  1. Quest 3 is a great option for MSFS. I agree with those who recommend Virtual Desktop to handle the connection. With its built in VDXR runtime, it's as close to plug and play as you will get but I would also recommend the free OpenXR Toolkit to fine-tune the experience. With your 3080Ti, you should get very acceptable visuals and performance. Run the headset at 72Hz and use SSW (motion reprojection) in Virtual Desktop to aim for 36fps or higher in MSFS which will translate to 72fps in the headset for a smooth experience. Run DLSS Quality or Balanced mode in MSFS and also use the Fixed Foveated Rendering (quality preset) option in Open XR Toolkit for an extra boost in performance. The main point of tweaking will be the override resolution in Open XR Toolkit which will let you increase the resolution (supersample) to get more detail in the VR image.
  2. That certainly doesn't sound right. Did you ensure you are running the latest chipset drivers? Are you monitoring the temps to check the heatsink and TIM are proper?
  3. Definitely a step in the right direction. Switch to inside out tracking and generic facial interface with adjustable IPD and I would be all over it. VR Flightsimguy has 3 or 4 videos up on it - here is his most recent...
  4. Yup, VD with the built in VDXR runtime and his OpenXR Toolkit is all I'm using. No other software needed (SteamVR or Oculus) to facilitate the VR session and it works really well.
  5. If you are running a lot of others apps in parallel with MSFS then I would say the 7900X3D, otherwise stick with the 7800X3D.
  6. It also has less 3D cache enabled cores which may or not be a restriction when MSFS 2024 comes along with potentially improved multicore support. It's one of the reasons why a lot of reviewers recommend either the 7800X3D or 7950X3D. All still great cpus in their own right though.
  7. Seems like the general consensus is this aircraft has a lot of potential but a few items needing addressed. From reading around, a few issues around sounds, initial state needing to be cold & dark, missing animations, VR cockpit position and checklist position to name a few that jump out to me.
  8. I had the 5800X3D previously, upgraded from the 5900X and saw a very noticeable improvement in frames. It's definitely a recommended upgrade if you are remaining on the AM4 platform, especially if going from the older 8 core 3800X. On the AMD side, the 5800X3D is really only second to the 7000 series X3D chips for MSFS.
  9. I tested that recently both on and off without any issues but as of now, I keep it enabled as I'm seeing slightly better fps.
  10. Not seeing that issue here. Connected over Wifi to Virtual Desktop? Which codec and bitrate are you using? What other software is running apart from MSFS and Virtual Desktop? Are you using any Oculus software or SteamVR? For reference, I'm only using MSFS, OpenXR Toolkit and Virtual Desktop using the VDXR runtime. This is over Wifi. No other software to facilitate the connection.
  11. I'm running a Noctua NH-U14S in a Phanteks Eclipse G500A case. This combination works fine for the 7800X3D along with a RTX4090. AIO or air are fine for this cpu, just select a good quality option of the one you prefer.
  12. Jump in now. I did get into VR around spring last year and it completely changed flight simming for me. Things aren't perfect but the drop in visual fidelity is more than made up for by immersion for me and as you say, things will only improve with new hardware. I just think at the moment, it's good enough to offer an excellent experience.
  13. Yup, Virpil and VKB user here and definitely great gear. If you are planning on using the stick on a desk without mounts then I would point you towards the VKB options as the Virpil equivalents sit a bit higher and are probably better suited to being mounted.
  14. Not all YT videos are the same, I get that but surely viewer discretion is advised. I glean what information I can get from each video, if I don't get something I need, I look elsewhere. Each video does for me, still have some merit such as what is included in the package, quality of modelling, textures, animation, sounds, any bugs they uncover etc. I wouldn't be taking one video as the gospel of what the aircraft offers or how it should be operated. Each to their own.
  15. Thanks for the feedback. There are plenty of aircraft in the sim that I can start up quickly but if tight for time, the choice between one I can start on the runway vs one that I need do any kind of start up procedure is pretty easy. Hopefully this gets addressed, I've not known another aircraft where starting up on the runway is not implemented in the sim.
  16. Quick question before I consider a purchase. Is it possible to start flight from the runway and operate successfully without issue even though the product page warns against this? This is a deal breaker for me for when I'm short on tie and want to dive into a quick flight.
  17. On the streamer app on your PC, does it still have your user name for the device under accounts? If that is missing, it will says the PC cannot be found in the headset.
  18. I have the 7800X3D and see temps around ~76c in VR. This is with a Noctua UH14S cooler in a Phanteks G500A case with 3 Noctua 15cm intakes and a single Noctua 15cm exhaust. I would definitely be looking at your thermal paste for one.
  19. As per the other thread. Go into Device Manager and disable the AMD GPU (built into the CPU) so only the RTX 4090 is available for use.

  21. Yup, Carenado version was converted and released on Flightsim.to a while back, looked great and flew well too but the cockpit was not operational from what I recall. That was someone doing a fairly quick, unsanctioned conversion so Carenado could have turned one around in a relatively short timeframe I would imagine.
