  1. Arrrrh, yes... Forgot about the extraction of the shockwave installer, I actually have the shockwave files in P3D via the xml addon method. Cannot remember how I got the files extracted from the installer unfortunately. I'll have a look on the weekend Cheers R
  2. Hey yes for sure, I work for a software R&D company where we develop image processing, automation and web interface software and know the value of getting the max performance out of a defined piece of hardware. Truth be told though the hardware tends to be VM's running in data centres or some tenanted arrangement in AWS or Azure and can have resources thrown at it left right and centre - but the costs!!! every resource and minute of use costs money... But back to P3D, if I saw a definable difference between the use of either value I'd be the first to say it, but for myself at least it's no drama with not enabling the UIHardwareAcceleration option. For Josephpilot I recommend setting the value back to True (or commenting out since the default is true) and renaming the Reshade dll to disable it (typically named dxgi.dll by default) e.g. dxgi.dll.off or some such. Then trial the reported airport issue and use a process of elimination to confirm the issue is either resolved or still exists. Cheers R
  3. Hey yes of course, I've a 4k TV which was really cheap to buy. That said 4k monitors and the GFX cards to drive them are really expensive, I could probably buy ~6 x 65 inch 4k Korean brand TV's for the price of your GFX card and 4k monitors. Not knocking, just some of us don't have such cash to splash and have to make use with workarounds like DSR. Cheers R
  4. Yeah I noticed the same, and the fix was... To use shockwave lights. But you have to put them in manually, the shockwave lights manual describes how (it is fiddly though). I've been replacing lights left right and centre in aircraft that need them since I found out how. aircraft.cfg [LIGHTS] //Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing, 6=Taxi, 7=Recognition, 9=Logo // ============================================= // !!===== LIGHTS NOW PART OF MDL FILE =======!! // ============================================= // TBM 06/08/2020 Added shockwave lights as the default are just dots that do not dynamicaly illuminate. // Light type, -back +forward, -left +right. -down +up light.0 = 5, -2.2, -3.6, -1.1, fx_shockwave_landing_light_small_xenon // Shockwave light light.1 = 5, -2.2, 3.6, -1.1, fx_shockwave_landing_light_small_xenon // Shockwave light Cheers R
  5. Plus lets not forget P3D powers military sims where a single sale would probably be in the millions of $$$. Like the sim in this link, see the last pic. https://aviationphotodigest.com/raaf-the-next-generation/ Cheers R
  6. True to an extent. It is possible to use NVidia's DSR and achieve semi 4K resolution on a 1080P monitor. And that is where a 3000 series GPU will thrive. Even though I have a 1080P monitor (3 of) and a 1070Ti I can atm achive 4K in selected optimal flying conditions @ a vsync'd 30 hz. Perfectly flyable, very smooth and looks great, menus are a bit small though. Usually I use a DSR screen mode of 1.78x native mode which my 1070Ti handles pretty well in almost all conditions although sometimes I have to drop SSAA back to 2x (from 4x). Cheers R
  7. Reshade does support DX12 And disabling hardware acceleration in the UI is hardly crippling P3D, do you spend all your time in the UI? or spend time flying... I certainly have no issues with the use of UIHardwareAcceleration=False and Reshade, in fact Reshade provides lots of graphical options for tuning the look and feel of P3D on the fly. The reason the UIHardwareAcceleration= option is there is precisly because LM recognised the use of Reshade and that their enablement of hardware acceleration in the UI prevented successful running of Reshade and similar applications unless Hardware Acceleration was globally disabled in Windows (globally disabling certainly does have an affect outside of P3D). And as it turns out my testing shows Orbx's Darrington Mun is a problem with or without Reshade and UIHardwareAcceleration= set to True or False, although not something Orbx looks like they will ever investigate further given it's a many years long standing issue. So for me UIHardwareAcceleration= option and Reshade is Winner Winner Chicken Dinner :-) Cheers R Reshade in action.
