline due to distractions... I need to fly in the US I think to experience some of this fun, you should be happy it's certainly not getting boring hey
  5. Sure no prob, someone else requested them before so I've just updated the file on dropbox. I had one problem flight where controls went funny after the control check, and I removed the controls check from the pre-flight. In hindsight I don't think it was related, so you might want to add that back in if you want it, or maybe keep your own for the cockpit preparation first flow as mine is cut down. Here it is: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/29331868/MCE%20MD-11%20new%20flows.rar I'm slowly editing the others to be in a similar format as it's easy for me to follow similar flows when switching planes
  6. So like 80% traffic and still no performance issues? That's really good I might buy this. Also I notice half my aircraft lights don't work in DX10 so hopefully shockwave lights will fix that too
  7. Hi Guys My dx10 setup is running along nicely, with GA and warbirds running at least 30fps and complex airliners like the NGX about 23-25fps. However I've hit a snag on the ERJ. For some reason it's stuck at 17-18fps. My CPU and Video card are not maxing out, so it's not my system holding it back but something config related or programming related. Does anyone else run the ERJ with directx10? What is your experience with it compared to the other addons?
  8. War Thunder is new to me, it looks similar to world of tanks like an experience points and tech-tree based game? I do have a couple of tanks in world of tanks and I see similar numbers online there like 5k-10k players online. When I referred to WW2 sims though in my mind I was thinking of IL-2 and CLOD. Typically there's a maximum number quite low to each server, each server is player run, and quite a few servers are there but nothing like you mentioned in war thunder. Probably something like only 5-6 servers busy and 5-30 players in each server. War thunder being that busy it must really have something going for it. I understand the game aspect being fun having played WOT, but how is the "sim" aspect? I can enjoy WOT occasionally because I know it's a game and never played a tank sim fully, but coming from sims I'd probably have trouble going backwards to a plane game. With 100 models available, it would be hard to pulloff a high level of simulation detail considering CLOD was almost a failure with a fraction of that number. If they can pull it off though, you'll see me online in game soon The numbers I see on VATSIM are about 500 flights at any one time. IVAO I'm not sure of but probably slightly less, as VATSIM I would guess is more popular. I don't really play the gamespy multiplayer FSX so I'm not sure how busy that part is.
  9. That's it exactly, the multiplayer.. dogfighting against a computer is not a challenge but bring in the human element and we rise to competition. Combat sims combine simming with competitive gaming really. Gun fighting especially. When you move up to say the era of DCS and missiles it moves more towards procedures and simming again because of complexity. But the more basic level Gunfight sims allow them to market also to gamers - a bigger market. Which didn't turn out so well for some developers
  10. I prefer WW1 as you can tell from my Avatar and my 1500 hours logged in rise of flight multiplayer. It's just more "fun" as a game, very little instruments, very stick and rudder skill, more diverse unique flight models (every plane is a new innovation with quirks), and the best dogfighting sim is available. Unfortunately for WW2 all the new sims are not very good. Whereas ROF is excellent, that is if you turn up at the right time for the events and historic missions. But civ simming is still more popular, the number of online Vatsim and Ivao flights online is more than that of IL-2 for instance.
  11. Cool, how's the performance? What level of UT2 traffic sliders?
  12. Yeah use the flight1 installer to get the license right. Did you test the Garmin trainer?
  13. That demonstration looks REALLY cool. I think it would be a bit of work to do, they would have to figure an interface to it and another "mode" but it would be real nice if they did. You can control the "buttons" of the RXP using MCE though by using the RXP key mapping file combined with voxkey at the moment already though, but that's not as good. Personally I've got mine mapped to the Saitek radio panel rotary when DME is displayed (since DME doesn't use the rotary).
  14. Hi mate, Have you installed the fixes here: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/387343-the-how-to-doc/ I don't think it's needed for RXP but it's a must. For the Turbine Duke and RXP, I just loaded it up with my FSX DX10 and it's working fine. I don't think it's a DX10 issue, it might just be a misconfiguration in the Duke. You can look at my settings if it helps but I have the unlimited pack with two 500s. From [VCockpit01]: gauge19=rxpGNS!GNS530, 1, 660, 504, 364 gauge20=rxpGNS!GNS530_2, 506, 660, 504, 364 From the windows at the bottom: [Window01] type=special window_pos=0.739583,0.000000 window_size=0.260417,0.300000 visible=0 ident=15531 zorder=99 gauge00=rxpGNS!GNS530,0,0,100,100 [Window02] type=special window_pos=0.739583,0.700000 window_size=0.260417,0.300000 visible=0 ident=15532 zorder=99 gauge00=rxpGNS!GNS530_2,0,0,100,100 [Window05] position=0 window_size=0.031250,0.018750 visible=1 ident=15000 zorder=100 gauge00=rxpDrop!Stack,0,0,100,100 Also the RXP ini files should be there. Ideally if you install RXP correctly using the flight1 installer, and use the Duke config tool to setup it should work automatically..
