  1. I have been using MS Flight Simulator since the first version in 1982. After FSX I was a user of all P3D versions through version 4.5. When MSFS2020 was released I bought the DVD premium deluxe version from Aerosoft. Have not had any problems other than those everyone has experienced in a few of the updates. Except for the Piper PA28 Arrow, which was only available to purchase from Just Flight, have purchased all of my add-ons, aircraft and airports, through the sim from MS Marketplace, and have not experienced any serious issues. I am not interested in Steam or XBox, so happy to keep things simple by purchasing through the sim.
  2. Just checked AH's web site, doesn't look as if they have released it for MSFS 2020 yet.
  3. I may be mistaken, but I think LFOT was included in P3D and FSX. Perhaps the military side of the airport was not included.
  4. LFOT airport near the French city of Tours does not seem to be in MSFS2020. It is a popular destination served by Ryan Air from London Stansted. It seems surprising that this airport is not in the simulator when every other French city with airline service is in the sim, as well as hundreds of smaller airfields.
  5. The last two updates, including this one, appeared in the program. After I launched MSFS, a screen notified me that there was an update, with a button to select to download and install. Since this was a relatively small update the whole process took just a few minutes. Some previous updates did not appear in the program, requiring the nightmare of figuring out where it was in MS Store. It seems to me that MS/Asobo should settle on one method for releasing updates and I suggest the simplest way is to put the upgrade into the program itself, as it did on the last two. This leads me to want to ask those who tried to get the update from the MS Store and encountered problems - did you try to get the update in the program as well?
  6. Can anyone comment on comparisons between Orbx and Iniscene on EKGA Shoremen. I had the Orbx version of EKGA and having been there in real-life I found it to be quite accurate. In the MSFS Marketplace I see that there are two versions of the airport, one by Orbx and one by Inibuilds/Iniscene (whom I have never heard of). I see also that Gary is starting to introduce some of his airports developed for MSFS 2020, e.g. Bristol. How does his version of Bristol compare with the Pilot Plus? Thanks for any comments.
  7. Excellent! I am sure a lot of simmers in this part of England would be buying these two airfields with very interesting histories.
  8. Have you considered doing Cambridge EGSC? or Duxford Airfield EGSU?
  9. A lot of people have complained about how terrible the latest update has been for them, and hopefully now that we have the hot fix the sim will run as it should. But what I can't understand, and it seems to have happened to me every time there is an update or a hot fix, is why Microsoft have made it so difficult to find and download the hot fix? I thought it was just me, but it seems many have had to struggle to get what should be very simple accomplished. Why do we have to go to the Microsoft Store, sign in, then find the right page to get the hot fix, then find the right three little dots?? Creating, maintaining and upgrading a sophisticated complex simulation like MSFS2020 is no doubt difficult. But itt should not be that difficult to come up with a simple method for the users to download and install a hotfix. For example why not have it in the program itself, so that when you start the game you see a notice that a hotfix is available and have a simple "button" right on the screen to click?
  10. I am curious if the release of MSFS2020 with detailed scenery with some accuracy to the real world has affected sales of the Orbx products. Orbx's business model seemed to operate on the replacement of FSX and P3D default scenery, which are poor, with Orbx Global and Regional products. It seems that MSFS2020 comes "out of the box" with scenery of more detail and accuracy than the Orbx products. Prior to MSFS2020 I had been a P3D user since its launch, and I had nearly all of the Orbx Global and Regions along with several of their airports installed. I think the only Orbx product I have now on MSFS2020 is London.
  11. I had two CTD's, but after the hotfix, everything seems OK. I have flown only a few times since the upgrade, mostly in France and Belgium and, apart from the oversaturated colours of the fields, everything looks great. I read in another avsim forum post of someone who flew in the San Francisco Bay area, starting in NAPA County Airport and flying south across the bay. I first saw the Golden Gate Bridge in the distance from around San Rafael, just the two towers, and the rest of the bridge structure gradually came into view as I got closer, which I believe is the usual experience. When I got to San Francisco (which was detailed and quite beautiful) I looked to the left across the bay and saw the city of Oakland in what seemed to me as the usual detail, where the previous forum post said the city looked like a desert. In general, after the hotfix, I am having no trouble with SU5.
  12. I have noticed when I flying the M20R Ovation and the PA44 Seminole, both Carenado a/c, that when adjusting the throttle, particularly when preparing to land, the engine rprm suddenly and erratically jumps to a very high level. (It only happens with the left engine with the Seminole.) It happens just about every time I touch the throttle and makes it very difficult to put the a/c into the right speed to land. This is very irritating and I am sure it is not representative of the real world. In real life I have only flown the Piper PA 28 warrior (two different training aircraft), and it certainly did not happen with them. Has anyone else noticed this. By the way, it is not an MSFS2020 issue: it doesn't happen with non-Carenado aircraft.