  8. I use ReShade too, however I don't have the described issue apart for one airport being Orbx's Darington Mun, that said apparently Orbx's Darington Mun has always had this issue going back before there was even a UIHardwareAcceleration option. Still I'll give it a check with ReShade disabled and UIHardwareAcceleration set to true and repost. Personally and as the config param is a UI function, I don't see how UIHardwareAcceleration=False can be the issue. Cheers
  9. And how was the hardware acceleration disabled? E.g. Globally via a registry key? Or just for the P3D UI via Prepar3D.cfg [USERINTERFACE] UIHardwareAcceleration=False
  10. Hey thanks for your inputs. Very informative. Cheers R
  11. Ta folks, thanks for the comments. I figured after the effort of adding the sounds and how much better it felt flying the plane with those sounds, sharing was the way to go. And I also then found out about the C208_FDE_OP patch and have installed it. And it makes a big difference, the cab file included with the patch doesn't include the Drag.xml gauge which is a really simple gauge for spoilers at a particular throttle setting. The gauge is still referenced in the Panel.cfg though and thusly generates errors, best to comment it out as less errors means less exception processing occurring. I'm also hoping BR4593 will also share their Panel mods as it looks pretty cool (and I don't really want to have to re-invent the wheel so to speak).
  12. Hi Br4593, Very interested in what you've put together. Where's it at ? Cheers R
  13. Hey Folks, During the early months of Covid-19 I purchased the Carenado C208B HD Grand Caravan (with Steam Gauges) only to find it did not include immersive cockpit sounds which was a little disappointing. As such I've put together an immersive cockpit sounds package for the Carenado C208B HD Grand Caravan (Steam Gauge release). The package is based on Daniel Gauthier's "Cockpit Sounds V2" customised for x64 and the Carenado C208B HD. I've built it around P3D x64, meaning P3D 4 and above, but it should work Ok for FSX if the sound gauge is replaced with an x86 version (check Doug Dawson's webpage). See the readme file in the archive for details, and you'll find it located in the AVSIM library. https://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=220856 I also used the demo Syncro-Soft turbine sounds, also in the AVISIM library. https://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=169522 Here is what it sounds like. Carenado C208B HD Grand Caravan with Immersive Sounds Added Cheers R
  14. Never ??? The lights are referenced in the aircraft.cfg (at least they are in the C208B HD Steam Gauge release, which is the release I have). And it is just a matter of assigning an alternative light. For example, today I have used my A2A Shockwave lights. // TBM 14/02/2021 Added shockwave lights as the default are not very bright (although the Landing and Taxi do dynamically illuminate). // Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing, 6=Taxi, 7=Recognition, 9=Logo, 10=Interior (or custom?) // Light type, -back +forward, -left +right, -down +up [Lights] light.0 = 3, -17.48, -26.30, 3.92, fx_shockwave_navred.fx //fx_navredcardose light.1 = 3, -17.75, 26.30, 3.92, fx_shockwave_navgre.fx //fx_navgrecardose light.2 = 3, -43.87, 0.12, 1.74, fx_shockwave_navwhi.fx //fx_navwhicardose light.3 = 2, -17.70, -26.30, 3.92, fx_strobecardose light.4 = 2, -17.97, 26.30, 3.92, fx_strobecardose light.5 = 1, -41.75, 0.00, 10.45, fx_beaconcardose light.6 = 9, -11.61, 0.00, 0.98, fx_vclightcardose light.7 = 10, -12.61, 0.00, 2.10, fx_vclightcardose2 //fx_vclightcardose1 light.8 = 10, -15.61, 0.00, 2.10, fx_vclightcardose2 //fx_vclightcardose1 light.9 = 10, -20.61, 0.00, 2.10, fx_vclightcardose2 //fx_vclightcardose1 light.10 = 10, -25.91, 0.00, 2.10, fx_vclightcardose2 //fx_vclightcardose1 light.11 = 10, -11.81, 0.00, 0.98, fx_vclightcardose2 //fx_vclightcardose1 light.12 = 5, -15.6, -17.05, 3.6, fx_shockwave_landing_light_small_xenon // Shockwave light - Landing lights light.13 = 5, -15.6, 17.05, 3.6, fx_shockwave_landing_light_small_xenon // Shockwave light - Landing lights light.14 = 6, -15.6, -17.45, 3.6, fx_shockwave_landing_light_small_xenon // Shockwave light - Taxi lights light.15 = 6, -15.6, 17.45, 3.6, fx_shockwave_landing_light_small_xenon // Shockwave light - Taxi lights And this is what they look like... plus you don't really need Shockwave, any suitable lights from another aircraft would work, I just happen to like the Shockwave 3D effect. Cheers R
