  1. Thanks for getting back Steve. Very helpful. It looks like AM=84 is the only one that works well for me as both 85 and 116 seem to bring with them the 8 minute freeze. I should have mentioned that I am flying the MADDOG as it is such a wonderful product with such a tiny VAS footprint for FSX. So I am flying largely at 350 watching the terrain go by. I found today that in addition to the tweaks I mentioned earlier, I now have frame rate unlimited and that seems to give me the smoothest visuals. The frame rate still has the dips we discussed but somehow it is less noticeable. Also I should have mentioned that I am running stop_wait_swap (or whatever it is) = 2. What is your opinion on that one? Thanks again Rick
  2. Hello Steve: I came across your work here in my research to understand the "stutters" I thought I have with FSX on my rig. 4790k @4.4 970 GTX 4 Gig 8 Gig DDR3 1860 RAM 2 TB hard drive FSX with GEX, UTX, all traffic @20%, UT2, ASN, FSUIPC, and many freeware and payware airports. Tweaks to fsx.cfg Highmemfix=1 AM=84 TFF=.33 (Default) frames pegged at 30 internally LOD=5.5 Texture_Bandwidth_whatever=160 In the sim: Sliders all pegged to the right except very dense Autogen and water at 2.0 low Anti-aliasing tic Filtering highest Frames at 30. My question is regarding your graphs above. As I said above, I was having what I thought were stutters and was searching the Forum to see what I might find. In fact what I was seeing in my system looked exactly like your plots. If one would watch the frame rate display (shift + z) the frames would set at 30, 29.5, and so forth but then if we counted 1000, 1001, 1002, 1003, the frames would for a second dip to 16, 18, something like that. So fast back to 30 that it could easily be missed. Looked like your plots. So after all that, here is my question: Is that dip in the frames simply a feature of the processing which cannot be overcome by tweaks? BTW, based on your and other remarks in this incredibly useful thread, I went to Bufferpools=1 Poolsize = 2000 This made a noticeable difference. Thank you and best regards, Rick
  3. Thank you for the simple explanation for us lay folks :)
  4. I never buy anything in this domain until it has been released long enough to have all the gripes found and all the hot fixes, revs, updates, etc. issued.
  5. This is actually a great thread. It clearly demonstrates why there are so many guys sitting there and having a great time FLYING (not looking at scenery) with FS9.
  6. Thank you for your help but sadly I uninstalled this aircraft and moved on. Just too weird on my system, and I emphasize on my system.
  7. Get the GTN in there and I start to be very interested. Beautiful job.
  8. Hardest aircraft I've ever tried. I'll try your suggestion on the controls but I hate to mess with my control settings when it affects my entire hanger. The torque factor is really pronounced. I bent a prop today doing a crosswind landing. I must be doing something wrong with the power. I close the throttle to idle but even then it doesn't shed airspeed fast enough. Maybe I should be adjusting the prop somehow. I fly the Duke and have no trouble at all. I love flying high wings aircraft with the great view but this one may be just too hard.
  9. Hey all: Well, I got the aircraft working but man on my system it is the most squirrelly I have ever flown and I have probably 15000 hrs over 20 years on various flightsims. First takeoff she nearly inverted when clear of the runway. So I reduced the torque and gyro sliders in FSX and that helped. Now I can make a respectable takeoff and transition to climb. Landings are a joke. No matter how slow I come over the fence (60-70 kts according to the manual), the aircraft floats down the runway and when touching down, bounces like a golf ball on concrete. I guess this is just a mismatch on my system. Back to the Duke. Oh well, not so bad.
