Stephen,You're welcome. I'm not the one who recommended the file download (MadDog did), but I'm glad everything is working for you now.To add to Andy's reply above, the Precision Mode just "slows down" the panning of the scene vs. the amount of head movement you make. Actually, it "smooths it out" also...eliminates jerks and lurches from small head movements. It was originally included with the TIR for "combat flying" and tracking an enemy aircraft during dogfights, etc. You could actually make your own custom "precision mode" by creating a new profile and changing the settings for the 6 axis of movement in TIR. You could, for instance, have a profile that "moves fast" left and right, but "moves slow(er)" up and down, forward and back, etc. With my TH2G and the wide FOV I have with it already, I created a new profile that slowed down the left and right panning when moving my head, but left the other 4 axis at normal rate. That works great for me. Play around with the profile creator and see what happens. You may stumble across something that you really like. As long as you save any original profiles you have, you can always go back to them.I also have different profiles for different aircraft. Some aircraft with "huge" panels (PMDG, Level D, etc) have a lot of things that aren't on the monitor to start with. I have a slightly "higher speed" for movement on these panels in the direction (axis) of where I need to look a lot when flying with them.Rick

Wow, Very cool. This is going to take some getting used to. Making me neck hurt....LOL. Any suggestions to help me get used to it would be nice!Gary
Just to reinforce what others have said: Just use it. :( I also got a bit frustrated at first, and made the mistake of adding all kinds of 'dead zones' to control the movement. That was a mistake. What I really needed was to simply get used to it...as said above, now it is just second nature, and I can no longer fly FS without it.Mapping the commands is a very good idea. I use voice recognition, so I can say 'center' to realign the unit, 'head' to pause, and 'precision' to switch on the precision mode. I never use 'precision' anymore, as it actually is too slow for me now (after I got used to it). In fact, it irritates me when I accidentally enter that mode. You will learn to use small head movements, unlike using FS without it when you would simply throw your head around during flight. Those 'neck aches' will go away soon enough, you are simply over concentrating' on keeping your head too still. Give it time, you'll be singing it's praises soon enough. :(

I agree. At first you'll have trouble separating head movement from aircraft movement. You'll land on the grass a few times and feel weird. After a while you'll forget you're wearing it and your head will be a part of the sim. Going back to 2D will be like having your head in a plaster cast.

OK I am starting to get used to it. I have put two fo the button on the joystick/yoke. (center+pause) is there a way to turn the movement that FSX creates OFF? Like when you slow down or accelerate? this seems to make TrackIR weird.Gary

I don't believe you have to Gary, when using TrackIR, as far as I know, it does not use the FSX internal 'movement' when in use. Perhaps you are still getting used to it :( Seriously, it probably took me a couple weeks total to feel absolutely comfortable.

ok. I really like it in the L-39 and the F-16. I am also getting used to it in the Duke. In the lvld767? Well I need more time.... Any idea how to get the forward and back better adjusted. I seem to tilt more then move.Gary

Gary,Just to be safe, go to your FSX.CFG file and in the section below, change all the values to "Zero" as shown. That will stop FSX from moving the panel around on you when you accelerate, decelerate, apply brakes, etc:[DynamicHeadMovement]LonAccelOnHeadLon=-0.000000LonAccelOnHeadPitch=-0.000000RollAccelOnHeadLat=0.000000YawAccelOnHeadLat=-0.000000RollAccelOnHeadRoll=0.000000MaxHeadAngle=0.000000MaxHeadOffset=0.000000HeadMoveTimeConstant=0.000000As for the "tilt more than move" with the LD767, that happens because of your initial frame of reference to the panel. The LD767 (and PMDG aircraft) start you out so darn close to the panel you can hardly see any of it to begin with. You are sitting almost on top of it in the Virtual Cockpit. So when you "look down" with the TrackIR, you appear to "tilt" more than "look down". What I do is after loading the aircraft, I manually move the panel farther away from me first to bring more of it into view. Use the "Eyepoint Back" keys in FSX to do this...NOT the main "zoom" key...to move the panel only. You can only move it so far before you will find your view blocked by the pilot's seat, but you can get a lot more of the panel into view this way. After that, when looking down with the TrackIR, you will feel more like you are looking down than "tilting". Note that if you move the panel too far away, you will lose some of the "mouse click" spots on it. But that really isn't a problem. You can simply "lean forward" with the TrackIR, the panel comes closer to you again, and the "mouse click" points work again.EDIT: You could also do the same thing using the TrackIR "Center" key combo (or button on your joystick\yoke if you mapped it there). After the panel loads, move your HEAD closer to the screen...the panel will disappear BEHIND you. Then click the "Center" button, and move your head BACK to where you normally sit. The panel will now appear farther away from you, with more of it in view. Experiment until you get it where you want it in your "normal sitting position" at your computer.Try it. I think you'll like it.Rick

This thread is funny, particularly because ti expresses exactly the sentiments when I got mine a week ago. I started out being frustrated because the thing tracked not only the hat clip, but also surrounding areas. A quick look in the manual provided the answer: adjusted the light filtering, and the problem was gone. From that point on, it has been fun, although I havn;'t much used it. With all the OS installing, reinstalling, installing of FS, I didn't do much flying.

