What is a technet subscription and how is it better?

:( These guys in MS are getting sicker and bolder as in nuts.:( If one buys the home edition the following can only be obtained with the upper editions: "Run many existing Windows XP productivity applications in Windows XP Mode. 2" Someone just got to be ... kiding me!!! And what's with the 2???This will slow down the migration you silly tweeds (MS)!!! I can hear the people saying: No, I CAN'T use my favorite program in Win 7!!!Who are the geniuses in the MS Marketing Department??? Don't tell me. The same ones that cancel (or almost cancel) FS11 for good. Oh, I see now. Just pure geniuses.Lord,MAB:mad:UPROAR PEOPLE!!!

You are completely misunderstanding what "WinXP Compatibility Mode" is for...It is only required for running ancient programs from before WinXP...As it happens though, there have been reports of programs designed for Win95 having been installed and successfully run even without the need for having the "WinXP Compatibility Mode" installed. If you don't know what you're talking about; please don't... :(

And if you do not know how to explain it, just do not show up. :( Hearing this or that does not count for knowledge. :( B) MAB

Actually, I did "explain it." It's not all that difficult, after all.XP Mode consists of the Virtual PC-based virtual environment and a fully licensed copy of Windows XP with Service Pack 3 (SP3). It will be made available, for free, to users of Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise, and Ultimate editions via a download from the Microsoft web site. (That is, it will not be included in the box with Windows 7, but is considered an out-of-band update, like Windows Live Essentials.) XPM works much like today's Virtual PC products, but with one important exception: As with the enterprise-based MED-V (Microsoft Enterprise Desktop Virtualization) product, XPM does not require you to run the virtual environment as a separate Windows desktop. Instead, as you install applications inside the virtual XP environment, they are published to the host (Windows 7) OS as well. (With shortcuts placed in the Start Menu.) That way, users can run Windows XP-based applications (like IE 6) alongside Windows 7 applications under a single desktop. Now within WinXP itself, is it's legacy compatibility mode. The legacy WinXP Compatibility Mode has one purpose. It will allow software (even 16bit) written for Win95, Win98, Win2k, and WinNT to be installed and run. See? It really isn't that complicated... :( Not having this in the Win7 Home edition by default isn't such a big deal, as most folks would never need it anyway.

Can you get all three versions in 64bit? If not, which version is 64bit? After way too many OOM errors with FS9/XP 32bit, when I get my new puter, it will have W7 64bit for sure!

I would say YES. I don't think the installer software (or license terms) look at the "flavor" of Vista you have, only that you are running "Vista"(period). -Greg

Are you 6 years old? He provided detailed information about the products. All you did was attack his character like a child. Grow up.