  15. Hi Guys, Just switched to DX10 with the fixes, amazing on my box! Anyway for AI I'm interested in the fix for UT2 aircraft lights i.e. this one (http://www.bleedair.de/ultimate-traffic-2-fsx.html) Has anybody done it, and my main question is: What is the impact on FPS? I like to run lots of traffic, but if the lights are all now 3D for ALL my traffic, isn't that going to cause a big performance decrease?
  16. I've uploaded my Saitek SPAD configurations and the FSUIPC scripts if anyone wants to use them here: https://dl.dropbox.c... and FSUIPC.rar Please take BACKUPS of all of your SPAD and FSX\Modules folders before changing anything. This is of course totally unsupported and you will need to do some config to copy these in, but once you've copied one aircraft the rest will come easy. Note that I always map the TRIM wheel to vertical speed / IAS since I have a Saitek trim wheel separately. So you will need to revert that in SPAD if you use my configs. Hope this helps. NOTE: Many of the lua scripts are copies from Guenter's LINDA, they are not the same as LINDA so they're unsupported but I appreciate Guenter's work to let us interface these
  17. Very much looking forward to Bathurst and the New Zealand airports
  18. That's ok for me, I'll make a new one when MCE adds support. But you might want to upload it for others to use.
  19. Cool stuff. On the FO checks, I turned them off because it's an unsupported plane (in the ini). But maybe after it's supported I might turn them back on. I'll be converting this into flows + checks when support is developed, it will be a fun plane with an FO and easy to handle some really short fast routes.
  20. I hope you weren't busting for the toilet lol. Makes you appreciate the benefits of having a Tower controller when they're there, instead of someone that has to share the load. Clearances can take some time, thankfully I've been on the ground mostly when waiting to get a word in during clearances. That also makes me think I should be careful planning my extra and hold fuel. Normally I only have enough fuel for maybe 3 go arounds max.
  21. That's what I call constructive criticism, nice looking GUI! I haven't used FSCaptain since a demo a long time ago, but it looks like it's going places I may look at it again in future.
  22. Thanks for this! Now I can get all my switches working properly instead of toggling. Cheers
  23. Hi Guys, Using Guenter's excellent scripts we are able to access them from FSUIPC to make it work. Also there are FSUIPC mouse macros. The combination lets us get 90% of things to work. It does take some effort, but it's possible. Not all of the switches have been programmed because some are not applicable, eg no cowl flaps in airliners. Also some switches are not able to be programmed fully because only toggles are available. E.g. QW Avro RJ, my light switches will only toggle the buttons on or off. The aircraft I have going with SPAD, plus a combination of either FSUIPC mouse macros and/or Guenter's scripts are: PMDG MD-11 (scripts and macros) PMDG NGX (actually this is native in SPAD) PMDG J41 (scripts) Turbine Duke (cowl switches) Simcheck A300 QW Bae 146 Avro RJs Flight1 Cessna Mustang A2A P-51 Mustang Civ/Mil The aircraft I have tried and FAILED to control are the Captainsim 707 & 727. Although I understand 757 & 767 are possible. Using SPAD Profiles I setup a profile for each of my addons that don't work by default: Then assign joystick and buttons to to the functions: In FSUIPC.ini turn on these settings in the general section: UseProfiles=Yes ShortAircraftNameOk=Substring In FSUIPC.ini add the profiles to the bottom of the file: [Profile.F1_Cessna_Mustang] 1=F1_Cessna_Mustang [Profile.TDuke] 1=Duke Turbine [Profile.Catalina] 1=PBY-5 2=PBY-6 [Profile.P51D] 1=P-51D 2=Mustang Mark [Profile.QW Bae 146 Avro] 1=QWSim Avro [Profile.SimCheck A300B4] 1=SimCheck A300B4 [Profile.PMDG J41] 1=PMDG Jetstream 41 2=PMDG J41 3=PMDG J-41 [Profile.PMDG 737NGX] 1=Boeing 737- 2=PMDG 737- 3=FlyDubai [Profile.MD-11] 1=PMDG MD-11 The names under the profiles correspond to keywords it will find in the variants/liveries name from the aircraft.cfg. If it finds a plane with those words in it's name it will use that profile. In FSUIPC, I go to the buttons tab and tick use profile. Then I push the various Saitek buttons and map them to lua scripts or mouse macros. The mouse macros I made myself just with the FSUIPC gui. The scripts I copied from LINDA and edited them to simplify them and allow them to be accessed by parameters. It does take some time, but thanks to all three of SPAD, LINDA scripts, and FSUIPC itself this is possible.
  24. On VATSIM it's a must. Sure there are sometimes no controllers, and there are button push options out there like Radar Contact. But the times VATSIM is busy makes up for the rest. No AI ATC can assign you a STAR and approach as you descend like VATSIM, and no AI can switch runways on you at the last minute due to a runway incursion etc. you can't replace a human . You can simulate MAYDAY calls or anything you want within VATSIM, I heard an engine failure MAYDAY just last week, the guy had to be vectored to the nearest airport.
