  1. I don't mean to be contentious here, but I just don't perceive a discernible advantage to higher fps rates in a flight sim. Perhaps I'm looking for the wrong thing, but if there's something specific I should look for please share. I can imagine that if I sit at the gate and a truck passes in front of the a/c and at right angles to my direction of view, yes, that would look different. But that kind of thing doesn't happen often in flight sim. I'm not suggesting that there isn't a perceptible difference under the right circumstances, but those instances don't seem to arise when I use MSFS. That's odd, but the developer says "no" https://github.com/Nukem9/dlssg-to-fsr3/issues/14https://github.com/Nukem9/dlssg-to-fsr3/issues/14 But as I scroll down the page, some of the users dispute the developer's position. We have all seen lots of instances in which something that is supposed to work does not, but precious few in which something that a developer says won't work actually does. This may be one of those, I guess. May 2024 bring even more!
  2. One caveat: this does not work with HDR according to the GitHub site. I'll give this a pass until then, as I enjoy the HDR image quality so much and am typically getting 50 fps or even more with the default arrangement. Plus my monitor won't run above 60 Hz anyway. Honestly, I can't much tell when I'm running 60 fps vs 30 fps, so there's no point in reaching for anything faster. Must be all those years I spent looking at 30Hz screens.
  3. Announcement is here https://forum.pmdg.com/forum/main-forum/general-discussion-news-and-announcements/276106-17dec23-your-weekend-pmdg-news-update-some-small-some-big#post276132 Let the speculation begin!
  4. Somewhere in these forums, there is a posting that explains that the devs made the decision to implement the default MSFS nosewheel steering in the various 737 models. Previously, there had been a custom steering module created specifically for those a/c, but successive SUs broke that custom function, so we went back to the default system. I can understand why PMDG decided not to maintain the custom function, because its maintenance was wasting precious development resources in repeatedly fixing something that was working properly. Of course, this description requires that my own memory of the circumstances is working correctly . Over the years, I have found that this is less and less the case. It's not so much what I have forgotten, but rather what I think I remember that never happened. Have a happy holiday season, everyone, and best wishes for a most successful 2024.
  5. We do? I haven't seen anyone post that this app works at all, much less reliably, and we've already had a highly experienced professional developer tell us that this can be an inherently dangerous (to the extent that anything can actually be dangerous in flight sim) methodology for interacting with MSFS itself. So how do we know that it its probably not a difficult thing to do?
  6. It's my understanding that all assists need to be turned off for the 737 family. As the Yaw Damper is turned on before taxi and turned off at the arrival gate, it's not clear why one would want to use Auto Rudder in any case. Good luck. EDIT: typo
  7. Yes, indeed, one does need to install the models into the Community folder and a .vmr file is placed in an appropriate folder set up for vPilot to provide model matching for vPilot. No separate injection app is required. vPilot doesn't seem to be much of a resource hog compared to the usual injection software, at least in my experience. I should try a comparison again because things change. When I do, I will report back here.
  8. Nope. Too resource intensive and quite distracting because of its mediocre quality. I prefer to run 4K HDR with what is otherwise a fairly modest system. If I want traffic and ATC, I log into VATSIM.
  9. Official folder is at 280 GB, but I don't have many of the WUs installed other than US, UK, and Canada. Anglocentric, I guess. When I do install a different WU, I remove it when I stop flying in that region. Community folder is less than 1 GB at the moment and includes only the Navigraph files plus one utility, the one that makes it easy to select and display sim rate acceleration. This folder was larger in the recent past, but MSFS wouldn't finish loading after the latest SU, so Community was moved elsewhere and only the essentials will be installed as needed. Previously, the Community folder ran around 50 GB. Advantages of this "diet" include reasonable load times (2:15 to the Welcome/Profile/Options screen), and excellent stability. Performance has been excellent as well since the latest update, but heaven only knows what has caused that. I'm guessing that KISS applies to MSFS as it does to so much else in life.