  10. Thanks very much to all. It was exactly as each of you described. I executed the configurator as administrator, then launched Shift + 3, and bingo!! There was the GTN and it works perfectly. Thanks once again all!! Rick
  11. Hi all: I'm asking this question here as I just can't figure out how to register on their web page to ask them. So I purchased the aircraft and installed it. All went smooth. Then I ran the configurator and selected the F1 GTN 750 option. I own the F1 GTN and have it installed on numerous aircraft. The C182 shows up on the F1 GTN configurator. So everything looks good. Checking the panel folder, everything looks ok there. The aircraft loads fine and looks good except it is showing the default GPS instead of the GTN. I've tried reinstalling it and I've searched through the A2A forum with no success. So has anyone seen this, or have any ideas? Thanks
  12. I am in the habit of flights 2-3 hrs in length with the Lear 35 and a good deal of that time I am away from the sim working on other things. These flights are typically at FL410 and above. Twice in the last 6 months or so I have returned to the sim just in time to avoid the aircraft crashing to earth (water). After much thought I believe I have suffered high altitude stalls. As one travels along the route of flight the Wx (ASN) changes, the temperature in particular, as I fly in the Caribbean most of the winter and on up to the lower half of the US, and the engine thrust changes. I believe what has happened is the thrust changes at that control setting and a stall results. Ok, so here's the question. On the kneeboard Vmo is given as .75 Mach. Maneuvering speed is given as 195-245 kts IAS depending on weight. If you're pretty heavy, let's say TO weight at 18,000 lb, you can easily arrive at FL400 + around 17000 lb. Barber pole is at around .85 Mach. So to have a reasonable margin to Maneuvering (stall) I need to fly at around .80 Mach as IAS at .75 Mach, FL410, T= -33 C, is around 225 kts, which could be right at or below Maneuvering Speed, risking a high altitude stall. Haven't looked at it at higher yet but as we all know this aircraft can climb! Would it be considered poor airmanship to exceed Vmo to have a margin against high altitude stall?

    Fed Up

I've been doing exactly that since FS 98 and never looked back. Once I achieve stability I change nothing, especially Windows. Wprks for me.
  14. Well, my bad I guess. This morning I made a flight from HOT to PQI. I started the flight in a C & D cockpit with just enough ambient light from the surroundings to make out the switches so that went well. After turning on the batt I tried the taxi light but couldn't see it illuminating the ground. However, after going through the prep routine and starting the engines, voila the lights work fine. So I'm wondering whether the lights will not work until the generators are running? Guess I missed that in the docs. Anyway all is well now. Thanks Rick
  15. Could someone please suggest a fix for this? It seems the Lear taxi and landing lights cannot be seen from the cockpit and do not illuminate the runway or tarmac. From an outside view one can see a faint illumination on the ground and the lights are very bright if one looks at them from outside. But they do not illuminate the ground. The only other aircraft I have flown recently is the PMDG 737 NGX and those lights work fine. Any ideas?
  16. I totally understand as I am 2 years head of you. God bless.
  17. Yes, I've been practicing exactly that. Like being a blind squirrel looking for an acorn....sometimes I find one.
  18. Awww.... Cheating. Yes. Sometimes I zoom like 2.5 to "get my eyeball" right next to the switch to check the position Does that Tool Tips thingy actually have the labels for the Lear switches, or at least the batts? Hmmm. Good thought. I'll look at that. Thanks
  19. Hi All: This time of year I find myself starting flights especially early in the morning. I always start from cold and dark. And it is really dark outside . Any ideas on how to get enough light to find the batt switches and the light switches? What d you guys and gals do? On some aircraft I can hit Shift + L and the lights come on regardless of batt position. Not so with the Lear. I'd appreciate your thoughts. Rick
  20. Thanks Emile. Also, I believe I stumbled on another location. I went to Init Ref/Index/Nav Data and key in the VOR name on the right top, it produces the VOR data, including the freq. Just shows that even a blind squirrel finds a nut on occasion. Rick Messier
  21. Could someone please tell me how to obtain VOR freqs from the FMS? I know they are in there but I can't seem to locate the page where they reside. I checked the docs but didn't see it. I'm talking about VORs not waypoints on the active flight plan.I know where to find the waypoint freqs. Thanks Rick Messier
