  1. Well, for the last 2, all you had to do was start at the airport and walk to them. The first one (the volcano) I flew to from the closest airport, which is my normal procedure. I would hope the future ones would be more like this.
  2. Update -- also looked for the DC-3 "near Reindeer Lake" and again found nothing. The only online reference I found for a crashed/derelict DC-3 near a Reindeer Lake was in Canada, not Alaska.
  3. Yeah, this last one at Tatitna was pretty lame, yet they gave it a difficulty of 2? What would be a 1? If they plop you right down on top of it?!? :Waiting:
  4. It appears that the only saving grace (if the "fake" cockpit is accurate) is that it comes with a single VOR indicator, so at least it's able to find its way. The Icon-ish GPS is pretty much useless window dressing. I'll wait and see what others think after they've bought it, especially if there are no ski or float versions.
  5. I've seen the DC-3 at the airport, but I've been to where the bomber should be, and there's nothing there. If anyone finds it, post a pic of it and map pic please?
  6. Wow... That anomaly at Elmendorf is pretty impressive.
  7. There are fly-under-able bridges all over the place. We're found a couple of them that don't exactly touch land at the ends. :LMAO:
  8. I find that if I get into Flight and start my plane moving -- even if just a few mph on a taxiway -- before I start GMap, it avoids that problem.
  9. Starting in the Hangar, I use Distance + 10% and ignore the copilot. For clandestine missions, I use Distance * 2 since I travel well off the direct route.
  10. The Flight Team had me do the same thing when the last update broke the game on my system. Since the procedure didn't trash my Career directories, when I re-installed I still had all my missions and stats as they were before. When I bought Alaska, I bought it thru GFWL. HOWEVER, the Steam version was very buggy on my system, frequently crashing on startup. For different reasons, I disabled Anti-Aliasing, and the startup crashes have since stopped. Weird...
  11. The pre-takeoff checklist needs a couple more steps: Obtain large wrench. Beat copilot into unconsciousness. Continue with remaining checklist.
  12. LOL that little "circle" island actually has a hill on it -- made of water. It's fun driving the Icon uphill in the water.
  13. Interesting goof there. I wonder how it really looks, like compared between Flight and GMap? BTW, what was the time of year setting? Winter?
  14. So when are they going to fix the all the airports with tall trees at the ends?
  15. Got it working and made my first flight plan (thanks) but with one weird anomaly... I have to run it full-screen. If I try it windowed, when I pass my cursor over the right edge of the Plan-G window, it crashes. (?)
  16. It resets it again if you push glance again in top-down view.
  17. Well, at Maule price, it's not so attractive: Does it come with a decent GPS? If it helps me find the small airstrips out there, it's useful. But if it's just like the toy one that comes with the Icon, it's pretty much useless. How about Maule/RV-6-style Nav radios? With skis? That's nice, but the way snow is modeled, any aircraft can land on it anyway. With floats? Also nice... but what would I use it for? The seaplane bases have no missions.
  18. I do occasional burger runs too just as a "check out the landscape" thing. I also do cargo/pax jobs, but skip to waypoint for the longer ones. Also I sometimes just find an interesting area of valleys and gorges and fly through them down low just for the scenery. For pax/cargo missions I use SkyVector to check out the route, see if there are mountains to avoid or valleys to follow, and find out the orientation of the destination runways, length, and altitude. I've also used SkyVector for designing routes for group flights. My fav plane is the RV-6, and I use the Maule for cargo/pax runs. I used the Icon for a group flight through the fjords, but I'm disappointed that there are no missions for it at seaplane bases. I occasionally use the Corsair if I want to explore an area quickly with good visibility. I'm actually having second thoughts about whether or not I'll buy the "cockpit Cub" whenever it comes out. If it's dirt cheap, no issue. But if it costs as much as the Maule I'm not so sure. If it has a decent GPS and other nav instruments I might be swayed. But paying $15 or more for a slower version of the Maule doesn't appeal to me. (I would define "decent" GPS as one that helps me find those tiny airports that are a b*tch to find otherwise.)
  19. Thank you, that was exactly the point. In one case, I'd be paying for a single download. In the other, I'd be paying twice and getting jerked around.
  20. You're not the only one. Actually I'm annoyed at having to pay again for something that should have been included in the first place. Paying $20 for Alaska with a decent plane would have been fine. Paying $15 for Alaska (with a half-assed Cub) and another $5 for a "fixed" Cub just ticks me off.
  21. Getting my achievements isn't the problem -- I get them re-issued 2-3 times a week. It takes several minutes to blink and bleep through all the achievements it's re-awarding me time and again. Grr...
  22. There's some pretty interesting detailed scenery in Kodiak -- container ship; Coast Guard cutters; stop signs; folding chair & butt can outside one building; push broom leaning against a wall. Half the aircraft don't have cockpits, but at least the recycling bins look good. :Waiting:
  23. There are a few handling differences we noted flying in mixed groups, and some speed differences... The Mustang is about 10 kts faster above 10,000 ft, and 30-40 kts faster below 10,000 (straight and level flight). The Mustang is also more nimble, but loses much more speed in a turn. And it needs much more runway for takeoff/landing than the Corsair. If I want to go exploring in a straight line, I'll choose the Mustang -- but for buzzing around the airdrome, I'll use the Corsair. (Of course, that being said, I spend very little time in either, given that they have no cockpits or instruments I need.)
  24. I use SkyVector for a lot of things. It's not so an immersion issue to me, as I would tend to do the flight planning before I get in the aircraft, especially things like the orientation of the destination runways; terrain heights here, there and in between; should I go around the mountains or over them; are there cool looking valleys in between, etc.