  10. I should have noted that my test was performed after SU14. One thing that I have noticed is that the glass panels look quite nice with the updated DLSS file, and I no longer need to use GeForce Experience to scale and sharpen in order to achieve acceptable clarity and fps at 4K resolution. So overall, it seems to be a win even though the frame rate is similar.
  11. Got almost the identical result with a similar system. I guess the good news is that it's consistent. Bottom line is that on my system at least, there's no discernible advantage to using the most recent DLSS file.
  12. Indeed, much improved on DX12. Thanks for pointing it out.
  13. Good question. That's the configuration I run and I can't recall the last time I had a crash. Of course, this is the smallest of sample sizes (N = 1), so take it for what it's worth. I certainly haven't read a lot of forum posts anywhere from individuals running 16 GB PCs complaining about crash scenarios. That doesn't exclude the possibility that it might happen, but almost surely not on a regular basis.
  14. Here's the link https://forum.pmdg.com/forum/main-forum/general-discussion-news-and-announcements/273709-27nov23-pmdg-737-for-msfs-product-lines-updated-to-3-00-0085-tablet-updates-across-the-fleet#post273765 Looks like it's mainly focused on the tablet.
  15. Looks like half of us feel that the colors are washed out, the other half that they're oversaturated. Given the random variations in monitor calibration out there, I guess that FS2020 has the color rendition about right. With regard to the HDR calibration, I assume that we're only referring to those individuals who have HDR monitors and that they have turned on the Windows and FS2020 HDR functions. I purchased such a monitor about a year ago, and when I turned on HDR in FS2020, I was amazed by the result. Totally worth the cost/effort.
  16. Just guessing here, but KSNA's longest runway is around 5,700 ft. The EFB takes this into account, along with the weather, weight, etc. It doesn't say it explicitly, but in this case, you're probably runway length limited. Simbrief's MTOW represents the structural limit of the aircraft itself. Have a look at a detailed description at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maximum_takeoff_weight
  17. Alternatively, if you want to go back to a brand-new, straight from the factory airplane (this one time only, please), just follow these steps from the manual (FAQ 2-14 in the edition I have): That should get you restarted. Just to be clear, this refers to the settings page of the EFB. The AIRCRAFT STATS section is at the lower right. BTW, resetting the stats will take you through the preliminary setup in which you can select what kind of failures you want to deal with. I turned mine off the first few times around, just to avoid the sort of circumstance where I was hunting for a popped CB. After becoming more familiar with the aircraft and its systems, I'll turn them back on. Have a good weekend everyone.
  18. While PMDG certainly had the code base of earlier 737 family add-ons on which to build their MSFS versions, I believe that Fenix built its fine A320 on the earlier Prosim standalone simulator, the core of which currently runs on an external application linked to MSFS. Similarly, the Leonardo MD family was available in P3D prior to its release on MSFS. Have any MSFS high fidelity aircraft add-ons been developed totally from scratch in the relatively short time that MSFS has been in existence?
  19. If interested, you can find it at https://pmdg.com/documentation/ If you look closely at the PMDG forum site, you can find a subsection dedicated to the tablet https://forum.pmdg.com/forum/main-forum/pmdg-tablet Good news.
  20. HDR looks simply outstanding on a Dell monitor that is capable of its display. One downside is that there are a lot of buttons to press, both real and virtual, in order to get it properly activated. If you follow all the steps correctly (monitor HDR enabled, Windows 11 HDR on and calibrated, MSFS HDR enabled) the image comes alive. I think it's more of an improvement vs SDR than is 4K vs HD, but everyone's mileage is sure to vary on that. Have a great weekend everyone.
  21. Wow, I can't find one either, @Mike S KPDX. This should work better
  22. https://techraptor.net/gaming/features/microsoft-flight-simulator-2024-interview For what it’s worth I wasn’t able to find this posted here. Hopeful words about Microsoft’s extended commitment to the franchise…..
  23. I guess that can happen, but the user has the option to click on the wrench icon next to OPTIMIZE and choose among many positions on a slider that ranges from "Performance" to "Quality". I usually click one or two notches to the Quality side, but that's just a personal preference. It's close enough for government work, especially for someone who doesn't know what ambient occlusion might or might not be and really doesn't care.
