  1. Oh really? Yes I was using ETOPS rings. That's interesting, I'll have to try that
  2. This is strange. I've been trialing things, and found VAS to not be my culprit. I'm currently 2hrs out from Melbourne with 2.4GB recorded VAS in Process Explorer (after 13hrs of flying from Los Angeles) - and frames jumping between 20-30. Why? Even if I have plenty of memory space left in FSX's operational limits?
  3. Cut my recent livestream into a departure video out of Brisbane for Canberra. Aircraft is the PMDG 737 NGX.
  4. Is that TFDI smartCARS by any chance that allows a shut down and reconnect?
  5. I'll have to give that a go. I've now migrated to DX10, so hopefully that will help with VAS. Just two queries (double checks really) though: your PIREP in ACARS won't be affected? And saving the flight in the default FSX save flight will also save the PMDG panel state? Much appreciated
  6. Cool I'm still running in DX9, but having heaps of issues in the 777 on arrival (low FPS). I run a 4670k @ 4.2GHz and a GTX760 OC, yet it still can dip into the mid teens after 10+ hours of flying. What sort of specs do you run?
  7. Nice shots! Overall good impression of DX10 after that one? How are the FPS after a long flight like that in comparison to DX9?
  8. I should probably add that I was using the PMDG 777.
  9. Hi, I don't know if this is simply a limitation of FSX itself, or an issue with my system, but I've found that performance greatly suffers nearing the end of a long haul flight. For example, I just flew the LAX-AKL leg. 30fps stable at LAX, but on approach into Auckland my frames were dipping into the mid teens and low 20's. You can see my specs on the right, and I don't run a crap PC. Is there something wrong in my configuration of FSX? Or is this just an issue with the core program? Many thanks in advance
  10. A quick video of the takeoff out of JFK. Modified the time as it was about midnight New York local time (I'm from Sydney). http://youtu.be/iBBC0-3EiXE
  11. Yeah it is interesting. It's just that it can be almost impossible to see the taxiways at Melbourne at night because of this issue. Oh well, may have to just cope. Thanks Ryan
  12. Thanks Ryan, but it is equally as noticeable at default airports.
  13. Thanks all for the help. What confuses me though is what changed that made this happen - not sure why I didn't notice it before. I'll have to live with it I guess - DX10 seems to clear up any sort of landing light colour banding. Regards
  14. Ah ok. Thanks for that, but I could swear that after installing my sim, that 16bit effect was hardly noticeable (if at all).
  15. Hi, I recently built my new PC (specs on my profile) and upgraded from FS9 to FSX. For some weeks now, I've just been putting up with the following issue: Firstly, FSX is running in 32-bit colours, as is my GPU and Windows 7. Secondly, both FSX, Windows 7 and my GPU are running the same 1920x1080 resolution. I've gone through countless threads saying 'turn on 32-bit colours' and 'make sure your resolution is the same', but could not find anything helpful. The above picture is at ORBX YMML - and all the taxiways are ground textures. When at a normal addon airport (eg. FSDT KLAX), I still get colour banding around my lights. What I have gathered is that this is an FSX programming issue. Is there a fix to this? Something I missed? Because it feels as if the first few night flights I did, there were no issues. I don't remember how or when it started to look like this, or became more noticeable. I have rebuilt the FSX,cfg, rebuilt the shaders, and also fiddled with GPU settings. I've tried as much as I can without luck, and am hoping someone could shed some light onto the issue for me. Many thanks in advance! Brendan
  16. Good to hear! Once some more of the bugs are ironed out in P3D and developers support it more, I'll be leaving FSX behind. Do you find there's any FPS difference between the two? It seems mileage varies greatly between systems - some improve, some decline. It may just be one of those things that you just have to have the luck of the draw! Actually, that first shot was departing out of New York...so not as scary as having to capture a localizer in the prop! Luckily the weather cleared in Dulles, but boy does fog look fantastic with ActiveSky Next. A real game changer! I almost hunt for bad weather now just to watch my wing disappear in the clouds Speaking of you living in the area, I gotta say that its a very nice place. I visited DC back in 2010, and really like both the airport and area. I definitely wanna return soon! Thanks, Brendan
  17. Thanks all! Much appreciated
  18. I had just bought the scenery this morning - that was my first flight into there from JFK. It is absolutely amazing looking scenery for sure. I'm gonna stick with FSX for the time being. Once P3D has some bugs ironed out and has more developer support, I'll be jumping ship from FSX. I assume you meant 'crab'? Because yeah, there was a pretty nice 15kt slight crosswind coming from the left. The Q400 sure does pick up the winds!
  19. A few shots inbound into Washington Dulles. Awesome Acitvesky Next fog
  20. No worries. I have no doubt you'll find it to be very nice scenery!
  21. No, that's just the limitations of FSX's internal jetway system. It happens with all sceneries using the default jetway modelling. If you use Aerosoft AES, you won't have this problem (but costs a fortune for all of your addon airports). I highly recommend the scenery! Even though I don't fly up in Europe very much. Thanks!
  22. Doing the short shuttle hop from Heathrow to Manchester. Addons: FTX Global +Vector AS2012 Aerosoft AXE UK2000 LHR and MAN
  23. A couple of pics from the aircraft arrival into Kahului before the outbound to Los Angeles.