Hm, strange, seems almost like some of you are talking about another device... I have the TrackIR Pro 4 with the Track Clip Pro and the TIR version 5 software. I never ever have the idea I have to keep my head still. It feels just like in real life. When I move a little in my chair, the view moves a little to, but just like it would in real life. I never use the Precision button. I hardly ever use the Pause button too: only when I am zoomed in a lot (by bending forwards) and have to adjust the MCDU on the MD-11 or something like that and the weather is really bad. But other than that... I never use any buttons apart from the Center one (although I hardly have to use that one either with version 5). I simply have the feeling I am THERE...! Looking around feels very natural.I do have some settings rather different than default, though...! Specially Smooth (on the main window of the version 5 software, under Motion control): I have that all the way to the right at 100! Speed is at 1.2. Light filter threshold (on the camera tab) is at 230 (can't remember if that's default or not: I thought not). Remember that other lights can influence the TrackIR! At certain moments of the day I have the sun shining on the wall behind my computer, and that really makes a difference! Also make sure you enable the TrackClip Pro when you have one and not the older TrackClip! But all you guys with twitchy views who have the feeling they have to sit still all the time... you must be doing something wrong! Try Smooth at 100 for starters! (And o yes, I simply used the Smooth profile and adjusted the hotkeys, that's all.)Hope this helps a little because this device is really awesome: I absolutely refuse to fly without it!

J van E,LOL! Yeah, I here ya. Depends on how much you like to "move around". In my case, I have a 62" HDTV in my computer room. It's located 90-degrees to the left of my computer against the other wall in the room. Sometimes when I'm flying FSX, I have it on and will be watching a TV show on it too. In those cases, I hit the "Pause" button on the TrackIR 'cos I'll "kick back" in my reclining computer chair and turn my head back and forth a lot between the TV and the computer. If I'm "totally involved" in FSX though, like flying in a pattern, I don't use the "Pause" button much then. Rick

I have been using the Track IR4 for well over a year with just the hat clip with good results, but I could only use it at night due to interference from light through windows etc. Upgraded to the version 5 software and have speed set at 1, Smooth at 100 and light filtering at 140 and now I can use it anytime of day. Much improved light filtering on the version 5 software so anyone who hasn't upgraded should give it a try. Make sure your Track IR is unplugged from your PC while installing the software.Regards Martin

Yes, the new software is a must have for Track IR 4 owners. A huge difference in my case is that I hardly have to press the center button anymore. With the version 4 software I had to press it almost everytime after making slightly bigger or unusual movements (looking underneath things, or straight down out of the window). But with version 5 the Track IR stays centered, no matter how big or unusual my moves are: as soon as I am back in my normal position, the view is as it should be!

hey, im new.. lets kick of with a big post/reply :( i got the trackir5 witch i'd ilke to use for FSX or Race and War sims like ARMA2.it seems to me that it is a good piece of kit .the only problem is that the software is not working on my system..I run a Vista Ultimate 64bit edition, installing the software (v5.0) is no problem. But when i start the program it crashes with the most anoing message ever; TrackIR stopped working!(im like ;well duh!) theres no clue left for me y.. i tryed to reinstall, set the compatibility to Nt4.0 as suggested on the forum @ naturalpoint.. here and there i find people with the same problem but no solutions..when you look at the info of the driver 5.04b you can see that it states: known issues: crash on startup, well i guess 5.05b did not solvethat problem, and as you might know version 4 is no option for trackir5 hardware, it just wont work..does someone has any ideas , im starting to go crosseye from the search :(

found the solution myself.. :( rightclick "TrackIR5" shortcut>click Properties> click the Tab "Compatibility"> check the box "disable desktop composition".*Crash at Launch Problem solved* :(

I am using IR 4 with the version 5 software and I am having a little problem with YAW. I can turn my head to right and my view turns right, but I cannot turn to the left! It's as if the view gets stuck! When I check the "invert" box I get the opposite; I can turn to the left, but the right view gets stuck. Is there another setting that I am missing for YAW? I also use pitch, X and Y, but no roll. They appear to work OK.Thanks for any help!Airbus
