  1. Just wanted to provide an update. I went through every single axis control and was able to get all the main controls (yoke, rudder, throttle, trim) working correctly. I found the DTG control menu to be a bit confusing - I had to spend some time to figure out how to get exactly what I wanted. I also couldn't immediately find the reverse controls options for the rudder brake, but was able to work that out as well. I can now confirm that the Saitek Pro Flight Cessna Yoke, Trim, Rudder Pedals, and Throttle work in DTGFS. I sincerely appreciate your feedback!
  2. Hi all, I wanted to take advantage of some of the 4th of July flightsim sales this weekend to upgrade my scenery in FSX. I know there's a lot of content and other questions out there related to scenery in FSX - so I'll try to keep my questions as specific as possible. Just wanted to get some info before the weekend was up! 1. I currently use ORBX PNW and ORBX SAK with a handful of smaller ORBX airports within those regions. My general (and still limited) understanding of FSX scenery is that these ORBX regions can include upgraded mesh data. If that is true, would FSGenesis still be worth purchasing? I mostly fly general aviation in North America. 2. If I were to stay in the ORBX ecosystem - would FTX Global Base, FTX Global Vector, and FTX Global openLC cover mesh, textures, landclass, vector/area scenery upgrades? Would this be the correct order to install them in? Thank you very much for your time. If there are any general recommendations or feedback, I'd always appreciate that too. Again, many thanks!
  3. Hi all, Just wanted to see if anyone had been able to get their Saitek equipment to work with DTG Flight School? I launched the program this morning for the first time and discovered that my Saitek yoke and rudder pedals were detected. However, I was unable to change some of the joystick commands for things like brakes and elevator trim. Currently when I use my Saitek elevator trim, it rolls the entire aircraft left and right! When I try to change the elevator or brake actions in the Settings menu, it won't recognize me spinning the elevator trim wheel or pushing forward on the rudder pedals. Just wanted to see if other simmers were having this problem or if this was just something I may be doing wrong/overlooking. Any thoughts would be most appreciated! Thank you!
  4. Thanks for the reply rick66. I've been doing some reading on the different features offered within Samsung Magician. I had a few follow up questions (for you or anyone else who may weigh in): 1. Can I run over-provisioning on my drives with my OS and data already installed? 2. I have two Samsung SSD's but it appears I can only use RAPID mode on one. Should I use RAPID mode for my OS SSD or my FSX SSD? For the startup question - do you run as Administrator user or as a Standard user>
  5. Hi all, Just had a quick question - I have two Samsung SSD 840 EVOs. One for my OS and one for my FSX install. The SSD comes with the Samsung Magician software that offers a range of features. I was just wondering if anyone took advantage of these features to optimize their SSDs? I'm looking at the Perfomance Optimization, OS Optimization, Over Provisioning, and RAPID mode features. I wouldn't be totally honest if I said I knew what all those features did. Just wanted to see what other flight-simmers/PC users have done. Also, on a related-note: every time I boot my PC and log in, I get a message basically saying Samsung Magician needs Admin rights in order to run and I should relaunch the application with admin rights. For security, I run as a standard user and have a separate Administrator profile when needed. Is there any way to keep Samsung Magician from running on startup? I've read from numerous places that it is not required to startup with Windows, however, it is not listed in the msconfig.exe Startup tab? Thank you for your help. As always, it is greatly appreciated!
  6. Thank you Dave. Interestingly enough, when I reinstall the driver for the Saitek Throttle Quadrant, it asks me to plug int he controller I want to update - my Throttle Quadrant is plugged into my Saitek Pro Cessna Yoke already. Not sure what to make of that, especially since this all seemed to work correctly before I reinstalled FSX Steam on a new Windows installation.
  7. Hi all, I recently purchased a Saitek Pro Flight Throttle Quadrant. It worked initially but after reinstalling FSX Steam, it only seems to detect the left-hand black lever (for the throttle). The other two levers are not detected while flying. In addition, the Throttle is not listed as a Controller Type in FSX Control settings, though my other Saitek products are. When I launch the Saitek programming software, it does detect all three levers. I would appreciate any assistance or thoughts you could offer. As always, thank you very much for your help!
