-Smooth flight. 20 fps is never, ever smooth. Console shooters that run at 30fps are not smooth. We don't need that level of performance, but the game needs to be much smoother (and scalable for different hardware). FS2004 is still not smooth on hardware that was built years after it was released. -Weather - weather has to be dangerous, not just look nice. Flying into a t-storm in a Cessna 172 has to be extremely risky. This has been the biggest thing missing from most flightsims. Icing, thunderstorms, turbulence, downdrafts, etc. Flying should be a challenge (optional of course). -A simple to use GUI terrain and scenery editor. Does mesh put your hometown airport on a plateau? There should be a simple point and click way to fix it. Tower on the wrong end of the field? Click and drag. A stream flowing under the runway? Point and click. -Sloped runway support.-Improved flight dynamics-Better ATC

-----------------------------kerosene- 20 fps is just as smooth as 40+ on my 6 yr old system! (AMD 1.8 XP2200, 2-GeForce FX 5200 vid cds)Secret is triple monitors - triple integrated views. Since there is only one CPU- only one of the three views is being updated at any moment. The other two always have zero FPS or- if you wish, a frame rate of infinity. The eye/brain sees a composite of the three- very smooth! How smooth? With triple views, indicated FPS ranges from 15-25. Suddenly delete views L&RFwd and FPS jumps to 30 -50. But the smoothness & fluidity is exactly the same as with 3 views!Alex Reid

A light bulb light up at almost 5 in the morning. It would be a good idea to have taxiway/gate signs on the ground just like in real life at most international airports. Maybe all international airports should have them??

That's a nice setup, but I wouldn't have the desktop space for it. You seem to be flying the heavies, which means you don't need as high an FPS. With light aircraft on my 23" widescreen, you really see how clunky the sim is. Don't want to start the FPS argument. (please anyone out there don't bring up the movie example... apples and oranges)Some people are fine with it, but for me it is far from smooth. Very few gauges are smooth, and the sim has never been smooth for as long as I can remember. 5 years+ later and many are still tweaking fs2004 to run smoothly.

-------------------------kerosene- desktop space is 44"W x 26"D (plus 7" yoke overhang on the front). Total depth including office style chair with sub woofer bolted to bottom is 65". The whole thing is located behind the door in the Master BR of our condo!! (She got the den for a sewing room!)All I can do is invite you to come to Vancouver Island and try it out. 20 fps on triple views is just as smooth as 40 fps single view! (My FS9 display settings range from mid to max with AI low.) There is something quite remarkable in the smoothing effect of the sequential multi view updating process. Very similar effect I think, to the old Cinerama triple cam motion picture process. Or today's IMAX?I now rarely fly the heavies any more- low and slow is more interesting with the 147

I was talking to Chock in the screenshot forum and he gave me an idea i have to put in here:Pejector seats!its been done in games before and shouldnt be too hard to model.

Ejector seats like the character gets fired out of the plane or just a model of the switch and triggers you need to operate it?Here are a few more ideas:
  • Since I asked if there could be window icing, it would be nice to see ice build up on the windows if its cold enough and there is freezing rain or snow
  • Just thought of this, it would be nice to see a aircraft load sheet in the kneeboard that shows you the Zero Fuel Weight Center Gravity (ZFW CG), Center of Gravity, (CG), Fuel Load, Gross Weight, Passengers onboard, Cargo Weight, which brings up...
  • When changing fuel loads have an option such as "Would you like an immediate or realistic refuel?" in which the immediate option immediately loads the aircraft with fuel, and the realistic option brings up a fuel truck and wait for the aircraft to refuel
  • Make some of the dialogs for FSX noninterruptible. For example if I ask for a fuel truck it would be cool to get a semitransparent window that asks you how much fuel you want, so the game doesn't pause, or if your using gamespy have a little dialog box slide in while flying that asks if you would like to accept or refuse, that way it doesn't pause the game, it also gets annoying because if you leave your PC for a few minutes and get a request in FSX, it interrupts your flight and you are behind where you were supposed to be.
  • Back to weather, allow precipitation to be on the aircraft, like in PGR4, where there are real 3D water droplets on the aircraft, maybe even static droplets because it would be easy.
  • Allow developers to be able to set some kind of icing area where there is a potential risk of ice building up in/on the area and you can visually see depending on what kind of ice it is
  • I know it may be impossible to have snow accumulate on the ground of airports, but it would be awesome to have snow accumulate on the aircraft if its been sitting on the ground for a while (like pre-deperture)
  • Kerosene has a good idea there with making weather risky.
  • More 3D! I want to see 3D contrails, with particles and not 2D images packed together. A good example of these are the REX contrails they offer for free on their website. They are spectacular and you can tell the used particles instead of 3D images.
  • When the weather is right, allow condensation on the wings, when there is rain allow water to blow out of the engine during reverse thrust, and allow the thrust to kick up water in wet conditions.

like the character explodes out of the plane shoots up 30 feet and pulls out a parachute attatched to his chair ejector seat heheseriosly how cool would it be if u have engines die in the middle of nowhere no airport in site and you pull a last minute button and your pilot shoots out, with choice of either a first person view, a general view of the person, or watching the plane spiral down and explode into the bush as the pilot drifts to safteyand Im talking realism, no ejector seats in a heavy or anything just in military jets and the like.

Almost forgot, it would be nice to have:

  • A semi transparent window that calculates the v-speeds based on your load.
  • When there is precipitation it would nice to make the runway and taxiways slippery if you are not carefuel, for exp. if it is raining, there should be a possibility that the plane can hydroplane on ladning, or if there is snow or ice, how you use the brakes (autobrakes) (max foot brakes) should determine if the tires will lose traction

Sry, I meant snow accumulating like snow builds up as there is precipitation going up to a certain depth (in feet)

Well I'll be darned! Following the setup for that snowstorm screenshot above, I took off for a short circuit. Crappy visibility in the snow but managed to keep VFR on the circuit back to YYJ R27. Then bad news. As I lined up, speedo dropped to zero!!But maintaining "professional calm", I checked the switch panel to observe PITO HEAT- OFF. Flicked it on and low and behold about 30 seconds later airspeed once again indicating!!!!I didn't know the FS9 Pitot Heat actually worked- did you? Another vote for FS9! Or should that be for DreamFleet Bonanza? Or both.Alex Reid

Yup, I didn't know it was in FS9, but I know its in FSX by default with a whole slew of other features.

If they just took the best of all the 3rd party add ons, like they did in FSX with Active Camera, most everyone would be pleased. Such as Radar Contact to improve ATC, REX to improve the environment, WOAI, Fly Tampa airport scenery and ActiveSky for a weather engine. Can you think of any others? I'm sure there is an excellent flight planner, FMC, etc. We should have a user vote on the best 3rd party add ons to integrate on the next FSv. That should be a whole new thread, huh? Then if they made it all run smoothly, at least 24fps on any reasonable equipped computer, no hiccups, no scenery dropout, no frame loss, no CTD's, etc. Then if they could, as someone mentioned earlier in this thread, have realistic lighting levels on cloudy and sunny days, below the deck and above the deck. How cool would that be?
