  1. Sorry, I'm not interested in anything more that "will be sorted out soon." Far too many addons [and sims] are sold with this assurance. Far fewer deliver on it. Finish your product first...then sell it. My standard has become not to consider any product unless there are several objective reviews that report it is finished and working well. There is too much money and too much time wasted otherwise
  2. It's not so exciting to wait for updates for every addon purchased then install and test them every few weeks to find out which no longer work or to discover what is broken in the sim itself this time. It comes from referring to the necessary stability as "stagnation" and thinking that anything new must be better [or more "exciting" because MS/Asobo says it is. I really believe that acceptance of anything new, regardless of quality, simply because it is new, together with the paltry excuses offered on behalf of these developers is slowing the pace of development of a fully usable sim.
  3. It seems to me that four things have been repeatedly cycling since 2019 when ms started the hype campaign. 1. Hype: Jorg makes pronouncements about how groundbreaking this sim, or the next update to it, is going to be, thereby setting expectations at a certain level. 2. The Release: Then follows the realization of the community that many things are now broken and even more things remain broken. 3. The Defense: Some in the community point out that..."this is a ten year project" ..or...It is unrealistic to expect basic features to work "only sixteen months after release" [which, by the way, is actually two and a half years of development.] . Therefore, they say we must lower our expectations. 4. MS realizes, once again, that half the community will always be satisfied with anything they release regardless of how carelessly it has been thrown together so its time for Jorg to do his thing again. I am optimistic since, with each new release, more and more of the community is beginning to see the obvious...that something that lacks the basic features of a flight simulator...is not a flight simulator.
  4. I agree with you completely, each sim means something different to each of us. My biggest disappointment at the moment is that MSFS isn't developing what they're best at which, for me, is exploration and some competitive missions and exercises. They seem to me to be dissipating energy in far too many directions at once...with predictable results. To return to your point: each sim brings something different to the table, for me it's: xp-11 for aerobatics and aerodynamic analysis P3D for IFR training (old school--steam) DCS for World War II reenactments and excellent flight models, and one day I hope MSFS for geography and VFR
  5. I guess if you believe nothing that is older can possibly be better or that stability equals stagnation then we really do have a different perspective. When everything new and shiny seems better because it is new and shiny, and regardless of solidity and reliability it says something about the depth of one's analysis. Quality can transcend superficial appearances and the surface of things can obscure what lies beneath.
  6. The problem with this is that you can't fly half a sim because it lacks stability. Rather than deal with the stability problems, MS/A keeps trying to add one "shiny new object" after another..viz Reno Air Races. The beautiful scenery is of no use if you can't fly through it reliably...and this sim has never been reliable. All the other major sims are much better at one thing...flying. Something like FS9, P3D or XP11 are about flying--not troubleshooting. It depends on how you want to spend your time.
  7. If these are your expectations then you're lucky because they will always be met by MS/A. It is simply not the case that most planes in other sims are broken after a "patch." No fully functioning autopilot No TrackIR No access to the toolbar in VR No stability or reliability that you will be able to start or complete a flight. Forced updates that disable paid addons But..yeah...Singapore looks beautiful.
  8. I don't expect there to be a need for a reaction. It's almost like we take it for granted that these updates are going to destroy as much as they do. If MS/Asobo doesn't see the need for an entirely different approach by now, I wonder if they ever will. I don't think the answer is to "Keep lowering your expectations...and hope for the best" ... especially when it is MS/A who are creating these expectations in the first place.
  9. I really don't think the solution to this "sim" is to buy it again. Some of the most basic things have never worked. It's not a sim ...it's a project...an attempt. IMHO there are certain very basic things that have to work in order for something to be called a flight simulator and far too many of them are lacking in MSFS. The most important is, perhaps...stability. The promise or the expectation that they will someday be fixed is not enough when you consider the amount of money and more importantly the amount of time this thing has already cost without our being able to start or complete a flight unless we spend hours of troubleshooting. We are simply not getting what we paid for.
