  1. As I said to the OP, everyone must find what works best for them. Myself, I'm exactly the opposite but for a different reason. Gigabyte boards just didn't seem as stable or last as long on severe OC's like the ASUS boards. To each their own!
  2. Oh, she ain't cramped... Before making the move to P3D, I had very few issues with my system. Framerate was great, and I received several "dislikes" under the old system when I asked "What's an OOM and how do you get one?" Yes, I went to NCP before every flight and selected "Use these GPU's as PhysX only" for the SLI set. Only NVIDIA has this PhysX engine, and it calculates physics for real-time impact and flight characteristics as well as other things. I don't pretend to fully understand it enough to explain it. Basically, it crunches the numbers for your sim physics calculations. Please see here. When playing SC or AC, I would switch cables and use the video outputs on the SLI set for video and the stand-alone 760 for PhysX. EDIT - I had PhysX turned on and my sim seemed to run smoother. Officially, PhysX isn't supported by FSX. Everyone here has to find their own "works best for me" solution. P3D is a DX11 sim, so my whole system is down right now waiting on a new cable and a triple SLI adapter. SLI doesn't help FSX, as you and I both said. But it does help P3D tremendously. There's a lot of individuals here who are hardware gurus. I say this without disrespect intended. Then, there are some in all forums (not just flight sim) who think they know everything. I have a pretty trick system, and I'm no kid. I've been building computers for gaming as a hobby since 1992. This system works because of several things - 1. a Sandy Bridge mobo running Ivy Bridge BIOS. That really helped me to expand my overhead on the system by taking the best of both worlds and putting in one unit. 2. 32mb of fast RAM and both the sim and the OS running on separate SSD's. Both drives are on my Intel fast I/O bus and not on the slower bus. Remember that with a 32Gb app, the bottleneck is the data path through the system. 3. A 3770K OC'd to 4.9GHz. Smokin'... 4. The GPU ONLY gives fast renders; it doesn't speed up FSX, but it can smooth out FSX. Two different things. This is my opinion based on my experience. 5. Read sentence #3 on item #2. This should be your mantra. Data through the system as fast as possible. 6. Look for these things - a mobo with the fastest data path you can find that you can afford - look at the number crunching abilities in the reviews, not the GPU framerates a mobo with fast, friendly OC abilities. I recommend ASUS ROG boards, it's all I use, many here will have an opinion otherwise. Read the reviews. ASUS and ASRock are leading the pack right now. The newest, fastest CPU and RAM you can afford, plus two fast SSD's and one 1TB mechanical drive. You want the future upgrade path, so read the white papers and developer news. Keep your pagefiles and user files on the mechanical drive. BTW, you don't need a Velociraptor, a 7200 RPM Seagate, WD, or Toshiba is fine. I use Seagate and WD. You will get more bang for your buck with a 760 or 770 overclocked than a Titan. Don't waste your $. Keep your pagefile small. Get a good power supply. I recommend Corsair. 850W minimum.
  3. Hi - Yes, it is in the slower slot on my Maximus IV Extreme -Z. Framerates are locked at 30FPS in heavy wx, unlimited in light wx. I "play" games as well, so the SLI set is running Splinter Cell Blacklist, Assassin's Creed, etc. My NI is using AA filtering. It's about a 1-2fps drop in the VC, no drop in external views. In FSX, the SLI set is running as Physx processing only...
  4. You can see my system specs in my profile. My framerate with the T7 has never ran below 27. If I remember correctly, FSX cannot use SLI, even with DX10, so FSX runs on my 3rd GTX760 with EVGA factory OC's. FSX config is set to GTX760.05 for that card, which occupies a slower slot on the mobo. I ran FSX with an FDS CDU, a CP Flight EFIS and MCP, and my framerates on the NGX never ran below 30 regardless of which airport/traffic add-ons. I even get 30 fps at a FB add-on airport with GSX running, ASN, REX, EFB, PFPX, etc running. Throughput on the mobo via SSD use with fast memory and a solid OC will return the best results for FSX.
  5. Dario, you are correct. My (indirect, I was in a hurry) point was that he could pretty much get any CPU he desired for around $200 or less. I appreciate you pointing out that the performance boost of the i7-4770K would be minimal. In most places I peruse, one would think the 4770 was the holy grail... Best, Kevin
  6. Umm... you can get most CPU's for around or under $200. Locally, the i7 4770K is $208.
  7. Toss that i5 and get and i7. Right now the benchmarks are only marginal between the 3770K and 4770K, 3770K is cheaper. OC the he!! out of it. Mine is running at 4.8GHz. Three GTX760's on board. Liquid cooling.
