Video Card Upgrade - Strix GTX 980 TI
W2XP and GBPro are definitely worth your time. I'm running a 512 MB card on a 2009 iMac and it works fine on my machine. Adds a completely new dimension to sim realism. I think you'll love flying low and slow over the British countryside. Fly from EGFF to EGGP with GBPro and tell me what you think. And no, you don't have to remove the HDMesh V3 scenery.

Couldn't resist any longer
I have both the CL30 and CRJ200 and they are both exceptional aircraft add-ons. If I had to pick one I guess it would be the CRJ simply for the FMS. But I do find myself flying the CL30 more often as I like the flexibility of corporate jets vs regional airliners. Looking forward to DDenn's release of the Global 6000.

XFMC Help
Well, I dusted off my CL30 and did a flight from KBOS to KIAD. Did a couple of DCT-TOs and they appeared to work correctly, although the red line did show a course from the previous point to the DCT-TO waypoint. That definitely looks strange and I wish it was more like the real world. Not sure why it's like this. As freeware, I think XFMC is a great add-on for XP, but it surely is not perfect. I use it regularly on several aircraft in my hangar from helicopters to GA to heavy iron and it works well in all of them.

Deciding to move from FSX?
I guess maybe it is the lack of autogen scenery draws that allows me to run in extreme resolution with photo scenery. The weird thing is that I'm also able to run trees, objects, and roads on "extreme" settings with only 512 MB of VRAM and still get 40-50 fps flying 1000' over the UK. It's simply awesome, and with Tony's GB Pro world2xplane it is amazing. FSX is not even in the same ballpark.

XFMC Help
Once I land from my current flight I'll do some testing in the CL30 with XFMC. Will report back with findings. Don't think you can change the complete flight plan once airborne. You can change the routing, but not the departure/destination.

XFMC Help
No…When you engage the autopilot through the AP button on the XFMC CDU, this engages the HDG mode on the MCP. Disregard this and don't try to change it to NAV mode. And yes you should have FMS1 as the source.

XFMC Help
This is a strange behavior of XFMC. You must have AP engaged on the XFMC CDU and at the same time have HDG selected on the CL30 MCP. When you select AP on the XFMC CDU it should push you to the HDG mode on the MCP. The problem is if just select NAV and engage the AP on the MCP, the autopilot will follow the flight plan as entered in XFMC and you're led down the path of thinking you did everything correct. But, when you try to do a DCT-To, it doesn't work as expected. So just make sure AP is selected on the XFMC CDU and you should have this solved.

Deciding to move from FSX?
Hello David, The glorious photo scenery can be found at zone photo.x-plane.fr It is ZL16 (ZoomLevel 16) and is really just as good as ZL17 and the files are around 1.5GB as opposed to 5GB; i.e. much quicker download time. Not to mention the amount of HD space that gets eaten up if you download a large swarth of landmass. My custom scenery folder has grown to over 450GB mostly due to European photo scenery. But it's worth it. An added benefit of photo scenery is the ability to run in "extreme" resolution for a much clearer view of the terrain below. I'm not sure why this works, but if you load up the sim in say "normal" or "high" resolution for good frame rates, you can then simply change the screen resolution to "extreme" and the photo scenery comes in to clear focus with absolutely no hit to fps. It really makes flying low much more realistic as you're flying over the actual terrain.

World 2 Xplane making no difference?
Much easier to just download the w2xpl_Europe file and place that in the custom scenery folder. All the work has already been done. The w2xpl_Europe file covers all of Europe and really makes a difference in realism.

Cloud comparison levels + fps
I too have found this behavior in XP. Not scientific in any way, but it seems to be related to other applications taking up RAM space. I'm running on an 8GB RAM iMac and if I have multiple apps open (safari, mail, calendar, etc) before I start XP, this will limit the RAM available to XP and seems to have a significant impact on XP from day to day. Maybe I'll do an experiment today to bring this hypothesis more into the scientific realm.

HD Mesh v2 question
My understanding is that the current simheaven photosceneries all have the HD Mesh V2 as their underlying mesh. Therefore, if you are only going to fly in the photo scenery area, there is no need to download the HD Mesh V2 for that area. However, if you do, it is not going to affect the scenery. Just take up disk space. I can confirm this to be true as I have all of the HD Mesh V2 installed in my Custom Scenery folder and I have about 30 or so photo scenery tiles in addition to the OSM and W2XP beta files. They all seem to play nice together and the scenery is the best I've seen in 10 years of XP. Good luck.

What type of flying do you do in X-Plane?
I've flown all over the world in my career as real world pilot. Now that I'm retired, I enjoy using XP to recreate some of the flights I flew over my career. I enjoy the Boeing payware, particularly the T7 and 727, which closely resembles the cockpit I flew in the old 707. With the latest scenery developments, I also enjoy VFR flying throughout Europe with simheavens photo scenery tiles. Love the fact that photo scenery is so easy on the frame rates given my 512 VRAM card. That's opened up a whole new world to explore and flying the Mediterranean coast is awesome. My system can't quite handle the newer W2XP and OSM data files, but when my 2009 i7 iMac dies, I'll be replacing it with a high powered XP PC and will be able to the latest in scenery development. Overall, I'd say I'm 50/50 with small GA (Carenado BE58/Be33) vs large commercial airlines (CRJ/T7/727) with a small does of military jet flying. Enjoy them all and fly most every day.
