  1. Maybe related to Full Screen optomisations? https://devblogs.microsoft.com/directx/demystifying-full-screen-optimizations/ https://winaero.com/blog/disable-fullscreen-optimizations-windows-10/
  2. Does this ship work with v5? https://www.rikoooo.com/downloads/viewdownload/8/779
  3. Heh, you're funny... I especially liked the comment re: the 9 core Ryzen Cheers 😆
  4. You could certainly do the above, the video in my previous post was a 30 Hz vsync output, notice the frame rate counter in the bottom RH corner was maintaining 30 fps as a result of the vsync (P3D was set on unlimited). However you've mentioned your monitor is limited to 59 hz, remembering the frame rate output must also at least match the Hz rate for a vsync to occur. Meaning there is no point to limiting to 33-34 and applying vsync as a vsync cannot occur at 33-34 fps due to the 59 Hz rate of the monitor. There is the option of RTSS to induce a vsync at half the monitor refresh rate, and NVidia drivers have similar types of features, not sure if they work with P3Dv5 though. Taking vsync out of the equation, limiting to 33-34 fps is an option, some use P3D to limit the frame rate, others find the NVidia driver frame rate limiter to be effective. You'll need to trial such options and see if they suit. Using a UHD TV is also something many people run with. They can be relatively cheap compared to monitors and much larger, plus they support various Hz rates and stutter smoothing. You can also throw in GSync and FreeSync monitors which are designed to maintain a vsync in situations of variable frames rates, they usually don't sync down to the sort of low Hz rates needed for P3D but hey with the improved performance of P3D v5 they maybe a viable option. Cheers
  5. Everything is wrong with that statement. FSX does take advantage of multicores and has been since SP1, infact I applied an affinity mask to mine so as to have at least one core that FSX wasn't maxing out @ 100%. Gaming laptops will never beat a well built gaming desktop, there is simply not the space nor power and cooling capacity in a laptop. If there was to be then the laptop would be the size of a desktop... Not to say there is not some good laptops coming onto the market. Cheers
  6. Hi Chuck, There is no right or wrong persay where it comes to setting up for a particular monitor. The basic question would be can the GFX card/CPU display the chosen resolution at a suitable frame rate and if wanting vsyncing can the frame rate meet and exceed the Hz rate. So to vsync @ 59 Hz your P3D would need a frame rate of at least 59 FPS, plus an amount for overhead, e.g. say 10~20% e.g. 66~72 FPS. If your sim can consistantly achieve 66~72 FPS without any frame rate limiting or vsync it would be an ideal candidate for using vsync, which will make the sim fly really smoothly and also limit the frame rate to around 60 FPS to match the Hz rate. Clear as mud??? The Monitor I use is capable of dropping down to 23 Hz and I use a 30 Hz screen mode for P3D with the P3D limiter set to unlimited. A 30 Hz vsync means the frame rate will lock at 30 FPS and given 30 FPS is half of 60 (Hz & FPS), my GPU and CPU only have to work half as hard to keep the rate @ ~ 30 FPS (plus headroom allowance) for the vsync to work. Means I can ramp up the P3D settings as I've got plenty of overhead to spare and can "spend" some of the overhead on higher P3D settings. This video linked below shows a 30 hz vsync and how smooth it is. The vid is P3D v4.5, however the same rules apply to any version and indeed other software and games as well. Cheers :-)

  9. P3D powers this sort of sim https://melbourne.flightexperience.com.au/ It's possible MSFS won't be able to be used for this sort of professional system due to intellectual property licensing rights, which is the reason why ESP originally evolved into existance. Possibly the future might include such an option for MSFS, or LM will introduce their next gen, they've added DX12, they've added TrueSky, they've added Nvidia Water, so tick all those off the list. Licensing is the key word here, every time you add licensed content the cost goes up as those licesing fees have to be paid, usually on a per unit sold. Cheers
  10. The Winjeel is an old Australian Trainer and originaly seated 4, the idea being trainee and pilot pair flying and another trainee and pilot pair watching/learning. That was the idea at least, didn't last long as 4 seater because people don't really learn to fly by watching someone else fly. Ant's rendition of it is pretty good I think. Cheers
  11. I think once the "actual" release is out said dev crews will be able to test and confirm. Time is valuable and too expensive to spend qualifying complex software until there is an actual released to customer version to qualify against. Cheers
  12. Heh, have to agree there, all cooks, no chefs 🙂 My P3D config seems to manage expanding across cores pretty well. This pic is @ 30 FPs vsync'd and core use is pretty spreed. I guess it's all in the configuration. Cheers