  8. Thanks for the replies guys. I apologize for my late response, I was away from FSX most of the week. I'll try the above solutions this week and report back! One additional question - I always seem to start flights very zoomed in, even though I have WideAspect set to true in the config files. Anyone else run into this (I may have posted this in an earlier thread many months back, but I don't think I found a solution that worked for me.)
  9. Hi all, I was wondering if anyone might be able to offer up a bit of assistance. I use the Saitek Cessna ProFlight Yoke which works great, except that the "tophat" switch that's used to pan your view seems highly sensitive. When I'm in the cockpit, I feel I spend a lot of time trying to make tiny adjustments and if I apply just a tad too much pressure I'm veering much too far in the direction I'm trying to adjust. I haven't been able to find a setting anywhere in FSX to adjust the sensitivity of this switch. I was wondering if anyone else was running into this problem or knows of a way to reduce the sensitivity? As always, I very much appreciate the assistance.
  10. Hi all, I've been trying to use the FSX Learning Center to work on becoming a better pilot. I know bits and pieces when it comes to flying, but I really want to get a solid foundation. I've been using the Lessons tab to go through all the virtual flight training with Rod Machado. So far it's been pretty helpful but I've run into a small issue with Student Pilot Lesson 3. It seems that when I complete all of the requirements (climb, descend, descend with flaps, climb, and then descend in right and left turns) nothing happens. After I descend in my right and left turns back down to 3,000 feet it seems like the lesson should end, however nothing happens I just fly around on my own. Maybe Rod thought he'd have better odds of surviving by just opening the door and rolling out of the airplane? Just wanted to see if anyone else had experienced this before I concern myself too much with it. As always, thank you very much!
  11. Thank you for all the feedback. I played around with the monitor settings. I think I've got all the settings matched across all three monitors. However, I do still notice a small contrast between my one HDMI monitor (middle) and my two DVI monitors (sides) at night. With everything else though, I can not determine any other differences.
  12. Thank you very much PieEater. I appreciate everyone's efforts to help answer my question and reassure my worries!
  13. Here are my temps according to RealTemp after a 15-20 minute flight in FSX. Maximum temps: 66C 63C 63C 64C
  14. I understand your point PieEater. I have stressed tested the computer when I initially overclocked and can re-test this week to see what my temps are full-load are. I will also use RealTemp this week to monitor my temps while playing FSX. When I was re-seating my CPU the other week I did notice that on the radiator for my H100i (which is screwed into the top of my case as an exhaust) - one of the fans was very partially covered by the back of the case and not exposed to the vents at the top. Like I said earlier, at this point I just want to know that my temps are within safe ranges so I don't have to worry about it. I think the next time I build a rig I may try a place that would build and OC it for you (possibly something like Origin). While I did enjoy the experience, I feel now that I spend more time worrying about my handywork building and OCing the machine, than I do actually playing flightsim. Ok, I'll get out of the wambulance now. ^_^ Thanks again for all your help!
  15. Hi all, I have 3 Asus monitors for my Flight Sim setup - the middle monitor is HDMI and the two side monitors are DVI. During dusk/night flights, I notice that the middle monitor (HDMI) seems to have less contrast than the other two monitors using DVI. Is this just because of the cable types I'm using, or is there something in the monitor settings I can change to get them to all show evenly? As always, your help and feedback is greatly appreciated!
