FS2Crew for Majestic Q400 and LINDA - Audio problems

Featured Replies

I wonder if anyone can help to resolve and issue that is occuring for those that use LINDA and the MCPII panel with the Q400 and also use FS2Crew.  The problem is that the audio stream from FS2Crew cuts out intermittently in this combination.  There is another user with the same setup that is having the same problem.  As far as I can see there are no audo volume assignments in my Linda file just the standard COMM setup.  Thread on this below, and any help appreciated.  thanks!

Hi Mark

Your are correct in you assume that LINDA does not have any audio functions and interfaces with the MCPII through a single COM Port.  It does have a few delays built in to ensure correct writing to the display but does not present a major load on the processor.  I use LINDA with SquawkBox and vPilot for communicating with VATSIM but I have not experienced any interference with the audio streams.  I don't use FS2Crew so I cannot help you further.

I have no issues with audio on Vatsim through FSInn or vPilot so this is specific to FS2Crew.

The FS2Crew developer thinks that LINDA or Majestic is interfering with the audio volume as it scans the Q400 for changes/updates.   Does this make sense and if so is there anything that can be done to correct this issue?

Hi Mark

I guess we can use fs2crew to give commands to FO but we will have to wait for an audio solution for the checklist feature.

Or just not use the MCPII when we fly the Majestic....not ideal but certainly something that can be done.   Just for your information I have sent a support request in to Majestic and also posted on the LINDA forums.  I think the problem for us is that there are so few people with this hardware there is not a lot of incentive for the developer(s) to fix it.

I have some feedback from Bryan at FS2Crew -  Please see below, hopefully you can help.  thanks.

For some strange reason, Linda or your MCP is forcing this variable to 0:

L:RADIO1_SERV_INT_KNOB

That variable reads the position of the Service Interphone Knob.

If that knob goes to 0, the FS2Crew volume will deliberately go to 0, because when that button is pushed in it simulates the 'mute' position.

Does Linda or your MCP has the power to "exclude" writing/reading to certain variables, namely, this one:

L:RADIO1_SERV_INT_KNOB

I was able to get the SDK from Majestic and sent it to Scot but I have not heard back.  I assume he has not had time to investigate the source of the problem.

Thanks for letting us know. Fingers crossed he finds the time to have a look into this problem.

Sorry chaps. But as you may have noticed, I have not had much time to monitor the LINDA forums. I am finishing off a very busy wedding season and won't have time to do anything before October.  Although I have FS2Crew for Airbus, I don't have it for the Q400.

As a workaround, I wonder if it would work to set L:RADIO1_SERV_INT_KNOB to a non-zero value in the Q400 LINDA module at start up.  Or, failing that, setting it periodically with a timer.  I don't have FS2Crew for the Q400 so I couldn't test.  Perhaps, in the Init function, just put in

ipc.writeLVar("L:RADIO1_SERV_INT_KNOB", 50)

in the InitVars() function as a test (you'd have to find out what the valid range is for that variable...could be 0-100 or, perhaps, 0-1 or something else.  A more simple test would be, after the Q400 loads, go to the LINDA Tracer, find that variable in the left hand list and set it to see if it clears the problem.