  13. Another reason I am so sold on this plane now (and was for a few years in P3D) is that I flew as a passenger on it several times when I was a kid. It was a fantastic experience. Taking a passenger flight in a propliner was much more compelling experience than in today's jetliners. The engine start up was very impressive (especially to a 7 year old boy). Each of the four giant radial's would turn slowly and then start with a cough and explosion and sometimes exhaust flame. This was repeated four times. Now that we PMDG DC6 flyers know the procedure for starting the engines we understand what was going on. Today's jetliners line up and take off every minute or so. The DC6 would taxi to the runway and stop and run-up the engines, one at a time. Again PMDG has captured this procedure in the checklist. Also, flying in the passenger cabin was much more noisy and with more vibration than in today's jetliners. I like the way PMDG simulates cockpit instrument panel vibration. Gives more presence to the immersion factor. This plane really is a masterpiece. It isn't going to spend much time in my hangar!
  14. I downloaded and re-installed C++ run time, then deleted the DC-6 and re-installed it on my computer. Now the O.C. works fine.
  15. Okay, I have gone to the cockpit and tried again. I see now that CTRL 0 brings up the tablet, and there are several other views ready to access. My problem is that I was using the numbers on the numeric keypad to the right of the keyboard rather than the numbers along the top. This all looks great! Now I can spend my time on learning the challenges of the aircraft. Thanks again for your comments.
  16. Thanks for the helpful comments (and some not so helpful). Actually I am fairly familiar with the cockpit layout and with the challenges of flying the aircraft, having spent a number of hours flying the P3D version of the PMDG DC-6. I have gone through the checklists myself and flown it myself, manually started the engines, done the dry and wet takeoffs, calculated takeoff distances from runway altitude, amvient temperature, etc, and after I felt some familiarity with the aircraft I began to depend upon the AFE. I have studied aircraft technical manuals, some for the aircraft itself (I found an air force C-118 Liftmaster document very helpful.) So it's not that I a do not want to put in the time to learn the difficulties of the aircraft itself. I did this in P3D. And as far as I can tell the aircraft itself has not changed in MSFS2020. The ONLY problem I am having is with the location of the tablet. It would have been helpful if the default position put the tablet in ready viewing position of the pilot. So it seems my difficulty is learning how to set up custom cockpit views, which is more of an MSFS2020 challenge I think than a complicated DC-6 challenge.
  17. I find the location of the MSFS 2020 DC-6 AFE on the tablet very difficult to use. On the P3D version, it was to the forward- left of the cockpit when facing forward. Very easy to see and access without resorting to custom views. On the MSFS version it is below the left cockpit window, requiring you to scroll the cockpit view to the left and down each time you want to access the AFE. Is there a simple way around this?
  18. I can select liveries from the PMDG Ops Centre, but when I load MSFS2020 sim, the selected liveries are not there. Anyone else have this issue?
  19. Thanks for the suggestions, but none of the fixes suggested so far have worked for me. MSFS2020 is the only flight simulator currently installed on my computer.
  20. I have posted this issue on the PMDG Forum also.
  21. Have just purchased the DC-6. I am able to select a flight with the DC-6, so this seems okay. However I want to open the O.C. to select additional liveries. However when I try to open the O.C. I get this message: "The code execution cannot proceed because MSVCP140.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix the problem." Tried to reinstall twice and this did not fix the problem. Has anyone else had this problem?
  22. What is the "community folder"? I have been flying MSFS2020 for a few months now, installed on C Drive (ssd) and have to admit I do not know what this means are where it is. Everything works fine but I cannot find any of the MSFS2020 folders/files. I purchased a DVD version.
  23. I have the P3D DC-6B and it has the AFE. I don't think there was an FSX version of the aircraft.
  24. I am 77 years old and flew in DC-6's a number of times when I was just a lad. My Dad was an American Airlines flight engineer for the DC-6 (and later DC-7, Lockheed Electra, Boeing 707 and DC-10). So I am quite interested in the AFE. I remember that he would bring home thick 3-ring manuals about engine operation and Flight Engineer procedures for the DC-6. I wish I had kept copies of these! From a passenger point of view the aircraft was superb. Full first class cabin with a lounge area where passengers could go to read, drink (and smoke!!). I last flew on a DC-6 in around 1968. I had gone to work for NASA in Houston, and was on a business trip from Houston to Norfolk. The last leg of the flight was a DC-6. I don't remember the airline: Eastern, National, Delta? I must say this, that compared to today's jets the noise and vibration was much worse than I remember from when I was a kid.