  15. What about the A2A Simulations 3D lights Redux? Although the package is FSX I use it in P3D v4.5 just fine. And I actually heard about the package from a P3D v5 flyer who was using it. https://a2asimulations.com/product/3d-lights-redux-fsx/ You would of course be manually placing lights but it's not hard to do. Cheers
  16. I edited the traffic XML to reduce the speed those cars and Truck traverse the roads / highways / motorways. It's an acceptable workaround provided you don't get too close. Also helps if you can run at 60 fps vsync'd. Cheers
  17. The latest 4.5 for me. I do have 5 as well, however it's just not there yet for me and I'm quite willing to wait to see what LM come out with for the next updates. I was actually thinking about P3D vs. MSFS and although compatibility is really good for P3D in that I've been able to migrate most of the aircraft and addins I like from FSX days (and thus had many years of use), its been a double edged sword with most aircraft / airports never being updated past the bare minimum to get them functional / installed into later P3D releases, thus they're still essentially an FSX addin that just happens to work in P3D, not in all cases of course but for many - yeah that's the way it is. 😞 For the most part I don't mind P3D, with the right tuning and hardware P3D is very good, but I cannot help but think its been the sim to use because there's been not much in the way of compelling competition until now. The future will be quite interesting. Cheers
  18. A2A's Piper Cherokee 180... Don't know why I took so long to buy this little gem. Super easy to fly, this thing just floats down onto the runway and handles completely differently to A2A's C172 / C182 and their other GAs. Yet absolutely includes all the fidelity expected of A2A's planes, this is going to be my new short jaunt fun favs. Have taken of from Dunedin New Zealand and heading north. Cheers
  19. Parked @ 11S Sekiu The Potash Dams @ Moab USA, I watched an interesting documentary on Potash, how it originated, its name as well, how they used to mine it and how its mined nowadays. Also some interesting political outcomes of supply blockage. Cheers
  20. Cannot help with what they look like in MSFS, sorry. Don't have MSFS. Cheers R
  21. Opps... Sorry not a native... In Australia flat is the term I'd describe as, and snow is a winter event only and often a rarity anyway. And it's summer now with a couple of days of up to 41 degree C of expected temp for my area for Sunday and Monday. Nice pic, imagine in the next ~20 odd years sims have such detailed scenery (and a Matrix enviroment ??). 20 years ago I was at a computer event there the speaker was talking about drive size support for file systems where 2TB was described as an amount of storage only NASA would likely afford. Cheers R
  22. Yeah MSFS is the shiny new toy in town, that said I prefer stability and am willing to wait given P3D is working very well for myself. Did the same for FSX -> FSX-SE and only moved to P3D once my fav planes and toolkits etc. were available as x64. I did jump on the Flight Sim World bandwangon early and ended being burnt, pity about FSW, in every way it was a big jump up from FSX (although no streaming scenery). Just goes to show a company needs really deep pockets to develop a flight sim, I hope the Microsoft bean counters are up for the spend... Plus I'm intending to build a new workstation however there is no hardware to buy 😞 Alas cannot get the latest Ryzen's, and there are no NVidia 3080 series or the new AMD cards unless you're rich and silly enough to pay crazy prices and even then the 3080 only has 10 GB ram, the older third gen back 1080Ti had 11 GB I did see some 3090 locally available but at around the $3000.00 AU mark they're a bit out of my $$ range. By the time new hardware is readliy available who knows where the sim platforms will be given all three are not static. Cheers R
  23. I gotta admit the USA (North American continent actually) has a huge number of interesting areas to fly. Some shots of flying in Oregon USA, I think I was heading to Mt Hood (or coming from - one of the two).