  8. "Well would you like me to PM my explanation so you can shot an unarmed in private where no one else can see or do you have the guts for me to post it so you can shot am unarmed man in public? Your call!" Wow... the bold are not always favored by luck. 'ware the axe that may befalleth ye... Whoops, my bad... Tom already lowered the boom...
  9. I know I won't get any hugs or rainbows, Kyle, but I kinda disagree with that. iFly has 737 P3D, going to get it and it will not be as nice at PMDG, but they (iFly) released a 737 for training. It DID cost more, like 40% more, but I get it all, 600 thru 900, and all three BBJ models. And FS2Crew... Edit - I would pay $100 to $125 for a P3D NGX. Only because of the fidelity of the sim in comparison to iFly.
  10. Hi, Rich... this is what I done.. I tossed FSX and reinstalled P3D. Jim, I hope you're under par on the course and appreciate your kind advice. I WILL get this sorted.
  11. Hi, Jim, Thanks, I've always used the setup and tweaking guides here and they've always worked. This time something is different. Like P3D stuck something in my C:\ or D:\ drive that isn't being deleted and I can't find it. I appreciate your advice, thanks. Here's the ASN issue. Say I look for airports with CB activity, last night was KMWM for example. So, I make a flight plan in ASN, KMWM ->KDAY as an example of what I did. I have the "waiting for simulator" at the bottom of ASN, and then after I start up FSX at KMWM, it's a clear sunny sky. Also, in picking the wx theme, there used to be an "Active Sky Weather Theme" that could be chosen from the wx in my previous install. It's not there. However, ASN says "Simulator running". The wx is not being injected. I'm going to keep going through the guides and hopefully can get it sorted. Also, before doing all of this, I also formatted and installed a fresh set of windows 7 64x. The root of all of this was that my FSX SSD just got too small so I pushed it up to 512Gb from 240Gb and raised my user files drive from a 1Tb mechanical to a 2Tb mechanical. Everything else stayed the same hardware wise. I also want to point out that in OPUS and FSUIPC I have the wx options off. It's not like me to get on here and b!#ch about my simulator. I went from an FSX install that was beautiful and never having OOM's to... this. I've never been so stuck in my life with this product. Worse, I did this to myself...
  12. I bought P3D Professional about two weeks ago. Tried desperately to get it to work right. It screamed on my system at unbelievable FPS rates. Volumetric clouds were great. No tweaking. BUT... No PMDG, ASN P3D Beta kept crashing, and most of my FSX add ons were quirky. Couldn't stand going back to iFly 737 after NGX. My FDS CDU and CP Flight MCP and EFIS wouldn't work properly. Even my IRIS A-10A and F-15E wouldn't work right. Gave up. Knew it wouldn't be easy but this made me want to put a .40 caliber round through my system. Asked for my $200 back. Meanwhile, reinstalled FSX, ORBX, ASN, REX, and it just looks horrible. Posted up at FTX forums that I can't see FTX, it's remaining at default. Can't get the sucker to work. Even ASN will run but the Active Sky Weather theme is unavailable in FSX. I would love some useful advice right now. Nothing is coming together on this. Depressed, need scotch...
  13. Great shots, it's just that P3D comes with 6 or so Connie's. Thought it was P3D...
  14. It looks largish for a 737...
  15. Well, I for one am sorry to see it gone. It was a useful barometer at times.
  16. Hello, Capt. Randazzo and team, As I've said many times in other posts, I love my PMDG products. However, I had to rebuild my sim hardware a week ago and made the move to P3D Pro, latest version. Now, I'm forced to fly my old 737 from another maker. The inability to fly my NGX is driving me mad. I hope your licensing issues are resolved soon and we can have the NG (X?) (P?) in about a year or so. Sooner would be better but I understand how busy you guys are... Best, Kevin
  17. I have the original FSX iFly 737 running in P3D 2.2. 28-30 fps in VC. See my computer specs in my profile. No P3D tweaks, no video OC. Frames locked at 30 fps.
  18. All are very nice, thanks for contributing to this thread! Great work. I have switched to P3D v2.2, so no more NGX for a while... but the massive joy out of 45-50fps with zero tweaking is just awesome.
  19. Hey, Rob, don't let the #*<^#&'s get you down. On another note, I bought P3D Pro today...
  20. Sorry, as Rob said above, I have no hope that the pax and crew are alive at this point regardless of the scenario. I apologize if my comment was crass. If it is in someone else's possession, that is a frightening thought. If it is destroyed, then it probably was over quickly with the exception of a fire on board. Destroyed is much more acceptable than in the hands of an unspecified source.
  21. Hmm. Interesting. A good possible lead if it pans out. Thanks for posting it up here.