  10. Well, as just one example, the F-14 by DC Designs worked perfectly before the "update". Now it has no MFD and no HUD...a bit difficult to fly without those. Other examples would be any plane you want to fly with TrackIR.
  11. Many of the planes that have been cited as working well are the result of the talent and hard work of the community...not Ms/Asobo in providing the necessary modifications for free. Can you imagine what this sim would look like without those mods? I respectfully disagree with those who try to make the case that MSFS is no different from other sims during development. I believe MSFS is unique in the amount of time and frustration it has required of users and the number and significance of the inoperative and broken features that disappear and reappear with stunning frequency. The difference is that the other titles were and continue to be far more stable than MSFS at all stages of development. My point is that without a modicum of stability there is little enjoyment. It's like trying to live in a beautiful house that is about 60% finished. I think it is important to continuously point out that this is not acceptable. There is no hope for stability in the future unless we expect it.
  12. I wonder how many will be willing to stay on this merry-go-round for five years. Can you imagine the number of hours of your life that will be spent in the usual "search, tweak and wait" game. There is simply no payoff for the effort when you plan to spend an hour or two flying and then encounter the "issue of the day" and spend 3 or 4 hours searching for a solution only to find there isn't one.
  13. That's true but not every six to eight weeks.
  14. Not shouting (that would be all caps) just using standard English to emphasize words. Perhaps we need to keep posting until they gain some respect for the amount of time these "updates" are costing us.
  15. It would seem we need to wait for Ms/Asobo to "update the update" ...then wait for the developers to update their work before we can fly many of the addons we have paid for. This will take weeks if not months and then the process begins again. This is the seventh time. How much longer will this nonsense continue? The money is nothing compared too the amount of time they are demanding of us to search for solutions ... find there are none and then continue the wait.
  16. Welcome to the forum. You will find a wealth of useful information here.
  17. So much for a $92.00 addon. Disaster and cash grab from start to finish.
  18. You're not a Luddite, brother. You might just be someone who enjoys stability, reliability and flexibility rather than searching the forums for the answer to the MSFS issue of the moment. We never seem to run out of them. Whenever I am looking for any one of those three characteristics, or all of them, I also go to P3D because they're not to be found in MSFS.
  19. All avionics is off and not usable even in steam gauge planes (e.g. Waco, ah SPITFIRE, ah Electra). Clicking switch moves the switch but has no other effect in the sim. Is this a known issue? Is there a fix? I have, of course, rebooted the sim and the computer several times, nothing has been added or changed since yesterday when everything worked fine. It seems that every time I boot up MSFS, it is a tossup (50/50) as to whether I will be enjoying a flight or discovering "today's issue"--in other words, whether i will be using the sim or spending at least a few hours of my flight time on the forums trying to find a solution to something basic (like avionics) that really should be stable after fourteen months. If there is one essential characteristic of any software, to my mind it should be stability--without which there is very little enjoyment and a great deal of stress.
  20. I purchased MSFS from the MS store 13 months ago. For the first time I am unable to load the sim. Instead I get the "Please insert the Microsoft Flight Simulator game disk" screen. In addition I am unable to sign in to either the Microsoft Store or the Xbox app. There have been no changes to either the sim or the computer since it last worked two days ago. I have reviewed the threads here on Avsim and on the official site and tried all those solutions to no avail. Any further suggestions would be appreciated.
  21. ...or to give up and buy an Xbox console from MS...not kidding. Why else would they be ignoring this and so many other constantly recurring problems?
  22. What's going on is ....you are trying to just load the sim and fly a plane..something MSFS was never designed to do.😄
  23. Hundreds of software designers manage to streamline their update process. It seems that Asobo hasn't yet grasped how they do it. There will always be apologists for shoddy workmanship but many of us are growing very tired of these oversights and miscoding.
  24. The download instructions on the official website say no such thing. Read them.
  25. I agree entirely. They also could have streamlined the update process itself. Even their own instructions, in the latest update, on how to download this version are inaccurate and misleading. But I think the point is to keep users floundering around among the Microsoft ads for as long as possible. Could it be that they are more interested in promoting their other products than the convenience of their customers? What other rational explanation can there be?.