    COVID-19 advice

Got toilet paper ??? There's none at my local supermarket and hasn't been for weeks, no paper products at all (tissues, nappies, hand towels etc.) Meat ran out, there was no bread, noodles, rice, pasta, spagetti sauce many many shelves completely empty and are still that way weeks later. Local pharmacy had to ration medicines and there is no hand sanitiser or face masks left anywhere local. Alothough went shopping today and some bread was back on the shelves. Cheers
  14. Woohoo, new PC build time is coming (end of year) and a new AMD Ryzen, motherboard with PCI 4 and NVidia 3000 series GFX sound like just what I want for Christmas 🙂
  15. I don't think the GTN 750/650 are a waste at all, I know I use mine all the time. Actually the F1 750 and 650 used to be separate purchases with a resulting cost increase, and i suppose selling competing products via the Flight1 "store" software reduces costs, increases competition and means F1 gets a slice of the pie no matter which one you buy, but then again they do have to manage the infrastructure overheads. Personally I took advantage of the F1 "Complete" edition and now I have both the 750 and 650 which I use for different types of aircraft e.g. 750 won't fit but the 650 does. I don't have the RXP release, however both the F1 and RXP are GTN 750's and both will use the Garmin Trainer software and its databases for their functionality. I suppose the difference is in philosophy and who was first to market (for P3D), probably the F1 units were first and are more widespread for pre-built installs in various aircraft. The F1 software does have an aircraft installer system that can place a link on the screen to open the unit for those aircraft where there is no dash option. It is also possible to modity the panel.cfg (minimally) so that the key that would open the default P3D GPS unit will instead open a GTN. It is also possible someone somewhere and build a completely modified panel.cfg where the GTN unit will fit in the dash. On this forum Bert Pieke is proably the most knowledgeable person I'm aware of with regards to Carenado aircraft and fitting GTN's into the dash. Send Bert a PM (Personal Messge), ask and maybe point him to this thread. There is also the offical F1 GTN forum which I think has a section for panel configs, you'll need to register for the forum though. Cheers Here area a few pics of the GTN in action, last one is a Carenado using the link on the top LH corner.
  16. I recall not so long ago Jim's annoucement of his diagnosis and the appearance of his picture on his posts. He posted almost up to the end. His dedication to AVSIM and the help he provided will be missed...RIP
  17. There will be one thread to rule them all !!! The Master Control Thread... MCT RULES !! Personally I'm hoping for two things. 1), Improved frame rates where Core0 is not maxed out (essentually when there is a ton of available CPU resources P3D is not utilising towards increasing the FPS). 2), The handling of 3D objects is way better because turning down scenery complexity in order to get the frame rate up means in a lot of cases there is not much to see what with the subsequent lack of custom buildings/objects and lack of décor (so to speak). v5 would have always been planned as DX12, what with Windows 10 being the current MS O/S for the masses now the previous masses OS (win7) has dropped by the wayside. Cheers
  18. Yep, those pesky cached shader files can make a mess of things. My first point of call when troubleshooting is to, 1), Delete the cached shader files. 2), Delete the scenery indexes. Both will automatically regenerate and help towards resolving such issues as per the below pic (was a shader issue). Cheers
  19. Yes, well... it is a know fact the Pyramids were landing pads of the Goa'uld alien ships. Goa'uld's - not the nicest of aliens. Cheers
  20. A series of pics from Orbx's new Africa LC scenery, this is the Giza Pyramids area and is a specific Point of Interest Orbx have included. A great improvement over the defaults on pretty much all areas of Africa. Cheers 🙂
  21. Very true and 60 Hz is way smoother than 30 Hz. But here's the thing... Modern TV's typically have a function and processor ability to take 24 Hz and output it at 60 Hz where movies filmed at 24 fps are given a very much smoother look, the same can apply for NTSC and PAL outputs of 29.97 Hz and 25 Hz respectively. I wonder if this is the effect being described? Usually you'll see the supersmooth motion effect in daytime soaps where the movement looks extremely fluid, almost too fluid like... I generally notice it in widescreen scenery pans within movies @ 24 fps, such as the Hateful 8, or Clint Eastwood spagetti westerns, where if you disable the effect the pans become noticably stuttery. I've not plugged in my computer to my TV (which is a 65" Samsung UHD), must give it a try and tune the picture to see what happens, 65" may just become my new 24" replacement :-) Cheers
  22. Complex planes and 3D objects tend to kill the fps in P3D (just as they do in FSX). However on a whole and with the same hardware P3D runs much better than FSX. e.g. no Out Of Memory crashes, DX11, Dynamic lighting, no 6% scenery loading hanging and a whole bunch more. That said many GFX operations have been pushed over to the GFX card meaning you would need a powerful GFX card, I run a 1070Ti overclocked to 2 Ghx and it is not enough to go beyound 4 SSAA, plus I reguarly top the card out at 100% and about 75% of its 8GB of ram meaning careful tuning is required, as once a GFX card maxs out frame rates drop like a brick. You could just buy P3D anyway, it's probably way cheaper than those planes you're going to have to re-purchase. That way you could try it out and decide to continue or not. Here are a couple of links to help you make up your own mind. This one is P3D and FSX-SE, with majority the same addins flying the same airport in the same plane on the same hardware. And here is a link to a tuned P3D describing what made it so. https://orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/188575-p3d-v45-maximum-detail-and-performance-tuning-test/ Hope it all helps... Cheers
  23. Hey thanks the tip! I just nipped over to SimMarket and bought it... Cheers
