  1. No need for commenting folks. I've already gone with sticking to option 1. I will be overclocking the laptop and installing extra fans if you were wondering
  2. Hey everyone. Sorry to bore you with my boring "which is better" questions, but I need a second opinion in this case. 1.An older Intel i3 (about 7 years old) at 2.4GHz (actually runs fsx quite well) 2.A 6th gen Intel i5 at 2.3GHZ. Both computers are/will be running intel integrated graphics. 1. Has 4GB of ram, but it will be used ONLY for fsx, pmdg 737, and ASN. No other programs/add-ons will be run. 2. Has 8GB of ram, but will be running fsx, PFPX, PMDG737, ASN, and it will have all my other downloaded programs on it. So, which do you think will run (ms)fsx better? 1 or 2? Thanks for taking the time to read through my boring schpiel
  3. One other option is FSPassengers. It has the chatter in the background.
  4. Hey fellow flight simmers, I'm wondering if it is time for me to upgrade from my crappy old laptop to a newer one, or even possibly a PC. Money is pretty tight, so it would have to be cheaper. Currently, I run fsx, flying with the PMDG 737-800, and the Majestic Dash-8. My current laptops stats: laptop is About 7 or 8 years old Toshiba 4 GB RAM Intel i3 @ 2.4GHZ 500GB SSD Windows 7 PMDG 737 framerates When around the airport, I get about 5FPS. When airborne, I get about 10-15FPS (In the virtual cockpit) Majestic Dash-8 When around the airport, 10-15FPS. When airborne, 25-35FPS. (In the virtual cockpit) The problem is, I fly the 737 way more often, and its frame rates are getting way too sluggish for me. I'm very impressed with the Dash 8 though. I would also like more addons, such as ASN and some airport scenery addons, but my computer has made it obvious I just can't do that. My graphics settings are at a bare minimum, so much the simulator looks horrible. I don't have any traffic AI on, but I will occasionally fly on Vatsim. So even though the answer seems obvious, should I get a new computer or not? If no, are there any tweaks that could possibly improve my performance. Hopefully someone can help me out!! Thanks, Ethan
  5. In real life, I fly to MMUN every year for vacation, and they had one runway back in 2006. Around 2010, they finished construction on a parallel runway. Now in the sim when I go to fly there, the FMC gives me the option for runway's 12L and 12R, even though when you look at the airport in FSX, there is only runway 12. I'm guessing most add on scenery's would be up to date, so I'd say that's the best and easiest option.
  6. Ok, thanks for the help everyone!
  7. Hey everyone. To start, I really enjoy flying the 737. It is a beautiful aircraft, and I have been a proud owner of it for about 2 years now. However, I will usually only have an hour and a half every day for flying, which leaves me to an 1:10 minute flight at the most. I would like to try flying longer routes, like into the tropics. One problem I know there would be is the 737's "Engine Initialization", whenever you re-enter a flight. I am wondering if this would have any effect on the autopilot and my FMC. If not, I can simply hold a steady pitch until it is done initializing, and then let the autopilot take back over. So basically what I am asking is, if you save your flight in the 737, when you load the flight, will the "20 second engine initialization" have any effect on my route and the autopilot? Thanks, Ethan Dau
  8. Hi everyone, I noticed a while ago that when I go to turn the yaw damper on in the 737 (during a cold and dark start) sometimes it will bounce back to the off position. I do my checklist in the same order every time, and some days it works, some days it doesn't. I noticed this a long time ago, and I have always just worked around it. I was wondering if I need to turn a certain system on before turning on the yaw damper, like hydraulics maybe? Thanks, Ethan
  9. Hi, That is very weird that it would do that, I've never had that happen to me. When you are changing views, are you using a keyboard command to change to spot, or are you right clicking, then selecting the views? One other question, does it happen when you go into a different exterior view (Locked Spot, FlyBy, Tower, Aircraft etc.) If not then I'm not sure what else could be causing that... That's exactly what I was getting at...
  10. To look around, either use the hat on a joy stick, or hold space and move the cursor around. I personally don't have anything like EZDok, too complicated for me!
  11. I re-installed FSX yesterday, I also read you shouldn't install it into (Program Files x86), but ever since I got FSX about four years ago, nothing ever went wrong. Just make sure to start FSX as admin and you should be on your way!
  12. I have the PMDG 737, but not the Q400. I found the 737 very easy to fly. I have had it for about 2 years now....The hardest part is probably the learning how to use the FMC/CDU, but after a few flights you get used to it. I heard the Q400's FMC is really hard to use, mind you I have no personal experience...... I'm guessing a Q400 pilot would find the 737 FMC Hard to master as well! 2 different concepts I guess. Turn on the autopilot and the autothrottle on the 737, and it will practically fly itself all the way onto the ground. So if you like to hand-fly aircraft, like Haskell said, I would say the Q400 is probably a better choice. Hopefully I could help!!
  13. Hi all. I am wondering if anyone knows of a way to tweak the engine sounds of the PMDG 737. In particular, in real life 737's, at idle when throttling down, I notice the rumble of the engine, and the full power grind when at full power. These both sound different than they do in the simulator, and I was wondering if I could try to tweak them. I have Audacity on my laptop, and I'm wondering if you can use that (and if so, how?) to modify the sounds. Or even if someone knows of a sound pack that has what I'm looking for. Hopefully someone can help me out! Thanks, Ethan
  14. Hi, What kinds of planes did you see this happening on? Were they some of the FSX default aircraft, or downloadable planes? I know I once had a freeware 737 that had raindrops (they were static) on the windshield when it rained. Other than that, I'm not really sure how to get those kinds of effects either. hope I could somewhat help.... -Ethan
  15. Hi Mark. I haven't purchased ASN yet, but I used the seven day trial, and it worked mostly fine for me. However, I do fly in Canada, not the UK. The only problem I really encountered was when it was an extremely overcast day, and the clouds came up scattered instead. Other than that, it's worked like a charm for me the whole period of the trial. Are you having any errors upon starting FSX? If so, it could be a problem to your FSX 3 main directories. I know once my fsx directory was set to the addon scenery folder, and that screwed up a whole lot for me. Another thing that may cause the problem is if ASConnect is not able to run correctly. (Could be from a Security issue like a firewall) Thanks, Ethan