  16. Thanks everyone. I appreciate the feedback. I think I have CPUID HWMonitor and CPUZ so I'll have those running in the background when I test more this weekend. I made one change to my OC from a suggestion I got in an older thread I started a year ago and changed my CPU vCore voltage to override mode (instead of adaptive mode) at 1.150. Now when i ran FSX my temps hit a high of 59C in a quick flight. I just want to confirm leaving my CPU in vCore override mode @ 1.150 is safe? I truly appreciate you guys helping me to get a baseline of what safe temps would be for day-to-day use of the i7 4770k. As long as my temps are considered safe I'm happy where I'm at and just want to get to flying! :p0502:
  17. Quick update - I did a second flight in FSX and the temps got up to a max of 71C. I'm wondering if this may be because the thermal paste was only put in 20 mins prior and I hadn't run any stress tests yet? Either way, as long as I'm still within safe temp ranges, I'm not going to worry about it too much. I know the temps could and should be lower, but if someone could just give me an idea of what temps I should start to worry about the life of my CPU and components, I would appreciate that. I think I've spent more time worrying and tinkering with the PC than actually getting usefulness out of it. But I do sincerely appreciate everyone's help here.
  18. Thank you everyone for your feedback, it is appreciated. So I opened my computer tonight and did the following: -Added some rubber shims to between the motherboard and backplate of the h100i -Removed and reapplied thermal paste -Reaseated the heat sink and tightened fairly tight with a screwdriver I did a very quick flight (like 2 minutes) in FSX and my max temp was 63C - I know that's not a huge drop, but as long as those kind of temps (i.e. anything under 70C?) will not shorten the life of my CPU or damage any components, I'm going to be happy with it. I'm not looking for an OC past 4.2 GHz and am happy just to fly along in my sim. I truly do appreciate the support and (hopefully) being able to get my temps down a few degrees.
  19. Thanks Richard! I very much appreciate it! Thanks PieEater, I'll try RealTemp tonight. Back when I was setting up my OC (about a year ago), I was using different stress tests, such as Prime95 and AIDA64. From what I remember, they were giving me different temperature results, which was driving me in circles; I'm not sure if they are testing differently? I went back through my notes and I believe with Prime95 I was getting a high of 74C or 75C. I can't find my notes on my tests with AIDA64, but I believe AIDA64 was a bit lower than that. I may run another AIDA64 test this weekend, but if I stay under 85C, can I put my mind at ease about the health of my CPU?
  20. Sorry about that, I've included the full list below. My Corsair H100i is actually configured as my out-take out of the top of my case. All of the fans on my case (Azza Hurrican) are configured as intakes. Cooling - Corsair H100i Processor - Intel Core i7-4770K Processor Cores - 4 Processor Speed - 3.5 GHz RAM - G.Skill Trident X Series 8GB DDR3-2400 Memory Video Board Manufacturer - EVGA Video Board Model - GeForce GTX 780 Video Memory - 3 GB Mother Board - ASRock Z87 Extreme6 ATX LGA1150 Hard Drives - Samsung 840 EVO SSD(2) / Seagate Barracuda HDD(2) Monitor - 27", 1920x1080, Asus VE278Q (x3) Operating System - Windows 7 Ultimate
  21. Hi all, Just had a very quick question regarding temperatures for the i7 4770k CPU. I posted a thread regarding this issue almost a year ago and got some great feedback, but wanted to revisit this particular issue as I'm looking at making the jump to FSX-SE anyway. Currently, I have my CPU overclocked to 4.2 GHz. When I run FSX using an ORBX scenery and a Carenado plane, my max temp (according to HWMonitor64) reaches 68C. However, I can't seem to tell if it just spikes at 68C or if that is sustained throughout my flights. Just to experiment, I loaded up my default CPU profile and brought all the OC numbers back to stock. When I recreated the flight as closely as I could, my max temps were 55C (again, not sure if this was sustained throughout the flight or just the peak temp my CPU spiked at). So I was basically wondering if these temperatures were considered normal and within a safe range, based on everyone else's experience with FSX and overclocking? My next flight, I'd like to try and load some other add-ons like REX and REX Latitude to see if that adds a significant difference to the temps, but I'd really appreciate anyone's thoughts or feedback on my current results. As always, I truly appreciate your thoughts and feedback. Thank you!
  22. I have Steam already (haven't used it much though). Can I install FSX in it's own directory outside of where my other Steam games are installed? I currently have FSX and it's add-ons installed on their own dedicated SSD and would like to keep this configuration if possible.
